  1. My toes were painted......red. But they gave me socks with non-skid strips on the bottom, which stayed on during surgery. They were cute.....had bears on them
  2. I love the Fage Greek Yogurt with fruit (fruit is a separate attached cup). I don't count anything but calories, and these have been a great snack; high in protein, sweet tooth satisfied, etc.

    do vitamins really help?

I'm not a big fan of taking supplements, either. However, since surgery I've been diligent keeping up with my daily vitamin regime. I eat so much less than before surgery, and the level of whole grains, fruit and veggies has greatly diminished. Also, calcium can be an issue with this surgery. I take a multivitamin, calcium, D3, fish oil, sublingual B12, and biotin for my hair. I suggest you talk with your doctor's office to help find something you can stomach. To be quite honest, after I'm done with these bariatric chewables, I'm going back to the capsule form multivitamin I took pre-band. I do not have any issues with things going down, and I'm with you on the chewable part.......I don't care for them. But highly suggest that you don't stop. You don't want to compromise your health while losing weight.

    Tailbone pain

When I lost 90 pounds last time around, I had terrible tailbone issues. Working at a desk all day, it became a big problem. I'd been to the chiropractor ongoing, and ended up seeing an orthopedic doctor. Apparently, it's the way my tailbone (coccyx) is shaped. I ended up having an epidural (nerve block) to stop the pain. The shot lasted for a couple of months, but it became a chronic issue. When I gained all the weight back, the pain went away. Enough padding to buffer it! Now that the weight is coming off again, I'm starting to feel the tailbone pain. Ugh....

    mediterranean diet

I would run this by your bariatric surgeon, or the nutritionist at his/her office. Your cardiologist may not be aware of the necessary nutritional requirements of bariatric patients. It's a different world......one that I've found other types of doctors aren't necessarily up on.

    mediterranean diet

Depending on where you're at in your post-op diet progression, you can do that diet. You just have to try certain things and see how they go down. Just make sure that you get your recommended amount of daily protein, and watch your fats. That diet allows "plenty of" olive oil and nuts. Those of us who struggle with obesity, need to be wary of the term "plenty of". Make sure to track your calories, so you make sure you continue down a road of steady weight loss.

    A few days later

In a relatively short time, this part of the journey will be behind you. Did they send you home with a spirometer to blow into several times a day?

    Listen to your body.

I promise you.......it WILL get better. It took me a longer time than I expected, too. I thought the whole surgery would pretty much be a slam dunk, and it was quite the opposite. Everyone responds differently, and as your post header says......"listen to your body" It took a good month before I started to feel back to my old self.....minus the eating, of course

    Breakfast

Breakfast has never been my favorite meal, unless we go out. Even so, before the band, I would always eat some eggs, a slice of toast and a piece of fruit. I'm one who MUST have dense protein in the morning, or else my blood sugar plays havoc with me for the rest of the day. That being said, since surgery, sometimes all I can stomach in the morning is a protein shake. I cannot blend fruit into it, because it adds too much sugar & I have a rapid drop within and hour or two. The only protein shake I ended up keeping around, is the ready made chocolate Premiere Protein. On days where I'm able to stomach solid food, I'll have one egg with a slice of melted cheese, or 1/2 of a chicken apple sausage with an egg.

    Help

I agree. I think it's a mistake to leave portion size up to the band. I white knuckled it (many of us did) through bandster hell, and continued to lose until I started having fills. It's important to work WITH the band, and try to change eating behaviors in the process.

    sweet tooth?

There are some excellent protein bars out there. Those do it for me every time I like different ones, but Atkins has some that taste exactly like some candy bars on the shelves. But they do not have the sugar and carbs of candy, and they don't spike blood sugar. I feel like I'm doing something bad when eating one.....they're THAT good

    Post op pain

I work from home, too, and didn't really giddy up for any big projects until a good week passed. I had my gallbladder taken out at the same time, along with a hernia repair. It took a good month before I felt back to "myself", but I was able to sit at my desk and stay on top of time sensitive things within the first week. The second week was better, and so on.

    What Mushies Are You Eating?

I wasn't allowed meat during the mushy phase, either. I had a lot of refried Beans with melted cheese, cottage cheese, and baked potato with melted cheese. I ate other things too, but can't think of what they were......at the moment

    What Mushies Are You Eating?

Refried beans with melted cheese was a staple for me during that time. I still love it, but now I make a concoction of ground beef or turkey, refried beans, black beans and onions. Sometimes I'll melt some cheese into it, too.

    advice needed: getting rings resized

I would wait.... I'm in the same boat right now. I'm down 54 pounds, and yesterday, practically shook my wedding rings off my hand. Somedays they're looser than others, but I'm going to wait.......for the exact reason Missy stated. On another "happy" note..... My bras are too big, too! But the ones I wear are expensive, so I'm waiting to drop my last 21 pounds. I may buy them a bit sooner than that, but I want to be close enough so I don't have to buy them two more times Good problems to have, huh??

    Night Cough

You should talk with your doctor, but my feeling is, if the cough is a flu symptom, it would happen while you're in the upright position as well. I certainly know the reflux cough.....it's no fun. Definitely talk with your doctor. If this continues, you may need a slight un-fill. If you didn't have reflux prior to the fill, you may be a little too tight.

I'm also having an issue with being cold. It's like.....the cold makes my skin hurt!

    V8 juice?

I agree with the above posters.......ask your doctor. How this worked for me.....I was allowed V-8 juice during my pre-op diet, but not immediately post-op. The reason being, that tomatoes have a lot of acid, and they didn't want me to have it right away. I don't remember when I was able to add back acidic fruits & veggies, but they were allowed...eventually.

    I did not need WLS...

I've had little hints of this from one of my sisters. Not in a negative way, but when I tell her how many pounds down I am, she says "I want surgery". But she says it in a way that the surgery does all the work. I continually tell her that I do ALL the work, and the band in no way is a free ride.....just a tool to control hunger. My BFF, who has been 100% supportive (never had a weight issue), asked if I will have the surgery reversed once I'm at goal (band removed, plication undone). I tell her, no, unless there are complications, this surgery is for life. I think that people who never struggled with obesity, have zero clue about the addiction. The addiction that never really goes away. What I have a VERY hard time understanding, is the negative comments coming from the obese who struggle daily. I have to believe that those comments come from fear and jealousy. Also, a complete lack of understanding of what the surgery does, and how it works. For me, I'm at a place in my life where I don't give a rat's ass what anyone thinks. I don't discuss it openly, because I don't have the energy to educate every person who drops a negative comment. I'm happy with myself, and that's what I carry with me on a daily basis.
  21. FAB! Good job.....I know you feel GREAT
  22. Bandista - I'm with you on this. I have friended a couple of people from here on FB, but there is zero talk about the band, weight loss.....any of it. If there is any talk about it, it's a private message. I'm very private about this journey, and the only place I discuss anything about it, is here on LBT.
