Depends who is pouring! In a restaurant or bar, yes. At home.....whole OTHER story - LOL!
-
dalwash - have you tried Meloxicam? It's one of the prescription anti-inflammatories on the "acceptable" list from my doctor. It works great that type of pain. It's not for a headache, but for joint & skeletal pain, it works wonders (for me).

Yeah, MORE than wine I've been away from drinking (for the most part) for so long now, I don't really miss it that much. When it comes to wine, the problem is.....I don't want just ONE glass. I want two or three. So it's best to not even get started. The OTHER thing is, when I drink, I eat. It's just not good (for me) during the weight loss phase. I did have a couple of days where I drank, and I completely over did it. So....now, I just stay away (for the time being). I've never been a daily drinker, but when I do drink, I'm good for 2-3. And with that comes all the finger foods. Yep...not great for mrsinto

I'm getting this strong pressure
mrsto replied to starqueen714's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm guessing that it's gas from surgery, but you should run it by your doctor. The gas plays havoc, and it's the left side (shoulder) that's typically affected. -
Yeah, I'm with Mis. Stay away from it! Just reading all the caffeine in it, I'm already having palpitations. I found this link with a bunch of info... http://wikidisease.org/ace-diet-pills/

Help! Has Anyone Had Bad Breath From Protein Shakes?
mrsto replied to ADDrienne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Early in my WLS venture, I did notice a body odor coming off of me. My husband never said anything, but I could tell. I thought it was odd, because I wasn't eating anything. It's probably due to what is mentioned above; ketosis. I don't remember bad breath specifically, but I did notice a change. It only lasted a short while, and I'm back to my beautiful smelling self -
TMF - I'm still unclear about restriction. I'm scheduled for a 3rd fill this week, but I only want 1/4cc. I've been doing well from the last fill about 2 months ago, but find I'm getting hungry about 2 hours after meals. The band does seem to signal me when to stop eating, but I'm not staying full. I'm afraid of overshooting, at the same time, am frustrated with the (apparent) hunger shortly after eating.

This is my own opinion too, but I think that everyone needs some carbs. As Mis said, only good carbs, but.....carbs! Protein has always been the most of what I eat, but I do add a small amount of quinoa, 100% whole grain bread, yams, beans, etc. Beanie - you're lucky that exercise isn't a chore for you. Given how much you do, I imagine that with the dietary adjustments, the weight is going to start melting off. PS: The nutritionist at my doctor's office ALSO (appears to) never have had an extra pound on her. Same with the nurse who I do some of my follow ups with. Sometimes, when I talk with the nurse about different issues, I don't think that she understands quite the way someone who's been through it would. Just my feeling.... But as long as she knows what she's doing, I'm good :-)
-
Tara - yes, everyone's body is so different, and responds to different things. I've done very well on Synthroid, though there are doctors who swear by the others. Up until a year ago, I never noticed any issues with my dose whatsoever. Which is odd for me, because I'm ultra sensitive to all meds. I guess is was a perfect balance.....until a year ago. I'll try & remember to post the outcome, too.

Both of my fills were done by the nurse, and I wasn't anesthetized for either. Actually, I've never heard of it. She just plunks the needle right in, and it's over. Wouldn't anesthetizing the skin be TWO needles? Kind of doesn't make sense in this particular procedure.

When was your surgery? How many fills have you had? For many, it takes several fills to find "the spot".

On full liquids, I ate no sugar added Fudgsicles. They were creamier than sugar free Popsicles (which also helped), and got me through some rough times. When I got sick of all the sweet Protein drinks, popsicles, etc., I would put unflavored Protein powder in some V-8 juice. Was really good, and helped to switch gears from all that disgusting sweetness (never thought I'd hear myself say that I was sick of anything sweet!). But it did happen on my two weeks of post-op liquids. Congrats on your upcoming surgery! The pre & post op diet is the most difficult part of the journey, but so worth it. As hard as it was, in the big scheme of things......looking back, it was a mere drop in the bucket. Good luck!

Cute, TMF. What kind do you have?? I have an innie

It is officially my 1 year ban-anniversary! YEA!
mrsto replied to Over Stuffed!'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats! 55 pounds is a lot of weight, and I know how good you must feel! You've got a great attitude about your journey, which will bring you long term success. Slow & steady wins the race (as they say) -
Tara - did you doctor ever try another type of thyroid med on you? There are a couple of others that a lot of people do very well on; Nature-Throid and Armour. I think there is another one too, but these are a combo of T3 and T4. I didn't do well on either one, but a lot of people who couldn't find a good balance with Synthroid, do much better on the combo. Based on what you're saying, I'll be interested to hear the result of my lab work. I still have a bottle of .088 mcg, and would love to go back down. I'm glad to hear that you're doing much better. And congrats on the 60 pounds! I know you feel GREAT!
-
Beth - was your dose adjusted after surgery because your numbers were off? I was on .088 mcg for over 20 years. Then about a year ago, I was cold all the time, and my hair was thinning. I was also lethargic. My doc checked my blood and I needed to go up; now on 100 mcg. I've been doing great on that dose, and it resolved all of my (thyroid related) issues. I can't imagine why all of a sudden it would need to go back down to .088, but I'll know next week. I also just went back on Vivelle (estrogen patch), so maybe it's related to that? Our bodies are like little chemistry labs! When I was diagnosed with Hashimotos back in 1988, the doctor at the time started me on such a high dose (high for me). He was such a jerk; said it was the standard dose to begin.....something like 150 mcg. I complained that I was jittery and didn't feel good, and he told me it was all in my head. Can you imagine?!! I was so out of there! Next doc checked my blood & lowered the dose to .088....which was perfect for a LONG time.

If you're doing everything you're supposed to be doing (sounds like you are), then the weight WILL come off. Just hang in there. Though it's not showing up on the scale (yet), your body IS losing. One day you'll step on and be pleasantly surprised.... I don't know how often you weigh yourself, but if you're on the scale daily, my suggestion is to stop doing it. Try and focus more on the way you feel, and do the scale once every week or two. Good luck - you WILL get there

I have a friend who is VERY thin and fit. However, her mother and her brother are morbidly obese. She was so afraid of becoming fat, that she turned it around the other way; watches everything she eats, exercises daily, etc. She has the propensity for obesity, and she knows it. With that, her choice has always been to avoid it at all costs.
-
Mis - I think you're right on with this. Unless someone is 14 years old! Okay, time to pick up the hand weights. I've been dragging my ass on this, knowing well and good that I'll have major flappers if I don't do it. When I lost weight last time, my arms were in great shape. But I started with the weights at the same time I started losing weight. Ugh......I've gotten so la-Z
-
Thanks for the response. I looked on the internet last night, and you can go nuts; too much varied information. I just came back from the lab, and should have the results next week. Carole, I was also on the same dose for over 20 years, until it had to be increased about a year ago. I've been doing great, but felt tremors over the last few days. It could be totally unrelated. I suspect, with Hashimotos disease, that over time the Synthroid will increase instead of decrease.

Tamirn - thank you for this post. I think it strikes a chord with so many of us, as we deal with such a tremendous life change.
-
I think that when we are happy with ourselves, we glow. That's what we project in the world, and that's what comes back. I've seen this dynamic numerous times with myself; fat OR thin. If I'm in a dark place, people respond negatively. If I'm happy go lucky, they respond to that.

Last time I lost close to 100 pounds, I'd walk by Lane Bryant in my size 6 jeans, and actually mourn the loss of the old me. I didn't miss it, but I was very confused by the change. Years ago, one of the many shrinks I saw, told me that being/staying fat serves us in some way. For some, it's a sense of protection; like a wall that keeps danger away (whatever form that comes in). There are many dynamics that go along with obesity, but to some degree, it rang true. I used to think (and still do sometimes), what will I do without "it". I can't quite define in words what I mean, but it almost feels like I'll be completely exposed. Weird. SO much psychology with body image!!!

Here I Go Again-Band Replacement
mrsto replied to FinAndFun73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was the band causing sinus issues? If yes, how? I'm very interested to know. -
PS to my above post..... When it comes to people treating other people unkind, simply because they are heavy (as mentioned in Missy's post), THAT I don't get, period! To treat someone like they are invisible or worthless, because they are heavy, is despicable. I understand not wanting to date someone if you're not attracted to weight, but outside of that......it sickens me. Okay - I'm done :-)
