I've been having a lot of pain issues lately. Nothing band related, but spinal/neck issues. Because I'm so afraid to take Advil, I've been hitting the leftover bottle of Lortab from my LB surgery. When I take that, or Percocet, or Xanax for anxiety, I notice that I get a bit sloppy with my eating. I think the narcotic/sedating meds bring down our defenses. Maybe that is some of what was going on with you? Also, somehow......when we've gone through such physical trauma, it's easy to go to those comfort types of foods. Ya know.....the kind our moms gave us when we were sick as kids. Old habits DO die hard!

Whats the earliest you can drink alcohol?
mrsto replied to melanndoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard you say this in various posts. But it still seems to go against what most of us were told. Believe me, I enjoy a few drinks on occasion. And as much as I love beer, I haven't touched it since surgery.....and I won't. My biggest concern is, that it seems some of the damage we hear about happens silently. Then....boom! The band has slipped, eroded, etc. If there is any possibility that drinking beer, or any other carbonated drink will cause issues down the road, it's just not worth it (for me). -

I agree with Mis.....you should check with your doctor. For me, I was told no drinking for a couple of months. It's like putting acid on internal open wounds. A word of caution, though the above poster talks about drinking beer, carbonation is a HUGE no no with the band. -
Woman to hand out 'obesity letter' to overweight trick-or-treaters

Well, if we don't watch out, the government will begin to regulate that, too!! -

Despicable! If I were anywhere near Fargo, I'll have a few dozen ready to launch! -

If you don't like the thread, there is no one holding a gun to your head making you read it. Move onto something more along the lines of what you're looking for. Most of us communicating on this subject, have cultivated e-relationships over the months and years. We are entitled to have conversations. And for the record, not everyone agrees with every person on matters of the lap band, either.

Unfortunately, I've seen that card pulled on this site a few times. Not to mention, what I hear outside of LBT. I honestly think that the race card is a last resort; something to throw out there when certain people can't handle the fact that many do not like ANYthing the man has done since in office. It's almost like a knee jerk reaction to the bombardment of hatred toward Obama. When I hear someone say that people who don't like Obama are racist, my very first thought is.....you are ignorant, and unable to keep up with the ongoing debate. But if you really think about it, didn't we know that this would happen, having the first black man in office? And oh....my.....God. If anything ever happens to this president, we'll have a countrywide riot. History has proven that to be a true statement. We've come so far with race relations over the years, but clearly, not far enough. I did not vote for Obama. Not the first or second time, because I don't like his POLITICS. But when he did win, and I watched the inauguration, I felt such a sense of pride in how far we've come. I truly and honestly wanted this man to do great things. But clearly, all of my fears about him have come to fruition.

I agree. SO many bought the "dream", without drilling down to the harsh realities. We're in for a serious roller coaster ride.....which I hope, doesn't jump the tracks.

Totally agree!

Thank you for the info. But you have to know by now, based on history, that posting this info is going to open up a debate. It's a VERY heated subject; one that people feel very passionate about.

The worst administration EVER. And the man is a complete and total liar. I can't even get into this whole healthcare debacle. We've been through it many times in the forums, and I wonder, if based on where things are today, if voters would cast differently, given the chance. Disclaimer: I am not a racist. Just someone who is sick and tired of the continual BS coming out of the House.

One Month Post-Op...I have questions!!
mrsto replied to amsaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
amsaw - it's really important that you don't get caught up in comparing your progress with anyone else's. We are all SO different, and if you stick to the rules of the band, and follow your program, you will lose weight. It is true that weight comes off faster in the beginning. But please keep in mind that your first month is for healing. Some people don't lose a lot during that time. Others, do. Just be diligent in following your doctor's orders regarding the post-op diet & exercise, and you will do great! All that being said, typical "healthy" weight loss with the band, is one to two pounds per week. In the beginning it might be more, but once things settle down, 1-2 pounds is a realistic expectation, and a healthy rate of loss. When I started out, I was losing about 3 pounds per week. Now, about 1. For me, I'm happy as long as the scale is going in the other direction -
Congrats on your huge life changing decision. You've done GREAT so far, and it sounds like you're well on your way. I myself went back & forth about having surgery, for close to a year. During that time I thought "I can do this on my own". Well, I gained more weight, and finally decided to go through with it. At 58 years old, I've lost and gained 100s of pounds, and given my age, had the health issues that go hand in hand with obesity. I've lost 54 pounds since March, and I feel like a new person (aside from the 58 y/o aches & pains). I'm 21 pounds from goal, and for the first time in many years, I feel hopeful Welcome to the group, jnewman! We're here to answer any questions you have. Or, simply to listen to anything you're going through.

Lap band slipped and gaining like a pig!
mrsto replied to Wishes4444's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I read about all these slips, and it makes me uneasy. I knew from the start that it's an inherent possibility with the band. But I really do hope that the plication dramatically minimizes that possibility. I was told that they rarely see slips with the added plication. I can't really respond as to whether or not a sleeve revision is a good way to go for you. It's such a personal thing. For me, the thought of having 3/4 of a vital organ removed, freaks me out. We don't know what life has in store for us. Maybe at some point in the future, having only part of a stomach may be an issue? Once it's gone, we can't get it back. That is my fear with the sleeve, and with issues surrounding the RNY. -
Take me to a restaurant?
mrsto replied to Bandista's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unless we're dining out with friends, it's rare that I ever order a drink (cocktail) when we eat out. But the times that I do have one, I don't worry about drinking it with food. On the weekends we eat out for just about every meal. I order what I want, and follow the eating rules; small bites chewed well, eat slowly and listen for the signal. When I get the signal, I stop & ask for a to go box. I don't order things like french fries, but I'll eat a few of my husband's. If I order a hamburger, I'll take one or two bites with the bun, but end up pushing the bread off to the side. Learning to eat after surgery is truly a trial and error process. I've never been stuck since being banded, so that never crosses my mind when we're out. I chew so well, that by the time I swallow the bite, that last bite has gone all the way down. I love eating out, and once I got the hang of how to eat while listening for the signal, I just go out and enjoy "dining". My biggest frustration is when something is SO good, I resent having to stop at the signal. I may push another couple of bites, but then I feel the signal yell a little louder. At that point, I'm done -
I feel much better when I have pea protein over whey. I used it prior to band surgery, but it seems that all the bariatric doctors push whey protein. Overall, whey doesn't feel good when I drink it (other than the Premier drinks). But pea feels JUST fine

Have you tried the turkey burgers at Carl's Jr.? I've never been a fast food junky, but on the rare occasion that I drive through, they have a really good one. I haven't had one since being banded, but I imagine I'd only be able to eat about 1/3 of it.

In the beginning I avoided oil, too. But now, when I make a big pot of whatever, I use some oil to sauté the onions, mushrooms and dryer ground meats. Given the amount of oil I use, compared to the number of meals that come out of the pot, it really doesn't add up to much.

LOL! Months back, when I was in the beginning of my post-op diet progression, I'd read posts on here about what people were eating. OMG - I would salivate!
-
LOL! Doesn't get anymore basic than that!

I find the same thing....... If I eat dense protein and veggies, I'm good. As soon as I put a turkey or beef patty on bread, the whole game changes
