    Fear......

WOW!!! I am no where near a surgery date but am as nervous as a virgin at a prison rodeo (good ol Golden Girls quote) about my first initial consult this week but you guys have helped calm my silly little case of nerves and fears..I figure I will need it once things get closer and this becomes a reality.

    Emotional preparation pre-surgery

This post has helped me as well. I am a nervous wreck and I haven't even had my first appointment with the surgeon yet to get the ball rolling. I can only imagine how I will feel as things start moving.
  3. Well that's good to know. I have no issues with titanium.....yay!!!
  4. I'll be sure to ask the Dr about it when I go. Thanks. Never thought about the port.
  5. Been wondering the same thing since I started this but am leaning more toward the band.....
  6. Thanks everyone! I really appreciate it. I am so nervous as it is, (can you imagine how I will be on surgery day!) and this has really helped calm some.not all but some of my fears. You guys rock!!
  7. Thanks. Yes I am going to talk to him. Never thought of calling the manufacturer. Good idea!!! Titanium is fine. That is what my glasses frames are.made of....now. Found out the hard way about the nickel.....not good. Thanks again! I appreciate the input.
  8. I am just beginning my journey. My first consult is March 21 and boy am I nervous. I plan on talking to the Dr about the band (which I am leaning toward) as opposed to the sleeve or bypass. Anyway, I read somewhere (can't remember where) that there is nickel in the band. Well guess what? I am allergic to nickel...go figure! Has anyone seen this before or know about it? Also, I keep reading about rejection.....would that have to do with the nickel or just because a foreign object is implanted inside the body? Like I said, I plan on asking the surgeon about this, (I have a book of questions) but just wanted some input. Thanks.
  9. You can do it!! I am freaking out and I haven't even had my first consult with the surgeon yet....lol..,....yep I am a nervous Nellie..Sounds like I might want to start weaning myself off of the diet sprite....Good luck, Ladybug!

    down 20 lbs

    Congratulations!! That's fantastic!!
  11. HI Christa.... I am new here as well. Not a member of the banded club yet. I have my first consult March 21. I have researched and researched but all the research in the world doesn't add that personal touch....until I stumbled across this site. I have read many posts, asked a few questions and have had some of my fears calmed. I still have a few, and questions as well but I am sure they will be or have been answered. Anyway, good luck on your journey..we may "meet" along the way! Lisa

    Just beginning my journey...scared

Thanks for the insight and tips. I might have to have the Valium before the initial consult! LOL!! I have been reading a lot of posts on here and they are very helpful...informative. I have a feeling this website will be a major part of my process.
  13. Hello everyone! I stumbled across this site during my research on the band. I have been researching for awhile now and have scheduled my first consultation with the surgeon (Dr. Shin, in WV) for March 21. Needless to say, I am very very very nervous! Did I mention I was nervous? I have been making a list of questions for him, have a support buddy who is going with me, but still scared. Is that normal for just a consultation of am I just blowing it out of proportion? The thing that scares me the most about this procedure is being put to sleep. I have only had one surgery in my life and that was a million years ago when I had a tonsillectomy! I wasn't scared just happy that I got to miss school and could have ice cream!! Has anyone else had this problem and how did you cope? Thanks in advance....
