    Let me introduce myself!

Welcome to LBT. I too was banded by Dr. Lopez in April of 2004. I have lost anywhere from 65 to 70 lbs. I am a slow loser. I have lost somewhere between 30 and 35 inches off my body. THat is an awesome accomplishment I think. Yes, Muscle does weigh more than fat. Good luck on your struggles and post often. Lots here to read and catch up on.

    Want a good laugh?

My daughter called and left me a voice mail today. I am still smiling about this one. My grandson told his mother he wanted a Cow for Christmas. She said he couldn't have one. He said, "Call Gramma, she will get me one." Isn't that the cutest??? Also, my daughter just had hardwood floors put in. Ok so they are slick right. Everyone was falling left and right. She is walking down the hall and falls. My 3 year old grandson is laughing, she is laughing. He walks over to her and leans down and says, "I'll help you up mommie." Isn't that the sweetest thing.

Leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little girl voice, "Mom, what is butt dust?"

Almost 5 mnths out & still learning

I felt you were eating way too fast and taking too big a bit while you were here. I think I even said as much to you at one point. It is really hard to change that mindset. EXTREMELY hard. Like Michelle I learned that little trick late in the game as well. Smaller bites, chew longer, and eat slower. Another trick is to use a saucer instead of a plate to eat off of. Use a small bowl instead of a larger one. Set your fork or spoon down between bites. Sit back and enjoy the flavors from your food. All easily said and wrote but incorporating them into your habits is another thing altogether. We will get there. Eventually.

    Why are YOU Fat?

OK I have thought about this thread ever since I saw it started. I have purposely avoided it because I personally don't want to face the fact that I am fat. That I have an eating problem that makes me fat. I hate the word "fat". It is offensive to me. I heard that in my sleep when I was a child growing up. My dear sweet maternal grandmother, who I love still to this day even though she is gone now, would make comments about me and my weight. It was a sign of gluttony if you were "fat". Meaning you over indulged in EVERY aspect of your life. Not just food. So to be "fat" to her meant you were promiscuious, spent money frivilously, and enjoyed life too much. Don't blame her it was just her upbringing. Which brings me to why I am "fat". I was taught at an early age that eating was a social event. I was dropped off or most times spent the night with my paternal grandparents so my Mom could go to work after my parents divorced. So, I would wake up to fresh homemade buttermilk biscuits, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and always FRESH HONEY and FRIED APPLE PIES. That was just breakfast for a 5 year old. Then lunch would be Ham, green beans, mac and cheese (homemade I might add), and always FRESH HONEY with leftover biscuits and FRIED APPLE PIES. Then dinner would be Fried Chicken, corn, mashed potatoes, green beans, black eyed peas, lima beans, and FRESH HONEY with leftover biscuits or freshly made and FRIED APPLE PIES. See the pattern? This food was for a 5 year old now. She never made me finish my plate and she always let me take what I wanted. I ate a variety of her cooking and always left the table overstuffed. Honey was the livelihood for some of that side of the family. So there was always fresh honey around. Honeycomb and all. YUM YUM!!! Fried Apple Pies were her speciality and no one ever complained about having them at every meal. YUM YUM!!! Sorry this is so long but, the reason I am "fat" is I saw food as "COMFORT FOOD" and in my later years I have tried to capture that same warm loving feeling from her home cooked meals. It just didn't work so I would eat more and in larger quantities. Then I got pissed and just ate junk to make that need go away. IT just got worse. Anyway, this is my process to winning this battle. I am relazing that I can cherish that loving feeling in my heart and not my stomach. Just my thoughts. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

WAY OT: Ex's and their lives

This has absolutely nothing to do with weight loss but had to share this tidbit. Just recently I was looking on this site where you can get in contact with old classmates from Grade school, high school, etc. I found one person that I had lost contact with since grade school days. I emailed her and we have been chatting back and forth. NICE RIGHT? Let me give you a brief history on this person. She slept with my Husband while I was working the graveyard shift at Pizza Hut years ago. I found out about it a year later. The funny thing is I was never as pissed at her as I was at him. LOL!! So we lost contact till I found her on the website. Now she emails me this morning and says. "How did you deal with raising your 4 kids all by yourself after Fred left?" Fred is my EX. She has some troubles with her oldest daughter that I share with my oldest. So she is asking me for some advice on how to deal with it all. I know this is long and probably confusing, but it just amazes me on so many levels. First, How you can be so close to someone that you can't see the deceipt. Second, How you can be so forgiving or accepting of something you know is wrong. Third, How you develop this hard heart toward the outside world. Fourth, How you suddenly change and find yourself again. Fifth, How your heart begins to thaw and forgives. Sixth, How you feel a NEED to connect with people again. Seventh, How you have no more anger or hurt for people that have wronged you. Eighth, How you can feel the other person's pain and empathize. Ninth, How you feel like offering some of your wisdome. Tenth, How you want to shake them and say WAKE UP don't make the same mistake I did. Is it because we mellow with age or just get prettier. LOL!!!

WAY OT: Ex's and their lives

Mousecrazy: I do firmly believe it is by "GOD's GRACE" I was able to forgive and move on. I know he has opened my heart on more than one occasion. Sometimes the head is the issue more than the heart. The heart is willing but the head is stubborn. LOL!!! I am guilty.

    Slow Loser Pics

Ok I am officially a slow loser. I could most likely be on the 100 + losing group by now but I took the slow weigh (pun intended) out. But I think I still look damn good for having lost 60 lbs so far. Just biding my time till those BIG numbers fall off. I am still struggling but hey life is a struggle RIGHT? I can't believe how far I have come since being banded. My cholesterol went from 220 to 180. Blood pressure is lower than it ever has been and I am off medications. Joints don't ache unless I overwork them. THank GOD overworking them means aerobics or walking on treadmill instead of getting out of the chair. LOL!!! I can chase my 3 yr old grandson around the yard and not get winded just getting up from the chair. I can get on the ground and play with him instead of asking him to get on the couch with me. That brings tears to my eyes. And now that I have another grandchild on the way this is even greater NSV's for me. So slow losers stand up and be proud.

    Words of Encouragement

My mom has a knack for sending me emails at just the right time when I am down or need a lift. I was and have been lately very frustrated about my slow weight loss. I am working through all that and accepting some things. THat is hard in and of itself. Then this morning she sends me the following email. It really brought everything into perspetive for me. If this email doesn't ring true for you in your beliefs then don't read it. The Concert When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the mother returned to her seat and discovered that the child was missing Suddenly, the curtains parted and spotlights focused on the impressive Steinway on stage. In horror, the mother saw her little boy sitting at the keyboard, innocently picking out "Twinkle,Twinkle Little Star." At that moment, the great piano master made his entrance, quickly moved to the piano, and whispered in the boy's ear, "Don't quit." "Keep playing." Then, leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in a bass part. Soon his right arm reached around to the other side of the child, and he added a running obbligato. Together, the old master and the young novice transformed what could have been a frightening situation into a wonderfully creative experience. The audience was so mesmerized that they couldn't recall what else the great master played. Only the classic, " Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." Perhaps that's the way it is with God. What we can accomplish on our own is hardly noteworthy. We try our best, but the results aren't always graceful flowing music. However, with the hand of the Master, our life's work can truly be beautiful. The next time you set out to accomplish great feats, listen carefully. You may hear the voice of the Master, whispering in your ear, "Don't quit." "Keep playing." May you feel His arms around you and know that His hands are there, helping you turn your feeble attempts into true masterpieces. Remember, God doesn't seem to call the equipped, rather, He equips the 'called.' Life is more accurately measured by the lives you touch than by the things you acquire. So touch someone by passing this little message along. May God bless you and be with you always! And remember, "Don't quit." "Keep playing."

  19. Subject: Psychiatric Study A study conducted by UCLA's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of male face a woman finds attractive can differ depending on where she is in her menstrual cycle. For instance, if she is ovulating she is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she is more prone to be attracted to a man with scissors lodged in his temple and a bat jammed up his ass while he's on fire. No further studies are expected.

Such sorrow at a young age!!

My youngest daughter just got married this past June of 2004. My son in law Jeremy is like a son to me. His brother, Jacob 19 has a beautiful girlfriend named Amber also 19. I received new this morning that Amber was in a car wreck last night and was killed instantly. She was driving back to her college dorm with her best friend, Elena also 19, when the tire blew out and they hit a tree head on. Both were killed instantly. It will be a closed casket as she was unrecognizable. As if that wasn't horrible enough, Jacob had just proposed to Amber and they had set a date. The rest of the family did not know yet. They were planning to tell them this weekend. I had met Amber when my daughter Erin got marred in June. Amber went to the bachlorette party with us and she was a sweet and beautiful girl. The whole town of Lake Wales, FLorida is devastated. Both girls were very well known. I am heartsick for both families of the girls and for Jacob as well. He is in shock and destroyed. Keep them in your prayers. Life is so short sometimes. Isn't it?

Such sorrow at a young age!!

John and I video taped Erin's wedding and when we were looking at the footage not too long ago we ran across a scene that made me just burst into tears. IT was of Jacob and Amber dancing to "One more day". I don't know the singer but the song was precious. So John and I decided to take that section of the wedding reception and make a separate DVD for Amber's family and Jacob. They are dancing and kissing and at the end Jacob picks her up and twirls her around. SO precious. I got a really sweet email from Jacob and Amber's parents saying it helped them with the healing. I was again brought to tears. They are all healing and it is getting easier. Thank you all for asking,.
