I got my band on May 6th. I have a very hard time getting my fluids and protein in. I really have a hard time getting my fluids because I don't have time it sip all day long. However, sometimes if want a glass of water so bad. My question is what happens if you were to just drink a glass of water to quench your thirst? Does it tear things loose? Does it stretch your pouch? Or is it just to get you used to having smaller amounts of food in your mouth?

Today I had my first post-op appointment since being banded on May 6th. I have lost 21 lbs and they said for me to start eating more protein in my diet. I start mushies tonight. Any suggestions? I need all the help I can get because the protein powder nauseates me to death. Thanks friends!

Suddenly have intense pain
tmposton replied to tmposton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to apologize to you all. That intense pain actually is my port. I had my company picnic and one of the girls from corporate office has a band. She said the place where I thought mine was is actually where the band was inserted. I feel like such an idiot. Now I know what all of you are talking about with the port pain because YES it IS painful! Tomorrow is my first follow up appointment. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Wish me luck! -
Had my band surgery on May 6. I haven't had a lot of pain at all. However yesterday I started feeling this intense, very sharp, stabbing pain about an inch or so below my right side incision. This pain intensifies when I stand up or get up out of bed. It is especially noticeable when my fat roll (pardon the expression) is unsupported. I have actually taken more pain medication in the last 2 days than I have the whole time I have been home from the hospital. Can anyone relate to this? Any suggestions?

Suddenly have intense pain

This is not the side where my port is. It is actually about an inch below an incision on my right side. My port has not hurt much at all. -
Going into full liquids
tmposton replied to Samirax6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My liquids phase is anything you can put through a straw. You just can't use a straw, of course. -
How about the Bible on tape or cd or iPod where you can listen to it while walking on a treadmill or while you are at sports practices/events? Also my exercise physiologist suggested I start "smoking" and take a 10minute smoke break just to walk around the block 2-3 times a day. Just a few ideas.

My surgery was 9 days ago. I came back to work on Monday. I, too, have a desk job. I probably could have taken less time off but I didn't wanna push it. The pre-op diet is different from surgeon to surgeon. Mine was 2 weeks of 4 Carnation Breakfast Essentials with 1/2 scoop of Protein powder and 1 Healthy Choice meal for supper. I also could have broths, pickles, sf Jello and Popsicles, and small portions of very low calorie veggies like steamed broccoli. I, too, thought it was impossible but it wasn't. As a matter of fact, I kinda wish that's what I could do now. The post op liquid diet is pretty much a breeze because your guts are sore and you don't really get that hungry. When you are ready to progress through the stages, I have found, you are definitely ready. If you have any doubts about it make sure they are gone because once it's done there's no turning back. It will be worth it in the end. Best if luck to you!

So today makes 8 days since surgery and day 3 back at work and boy am I beat! I'm exhausted, weak and hurting like crazy. I keep hooking my right incision under the handle on my desk drawer in my office and it is red and swollen. Thank God I work in a doctor's office and am a nurse myself. I don't think it is infected. It is just really irritated and it looks a little rough. I think the heat we are having here is getting to me as far as the rest of the stuff goes. Plus, I work 10-12 hour days and they were hard even before the surgery. The girls in my office keep telling me they think I am a trooper and have done really good about sticking to my diet. However, I CANNOT get my fluids and proteins in. I'm sending my daughters tomorrow to see if they can find the clear protein so I can just put it in everything. My company picnic is Sunday and it is mandatory for us to be there. That is going to be a challenge. Anyone have any suggestions on that one? I think sometimes people forget, however, that I did just have surgery and I'm not the bionic woman. Everybody wants me to crawl around in the floor and look for stuff and they say, "I'm not tired" when I say I'm tired. Wow! I just need to hide somewhere for a few days I think!

First day back at work after being banded 6 days ago. I'm tired, I'm sore, and I was starved by the time I got home. Today was the first day ip have had true, stomach-growling hunger pangs. Saturday evening I went to the mall with my mom and that was the first time I felt hunger since being banded. I'm still having a hard time getting in all my protein because it don't agree with me just yet. I can't find the kind that you put in your soups so I'm doing the best I can. Also, I can't get all my fluids in just yet. I'm just wondering how you know when you have had too much to eat. Has anyone felt that yet? Last night I went walking and took a shower.....NOT a pleasant feeling at ALL!! I was SO nauseated! I actually stood in the shower and cried I felt so bad. That was a first, too. Hope everyone else is doing well! I am doing better by the day. I can even take my medicines without it hurting so bad. However, first thing in the morning and at bedtime I'm in so much pain I can barely move.

Cindi, I have been moved up to the full liquids phase as of yesterday evening so I am eating a lot of soups. I have also thinned out baby food meats and mashed potatoes really thin. My foods have to be able to pass through a straw but of course you can't use one. I'm having a problem getting in all my fluids and proteins as of right now, though. I'll work on that more tomorrow. -

From personal experience from other surgeries walking and moving is the best way to get rid of the gas. You can try a heat pad also but if you want the best relief have someone to rub it till it goes away. I haven't had a problem with that much with this surgery. I'm having esophageal spasms from my hernia repair brought on by too cold food. I didn't want to take a pain pill but I finally had to break down and take one. I am also having a lot of intestinal gas and explosive diarrhea. That has been the worst so far. My surgery was Tuesday and today I got to experience the feeling of eating too much. I don't want to do that again! I are just a bite or two over a half cup and I thought I was having a heart attack from the pressure in my chest. It felt like I had a huge burp lodged sideways and it wouldn't come up, go down, anything. It just went away. Wow! What have I gotten myself into??? -
My hernia repair and my right side are what hurts the most also. But my hernia was in my esophagus so it hurts in my chest. I think my ports on the left side. It doesn't hurt too bad at all I'm still having some mobility issues getting in and out of bed and turning. Otherwise I'm not doing bad at all. I have gas pains in my left shoulder and I'm also having gurgling from eating foods again. I'm just glad it's over with.

Hello May Bandsters! I hope you all are doing well! I want to thank you all for the get well wishes. I came home yesterday evening. I had to stay because I had to do the barium swallow plus my heart rate was too high and my oxygen was too low. I woke up at about 330 this morning with my throat swollen. My uvula was almost blocking my throat. So I had to go see the PCP today. Apparently I have both ears infected and a sinus infection. I've been on the clear liquids yesterday and today and I move on to full liquids tomorrow. Other than being sore where I had an esophageal hernia repaired I feel good. I'm still pretty tired and have some gas pains but otherwise I feel great! Thanks again, guys, for your support! -

Had my surgery yesterday. Ended up staying overnight in the hospital because I couldn't do the barium swallow. I was too nauseated. So far I'm just sore. My nurse has a walking app on her phone and she said that I have already walked a half mile just getting out of bed. Dr said that he had to use a bigger band due to my hernia bad it will work but it will just take longer to lose weight. At least it's over! -
I'm sick of them, too, but when I don't have one I can feel it. I have a lot more energy, though, than what I had before. I'm so nervous I don't know what to do with myself. Tuesday can't get here fast enough.

My surgery is Tuesday. I'm so nervous but I can't tell anyone because they will try to talk me out of it.
