OK, I don't feel so bad now, I was in church and was trying to be discreet lol. Didn't happen, the pastor came over to say hello and I went to stand up to greet him. Well, there was no discreet about it. I ripped right in front of the pastor! It felt so good though to get it out of my system.

Newly Green Zone: What's Working for Me
dawalsh replied to lekanto's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You're doing great! Congrats OMB getting below 200 Lbs! That's awesome! Unfortunately, I can't do as much physical activity as I'd like as I physically challenged due to two strokes and two brain surgeries but I've lost 45 lbs so far since Dec. 2012. I look forward to the day I go under 200 lbs! 24 more lbs to lose before that happens. I was told I would be in a wheelchair the rest of my life. I'm proud to say that I walk with a cane and I try to walk as much as possible, I'm hoping someday to be free of my cane! -
Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!
dawalsh replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you! The carb cycle sounds like a plan! I was recently at a travel agent's convention in Las Vegas and one of the speakers was a former contestant on the biggest loser. He was promoting the three biggest loser ranches in the United States. He mentioned carb cycling and also mentioned that while you're at the ranch you're assigned a personal trainer during the length of your stay. He was trying to get us travel agents to promote the ranch as a health retreat vacation. Sounded intense but they do the carb cycle on the ranch. -

The gas pains are perfectly normal. Take the advice of the post banisters, walk, walk and walk some more. Move your arms up and down as well. The trapped gas hurts but it will go away.

Was it very expensive? I kind of see a TT in my future but I know insurance won't cover it. Your surgeon did a good job. -

New Jersey Governor Chris Christy got lap band (congradulations)
dawalsh replied to allie1516's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think that as long as he is successful with his weight loss that more insurance companies will cover the surgery. I originally was going to fly to Mexico as a self pay but I wondered how and where I would get my fills after surgery. As I was worrying about that my insurance decided to pay for my surgery, I was thrilled! Therefore, if Christy is successful more insurance companies will cover it. At least I hope so! -
Thanks everyone, I'm feeling better mentally but it did hurt initially to hear those comments. I 'm holding my chin up and I appreciate all the encouragement.

Port removal and still having complications
dawalsh replied to willbethin2013's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Definitely get another opinion. Where is this doctor located? I want to make sure I don't use him. It sounds as if he's using you as experiment! If your insurance paid for your surgery let them know. Who knows what will happen but it's YOUR body, not the surgeon's. Don't let that surgeon give you a "let's see and wait" attitude. Your life is precious and remember doctor's are not gods so everything your surgeon is telling you is not gospel. You deserve the best and I wish you well. -
It's an emotional roller coaster. I think mentally I will always be fat eventhough I've lost 45 lbs since December. I'm still wearing my same clothes as I did before the surgery. I was a 3X, started wearing a 2X and the 2X is getting big on me but I can't bring myself to try a 1X or XL. Men have started commenting and saying you look great, have you lost weight? My standard answer is well, I'm trying to. I find it hard to accept a compliment from a man. Call me crazy but I think I'm always going to feel overweight because I have been heavy all my life.I have not told any of my acquaintances that I've had LB surgery for fear of failure So when my PCP tells me that I haven't lost very much weight, I feel down. I know it will get better but I'm trying my best to hang in there. Sorry to ramble on but I had to get it off my chest.

I can relate to every one of these posts and had serious doubts myself. I want to see my grandchildren grow as well. Yes, I worry about failure but I think that's normal. The positive thing is I'm now off my diabetic medication. I'm looking forward to getting off all my meds. I'm glad I was banded and eventhough I need a port revision I have full faith and I'm positive I made the right decision having this surgery! Good luck to you!

I was banded 12/28/2013 and I just now this week started eating brown rice without a problem. Before the band I had trouble digesting any kind of rice. Now however, the brown rice was well tolerated.

Me too lol! I got back from Vegas yesterday, I stayed at the Venitian and the robes they provided were definitely not made for people like me. I'm hoping by the time I go to Vegas again I can wrap that robe around me! -
I sleep on my stomach is that bad for the port?
dawalsh replied to chanthyk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different, I tossed and turned so I could sleep on my stomach. Well, needless to say I flipped my port and will be having a revision done on May 10th. I was originally banded on Dec. 28, 2012. So it happened between March and April because I went for a fill the beginning of April. I had a very slight fill the beginning of March, my doctor believes in being very conservative with the fills. Anyway, my doctor saw the port protruding way out and it looked like a tiny golf ball sticking out. He tried to manipulate my port with his hands and I screamed it hurt so bad. I have an extremely high tolerance for pain so for me to scream was not normal. So the doctor said he would not fill me until the port was fixed. I feel hungry more than I have in the past and I know I'm eating more than I should. My journey started at 267 lbs. I was down to 223 in early April. I'm praying to God I haven't gained any weight but I am hungry so time will tell when I get revised in May. My doctor did say that nobody is sticking a gun to my head to overeat which is true and I think that holds me back from eating more but I know I'm eating a little more and I start feeling guilty. Anyway I got off the track lol, just be careful when you lay on your stomach. I love laying on my stomach and now I need surgery to repair the port. -
Have it checked. I'm having a port replacement on May 10th. I felt a pain just turning in bed. It woke me up enough to be concerned. Sure enough, when I went for a fill the doctor couldn't do it because my port flipped, movements can pull your port out if you're not careful. I did mine in my sleep but the pain was enough to wake me up. Good luck whatever you decide.
