Actually, my sweet cravings have decreased and I actually crave savory or salty things now but have to watch because I retain fluid. Before surgery I craved Good and Plenty licorice candy everyday. I have not had that craving at all post op. I also would crave chocolate and now I have not touched it because I have no craving for it. I

My daughter dropped a bombshell and I'm worried My daughter called tonight to tell me she is scheduled on June 18th for gastric sleeve surgery in San Antonio, TX. I asked why the sleeve and she said because her surgeon no longer does lapband surgery because of the high failure he had with patients. He only does bypass surgery and the gastric sleeve only. My late husband's. mother died of stomach cancer as did her Aunt on her father's side die from stomach cancer last year. My daughter said she wants a permanent fix because she can't be bothered going back for fills. I'm really worried about her but thrilled that she is doing something about her weight. Has anyone heard of a doctor not wanting to do the band because of a high failure rate? I haven't. Also, she is self pay because her insurance does not cover gastric sleeve surgery. Her surgeon is charging her $4500 for the surgery plus she has to stay 3 days in the hospital which she also has to pay. She is putting it all on Care Credit. I'm very concerned for my daughter as she has never had major surgery and she has a little 1 yr old to take care of as well. Sorry for rambling on but I'm concerned about my daughter getting the sleeve.

Courage to not feel embarrassed I failed.

This whole thread has inspired me and now know not to be embarrassed if I fail. I will ick myself up, dust myself off and start again if need be. Good luck to all you binders and know that you can pick yourself and start again and not be embarrassed. Thank you! -

Wow Missy, You really look fantastic! I wish you well! -
Hey, I will ONLY use Hellman's regular or light. If you gave me a blind taste test I would be able to tell the difference. I don't use a lot of mayo because of the fat and calories in the regular Hellman's but I can't use any other brand. If I'm in a restaurant I try not to order anything that is mayo based like tuna or chicken salad. I usually order condiments on the side anyway. I'm not into fat free mayo from Hellman's but the light and regular I prefer.

Wow, I can't believe this because I'm not having a problem swallowing any pills. Then again, I feel no restriction yet. I crushed my pills for a month after surgery (12/28/12), I started taking a chewable multi vitamin from the. Get go but I take 5 pills a day and they are pretty big in size. I'm hoping there is nothing wrong with me because I have no problem swallowing pills. The biggest pill I've taken is a full size Vicodin but maybe it's just me.

God bless you on your re-band journey. I am praying for you and your son in Afghanistan. As a mom, I feel your plight and it is so true how emotions affect our eating. I was banded in 12/28/12 and I've lost a total of 45 lbs but now I'm at a standstill. I'm using my fitness pal religiously and I hope to get below 220. I've had 3 fills so far but still haven't hit that sweet spot. I'm eating less but still have head hunger. What I'm trying to say is that you can do this and my thoughts and prayers are with you! Good luck!

Some people like to poke the wound :(
dawalsh replied to Omfgmelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there kiddo, I'm sure your father was not thinking because that would have hurt me as we'll. I'm. Losing very slowly myself but you know what? I had a girlfriend who had gastric bypass surgery and she did lose a lot quickly. As it stands now she has put quite a bit of weight back on. She is still thinner than I remember her originally but she lost that weight fast. It is slowly creeping back up on her though. So stick to your guns and hang in there. You're losing weight and that's all that counts! Good luck! -
Coffee (not decaf)??
dawalsh replied to cat whisperer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, I survived two strokes, two brain operations ovarian cancer AND gave up smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day 31 years ago COLD TURKEY! Well the one habit I could never, EVER give up is my coffee! I used to drink about 4 cups a day and I'd always make 12 cups. However, I am such a fanatic about drinking only freshly brewed coffee that if it sat in the pot more than 30 minutes I dumped the pot. So last year I treated myself to a Kuerig coffee maker and it only makes one cup at a time. I told my doctor when I was on my pre-op diet that the one thing I didn't think I could overcome was my coffee. So my surgeon said I'm not forbidding you from having your coffee but to limit it. OK, I could live with that so I have my coffee every single day and occasionally I'll have a second cup. So, I can overcome almost everything but if they took my coffee away I would go bonkers! I treat coffee like it's dessert that's how much I love it. I know it sounds crazy but I have to have my coffee. I realize caffeine is a drug but believe it or not that if I have a headache I'll drink a cup of regular coffee and the headache starts to dissipate. -
Good luck!

My mom, my biggest cheerleader, made me feel so alone tonight for the first time in this journey.

You have my support and I'm just wondering if you could go to an upbeat weight loss support group like TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). I believe the website is TOPS. Org. They are non-profit and I used to go weekly when I lived in New York. I paid $2.00 a week and got weighed and there was a lot of moral support. I've gained several friendships through TOPS and I keep in touch with several of them since I moved away 13 years ago. The meetings may seem silly because aside from getting weighed in there is a lot of singing but I loved that. We were all their for the same reason which is moral support . Maybe you could go to the website and check out to see if there is a chapter near you. It's relatively inexpensive, I was paying $2.00 a week when I left but that $2.00 came back to me if different events that I attended. I would go back to TOPS here in my town but I'm not a morning person. They meet at 8:00 AM here. My group I belonged to met at 7:00 PM which is more my speed. I wish you much luck and all I can say is hang in there'! Treasure your 74 yr old mom I wish I had my mom with me today. God bless. Diane -
Good luck to you!

dawalsh replied to Spoiledguti86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I realize you posted the pic to see if anyone else had a similar incident. So, no offense taken with me but you do know that the doctor is best for all your answers. By all means show your doctor that pic, it may help with a diagnosis. Good luck! -
Port removal tomorrow due to infection. Will I still have restriction?
dawalsh replied to mileend's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Everything you asked us should be asked to your doctor. I can empathize for what you're going through but the only one who can help you best is your doctor. I wish you well and hope it turns out OK! -
