  1. My sentence was cut short. I meant to say everyday is a new adventure and a blessing!
  2. Good luck on your surgery. You may be a little uncomfortable at first but move around as much as you can to break up gas that builds in your system from the surgery. It may hurt a lot at first but the more you move the less pain you will have. I'm very excited for you! It took me several years and a change of two insurance companies to finally be approved for surgery here in central FL., US. I even was tempted to fly to Mexico for this surgery. I was ready to self pay when my insurance came through and finally approved me! I was ecstatic because I would have been flying to Mexico all by myself. Anyway, I had my surgery done in St Petersburg, FL with Dr. Renkhe and I'm thrilled I was able to have it done in FL. I was not alone and my sweetheart stayed with me overnight to make sure I was OK. He never would have been able to accompany me to Mexico. I am thrilled I had the surgery in Dec., 2012 and everyday is a

Parents the start of over eating

My mother would answer for me as I was overweight since childhood. My mom was constantly, constantly putting me on diets and telling me what I could have and what I couldn't. When I was in 7th grade I would starve myself and eat an apple and one orange for my food intake. I did not lose weight because I didn't know you needed calories to burn off calories. So my body hung onto every fat cell because my calories weren't being burned off. My mother felt it was OK for me to just eat those two fruits daily until she realized I was not losing weight. The doctor told my mom I was to eat everything but in moderation. My mother still restricted me and I grew up fat. I don't blame my mother because we didn't know all the things about nutrition that we know now. I'm a grandmother now and I never forced my children to clean their plate Thank God. I just didn't want to tell them you can't eat this or that because you're not allowed.

    200 Pound Loss Picw

You look fabulous! I hope to lose my cane when I reach goal. I'm permanently disabled so I may have to still use it but I'm hoping I don't. Congratulations to you! You look marvelous!
  6. No expectations, my diet did not officially take place until my pre-op liquid diet but I was still careful what I ate. I was banded 12/28/12 and had a 2 week pre-op diet of Optifast. I'm almost 40 lbs down. Just eat wisely and when you're approval comes through be prepared for your pre-op diet. Wishing you well.

    Diet Coke

To be honest with you I have not fully given up Diet soda all together yet. I drink a lot less of it than I did before the band. I have always retained fluid per and post. Anyway I'm drinking more water than diet soda. I have lost weight but only about 2 1/2 lbs per week since Dec. I used to weigh daily. DON'T DO IT! I weigh myself weekly now. Anyway, I'm gradually weaning from diet soda. So I wish you well!
  8. I stayed in a hotel prior to my surgery and I would advise being bottled water as you will be on clear liquids most likely after surgery. They gave me pain mess but the most pain I experienced was gas pains post surgery. It went up to my left shoulder so walk a lot post ip and do arm exercises to break up any gas. Was banded 12/28/12 and I'm feeling pretty good. I've lost close to 40 lbs and I'm hoping to reach my goal by December 2013

    Anxiety Attacks????

Definitely call the doctor. I was banded 12/28 and never have had an anxiety attack. Good luck!

    Port Bugs Me

NEED A PORT REVISION AFTER 4 MONTHS! Well, the good news is I'm down 38 lbs. My surgery was on 12/28/12. My surgeon is very pleased with my progress. The bad news is that when I went for a fill today the doctor tried to push my port flat and whatever he did hurt like crazy. He stopped dead in his tracks and said I can't fill you because your port has flipped and we're going to have to do day surgery. So he will fill me when he revises the port. I was hoping to get a fill because I am feeling hunger between meals, he feels I'll manage without a fill. I hope so. I'm averaging about a 1 1/4 lb. per week weight loss. I'd rather lose 2 lbs. a week but I am happy with 1 1/4 a week. Anyone else have a port revision? If so, are you doing OK now? Thanks!

    Hungrier after fill?

I'm going for my third fill tomorrow. I'm hoping I'll be in the green zone because I'm not there yet. In answer to your question, yes I was hungrier after my first fill. I thought maybe my doctor had not filled NE at all but he did. I've heard it takes 3 or 4 fills to hit the sweet spot. Good luck to you!

    Finally got a date!!

Congratulations! I was banded 12/28/12 and was so prepared for surgery but I did have some pain afterwards. I was told it was gas and I did have it about 2 weeks. The gas went all the way up to my shoulder so be prepared. After that it's a breeze. I'm still adjusting to my Lapband fills and go for my third this Wednesday. I'm hoping I hit the the green zone this time.
  13. That's good you're getting the port removed. I'm not pregnant and mine sticks out so I can imagine being pregnant! You've got to be cautious so you don't harm your baby in any way. At least you have the option of getting your port replaced after the baby is born. Good luck to you!
  14. I was banded 12/28/12 and still don't know what the green zone is. I hope I'm doing the right thing because sometimes I feel like I'm eating too much.

    Second Fill

You ate doing amazingly well! I am disabled and don't have the pleasure of going to a gym. My exercise is limited due to my disability. Having said that I was banded on 12/28/12. I have lost 34 lbs so far between pre-op and post-op. I have not found that proverbial "sweetspot" so many people talk about. I think I felt like I had a sweetspot while I was healing. I don't feel any restriction per se but just stop eating when I mentally feel I am eating too much. My surgeon feels that considering my physical limitations that I'm doing well losing a pound per week. I'd love two pounds per week but as long as I have a persistent weight loss I'll take it. Keep up your good work'

  17. Ok, I'm post op going on 3 months. Have not totally given up my diet soda. I still drink it but very slowly and I let the ice melt a little in the glass so it gets flat. I have mainly been drinking snapple and Crystal Light. I am finding it harder to give up my diet Pepsi than it was to give up cigarettes 30 years ago. I gave up a 2 pack a day habit cold turkey and have not smoked in 30 years! The diet soda was my one vice that I enjoyed immensely. I'm going to need a lot of encouragement to get me totally off the blasted stuff. I feel no discomfort after drinking my diet soda so far. My doctor is aware of my problem and he said that some of his patients are able to tolerate soda so the jury is out on that I guess. If you guys encourage me enough maybe I can get off of it totally. any support is appreciated! Thanks!

    I need some advice...

If you are only taking 600-700 calories a day your body may be going into a starvation mode and it's hanging onto every calorie instead of burning them off. Ask your doctor but it sounds like you need to take in more calories so it to start burning off. Try a 1000 calorie diet. You need fuel to burn off those calories. I'm not a doctor but I have been on enough diets to know that you need calories to burn off calories. When you start losing more weight you can reduce your intake of calories but right now 600-700 calories is very low.

One Week Ago Today I Was Banded!

When you had your slippage and started gaining weight did you have to be hospitalized again? Did insurance cover it? I was banded 12/28/12 but my port keeps twisting and I look like I have a hernia. Also, I haven't felt that green spot like I did after my first fill.

    guilty pleasures

OMG Carolinagirl, Clay Aiken is my all time idol! I even held a fundraiser cruise for his charity in Feb., 2008. I love, love, love Adam Lambert as well. Daughter us doing just fine so his exposure on AI was what he needed. I try to follow Clay and Adam as much as possible. I was banded on 12/28/12 btw.
