  1. I have been pleasantly surprised with how easy it has been so far. I have not even been tempted to eat anything other than healthy foods. My doc said that is because I have followed the rules for healthy eating and that reduces cravings. I have had one two week plateau but once I got a fill the weight started coming off again....I have to admit it was hard at first to deal with an extended period of gas pain and pain in my left side when I ate but looking back, it was well worth it. I'm so glad to be banded !

    April Banders

I have been really fortunate so far. My band has kept me from feeling hungry unless I go for real long periods of time without eating. I hope it stays that way ! I'm setting mini goals for myself as I go along. My first was to get under 200 pounds. Now I'm looking toward 187 because I remember when that was my weight...years ago ! Then I'm heading for 161, the amount I weighed on the dates that I gave birth to my daughters in 79 and 80. After that, getting under 150 will be a thrill. My final goal weight is somewhere between 110 - 115 which is a healthy weight for me at my height. At that point most of the clothes that I have saved for so many years will finally fit me again ! I never could bring myself to part with them and now am glad I didn't. I think the last time I could wear them was probably 1995 or 1996 ! I'm hoping that by this time next year that dream will come true. Our 20th wedding anniversary is May 6 and I'm hoping that on that date I can once again wear the dress I wore for our wedding.

    Lap Band Books

I just finished reading The BIG Book on the Lap-Band by Alex Brecher and Natalie Stein and Ultimate Lap Band Success by Dr. Duc C Vuong. Both were excellent and full of lots of helpful information. When I saw that they were available on my iphone as downloads I tried to choose between them and after reading the samples I decided that they were different enough from each other in content to buy both. I'm so glad I did. I know I'll be referring to them in the future, probably many times. Even though my doctor gave me a lot of information there was still more to be learned and I highly recommend either or both of them to anyone who wants to read more/learn more about lap band, both pre-op and post op .

    April Banders

Hi Ya'll. I was banded on April 17, 2013. My doctor required a two week pre-op high protein diet to shrink the liver so I started my new life in early April. So far I have lost 45 pounds . I feel so much better and it's great to be able to cross my legs again ! I've had one small fill so far and am going back to see my surgeon again next week. I don't know if he'll do another small fill or wait until next month since everything is going so well for me right now. I've been able to eat everything I have tried so far with no difficulty at all and I kind of like it that way so I'm not sure if I really want another fill right now. We'll decide that together when I see him. It seemed to take forever for my port area to stop hurting but it has gotten better in the past couple of weeks and the shoulder pain has finally gone away too . I'm really happy that I got my lap band. Now, if only I could turn the clock forward to the time when I reach my goal......

    Pain after surgery

I am about 5 weeks post op and can sleep on both sides but my port area, front and back, hurts when I sit up straight for more than a few minutes or bend over . I'm fine when I'm laying down but if course can't lay down all if the time. I still have a lot if gas pain from there to my left shoulder too. Will be glad when this all passes! On the plus side I have gone down two full sizes in my jeans!!!! Excited about that ! My first fill will be June 7 . Really apprehensive about possible pain but looking forward to the results.

    Just curious

I lost 5 pounds prior to my two week high protein diet. I'm now three weeks post op and have lost a total of 29 pounds . I'll be going for my first fill on June 7th.
  12. Have you tried the over the counter anti nausea meds yet? Some people prefer them to the prescription phenergan.
  13. I'm two weeks post op and doing fine except for Fluid build up around my port. It keeps me from being able to sit up straight or lean forward because if pain.... And I mean "take my breath away" pain. My doc said the fluid will dissipate and he gave me a refill on my pain med. I don't know why I didn't think to ask how long it should take to go away... I'll call them today . In the meantime, have any of you experienced this ? If so, I sure would like to hear from you about how long it took for it to stop , if there is anything I can do to speed up the process or whatever you care to share. Other than that I'm feeling good and doing well I've lost 25 pounds so far, 19 of them in the past month from the high Protein pre-op and liquid post-op . I had my first mushy food last night, fat free refrained Beans with a little cheddar cheese. Yummy ! I will get my first fill on June 7.

    Surgery 4/26/13 weight 318

I started out at 236 pounds, my lifetime high, when I first began the approval process. I was down to 230 when I started the pre-op high protein diet. Now two weeks post-op and graduated today to mushy foods. I'm down to 211. I totally agree about setting smaller goals on the way to the final one. My first goal is to get back to onederland. It has been years since I've been there. I am only 5 feet tall . My ultimate goal is to get back to somewhere around 110 pounds but I know that will take time and work . The idea of reaching smaller goals along the way is so much more appealing than thinking about the long road ahead in one step.
  17. I'm going from clear liquids to full liquids tomorrow.Wondering if you all limit yourself to 1/4 cup servings of liquids or does that not come into play until the next ( puréed/mushy) stage ?
  18. LeeAnnfromNC

    OMG!!!!

    Congratulations ! Happy for you!
  19. Yikes... I was doing so good and then that horrible feeling started. Haven't had a yeast infection in many years. Use to get them from antibiotics. Guess the dose I got with surgery was enough to kick that off again. And then the diarrhea started today . We live 23 miles from town m I'm not going out tonight. Will be at Walmart first thing in the morning for monistat and diarrhea med. Hoping I can get some sleep tonight...almost afraid to take my sleep meds but can't sleep without them so I don't know what I will do.
  20. I was banded on April 17, 2013 and am doing better than expected so far. Still stiff and sore and experiencing gas pain in my shoulder and chest and feeling really bloated. I'm assuming that's normal ???? I did a two week high protein diet prior to surgery. My first post op apt is April 30. I'm on clear liquids for one week and then will switch to full liquids for a week before moving on to puréed foods after my post op apt. So far I haven't been told when to start vitamins and nothing has been said about protein shakes. I know I'll get more info from my own Dr when I see him but I'm curious as to when y'all started vitamins and shakes and how many calories a day you consume, or do you even count calories ?

    How do you decide?

I also have fibromyalgia. A lot of my weight gain over the years can be attributed to lack of energy , reduced activity level, and my reactions to medications. I was banded on 4/17/13 .... So far, so good. I can no longer take CymbLta because its a capsule . Hoping it won't make too much of a negative difference . My other meds are all crushable. One positive thing is that by crushing my generic ambien it works much faster and better. I've gotten better sleep this week than I have in a long time. Because I was so much lighter when I developed fibromyalgia I know that weight loss isn't a cure but I am also looking forward to the energy I'm sure to gain by not having to carry around so much excess weight. I'm really glad to see someone else here with fms because some of our challenges might be a little different than those of others. I hope all goes well for you !

    7th day of clear liquids

Wow.. My pre op diet was two weeks of high protein/ow carb, much easier to follow than just liquids. Congratulations on following yours . I know it must have been difficult. I hope your banding goes well for you!
