I think we all have days when we want to shove the food in with both hands. For me, that impulse is SO strong, that I have to give in so I can move on from it. It's mostly about "hand to mouth" time, so I make a bowl of popcorn, sit down & have at it. If that didn't do it, I'll have one of my favorite Protein bars. Usually, though, after a bowl of popcorn, halfway through the Protein Bar I'm already feeling maxed out. So, I give into the intense need to eat, but I choose differently. Prior to surgery it would have been a trip to the market, and back home with a package of Cookies, or ½ gallon of ice cream. I don't believe any of us are ever really cured from this affliction. To have long term success, I believe we need to stop thinking of our new way of eating as some sort of diet; one day we're on, and the next we're off. Every day isn't a popcorn/protein bar day, but when I'm jumping out of my skin with the intense need to eat, I simply....do. I just stay away from things that will cause weight gain, or send me down a road I really don't want to go.

Amen!

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

I made corned beef and cabbage on Sunday, and it was SO good! First time since surgery. Even though it was tender, it still took a lot of chewing. So after I orgasmed out with the first few bites, it started to become a chore. But was it GOOD

As they say..... When a door closes, a window opens. When you're far enough away from this, you will see it for what it really is/was. Toxic relationships are left behind, and healthy ones appear. Not an easy transition, but at some point you look back and it all becomes crystal clear :-)

Love it!

One month banded and my port flipped

That's really too bad... I'd be pissed off as well. I hope your surgeon has a good explanation. I've heard of this happening here & there in some of the posts, but I can't help but think it's an error of sorts on the "installers" part. This is not an educated comment, just a feeling. Good luck.....I hope you're on your way soon. -
Based on what you are saying, it sounds like your body has gone into starvation mode. I suggest that you increase your calorie intake to the daily allotment for healthy weight loss. I'm sure the nutritionist at your surgeon's office outlined this for you? And I agree with Mrs.RRn, this many months out, you should no longer need to lean on the shakes for your Protein intake. I'm coming up on a year next week, and my surgeon told me that very same thing. Sounds to me like you're pushing your body way too hard, while starving it of necessary energy (calories) and nutrients.

PdxMan - so well put. Many relationships are based on sharing these types of things together; drinking, drugs, food, etc. When one person stops doing it, the whole dynamic changes. Years ago, the last time I dropped 90 pounds, I myself no longer enjoyed spending time with one of my very good friends. We used to sit & eat, drink, smoke pot.....for years. When I stopped doing all of it and reclaimed my life, it was no longer fun to hang out with people doing it. She is a good enough friend that my absence didn't end the relationship. But her feeling was, it's fine if you don't want to partake in whatever, but I'm still comfortable doing what I'm doing. We no longer spent the same kind of time together, and saw each other much less. I went in a whole other direction, and at a different point in her life, so did she. Anyway......that friendship remained, but others were lost. My friend's (same friend) sister is a full blown alcoholic. Her husband is a pot head/drinker. This is what they've done together since they met. She goes through periods of wanting to get help and stop drinking, but she also knows that the marriage will end. They have an autistic child, and a lot on both of their plates. Anyway......I guess what I'm trying to bring out is that once one person leaves a shared addiction behind, most times, the relationship ends. Sad but true. And logically, it has to be that way so the "healthy" one can continue on their healthy path.

So well said!

I love Dress Barn! I haven't been in there since losing all my weight, but it was a great "go to" place for nice clothes in plus sizes. I'll check out the OTHER side now

Jenny Craig - to do or not to do...

I could not have put this any better myself. Exactly how I feel on ALL counts. -
You too, Shel

I don't know which port you have, but they do have a lower profile one. You might want to discuss that with your doctor next time you see him. And as you say, it's a GOOD problem to have - congrats!
-
Me too....never heard of it. The only time I had that type of restriction, is during the post-op phase. Various veggies were added back slowly. But now, anything goes as long as it agrees with my band.

Shel - I think you should be fine. When that disc sits on and pinches the nerve - YIKES! I've had that so bad (different than the herniation), that I had to roll out of bed onto the floor, just so I could get up. I slept in a recliner for three nights the last time it happened. I'm not sure if it was a slipped disc per se, but it was an acute pinched nerve....which was bone on nerve (or disc on nerve?). Either way, I feel your pain - horrible! The biggest thing with the epidural, is staying mindful of your movements when the pain has dramatically subsided. We forget when we're feeling so much better
-
Shel - I've had several epidurals, and they worked great......for as long as they lasted. The ones for the herniation in my lower spine, only lasted a few weeks. But the two I recently had for the herniation in my cervical spine, worked beautifully. I had the last one about 2 months ago, and I pray it lasts for much longer. The meloxicam I take keeps my lower back issue in check. I don't take it daily; more like 2-3 times a week. That drug is the difference between hell and "okay". Wish I could say it's the difference between "heaven and hell", but I don't think I'll see heaven without disc surgery. Which I know is in my future.
-
My doctor says no NSAIDs. However, he does say that things like Meloxicam and Celebrex are okay. But if they're taken, he wants us on an antacid like Omeprozole, Pepcid, Nexium, etc. Once I emailed him that I really needed some Advil, but I was nervous about taking it. He said to go ahead and take it, but don't take 3 at a time. He also (again) said, make sure you take an antacid with it. Regarding the Meloxicam and Celebrex, they know that so many have other issues like arthritis, etc., that without these drugs, people's lives would be absolutely miserable. They can't expect that people will live in debilitating pain because they had WLS. But he's really big on the antacids to mitigate any potential damage to the stomach lining.

Sandy, do you find that drinking all that water in the evening interrupts your sleep? Sometimes I'll have a big cup of herb tea, and I getup to pee about 3 times during the night. So annoying.....
-
Sometimes I'll have the same "morning after" response, and I'm always thrilled! Never thought I'd be so excited about taking a poop! I wish I could say that it happens all the time, but for me, it doesn't.
-
I drink red wine about 1-3 days a week (depending), without issue. I do however feel the alcohol much quicker, and on smaller amounts. Although, that doesn't necessarily stop me from drinking 2 glasses The biggest issue for me, is my lack of control around food when alcohol is involved. I can't eat what I did pre band, but I will eat too much of the wrong things.

What’s Wrong With My Lap Band Diet?
mrsto replied to Helen Bauzon's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I'm totally with you, Leepers. That's what jumped out at me right off the bat. -
Owl - so much of the emotional roller coaster IS before surgery; coming to terms with various things about ourselves, choosing surgery, etc. Hang in there.....I'm sure you'll make the best decision for you :-)
-
PS: regarding meds. I do take medications without issue. It really depends what you're taking; size, can they be broken in half, do they come in liquid form, etc. Discuss this with your doctor, and you'll work out what's best for you. I haven't heard of anyone not being able to keep up with their med regime because of LB surgery. It's tricky in the beginning.....while you're getting used to your new internal setup. But in time, it gets much easier. I can easily swallow a Mucinex tablet, and those are huge!
