drinking cold fluids
dawalsh replied to arizonagirl202000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, when I eat in a public place I always drink with a straw! I can't drink unless I have it with a straw. I'm fine with hot beverages like hot tea and my ever loving coffee. Maybe I'm wierd but I've never had a gas problem and I use a straw a lot. Old habits die hard I guess. -
As of yesterday, officially 60 pounds down!

Congratulations! I envy you and wish I could do a 5k but due to my disability I'm unable to run but I'm walking and not relying on a mobility cart or my scooter. I'm walking with a cane for many years and have depended on wheelchairs, scooters and mobility carts. I know I'd lose faster if I could jog or run but I can swim and walk with my cane do I'm getting there. I'm losing slowly, I was banded on 12/28/12 and as of today I'm down 50 lbs. so I'm happy. -
You look fantastic and look at least 10 yrs younger with the weight off! Congratulations!

Hi Abdrew, I'm in my 60's and it took me 3 seminars to convince me this was right for me. I have had a lot of medical problems during my life. I had two strokes way back in 1980. I am an ovarian cancer survivor and I was diagnosed with borderline diabetes. God has me here for a reason and I decided at my age I wanted to be around for my grandchildren. Anyway, after my third seminar I became convinced that this was the safest surgery for me. Well guess what? I am now off diabetic medicine, my blood pressure med dose as been reduced, I'm feeling better all around and I can say for the first time in my life since 1980 I don't need a mobility cart to shop in Walmart or SAMs. I was banded on 12/28/12 and as of today I'm 50 lbs lighter! So, I have not had many complications. My port flipped while I was sleeping but had it fixed in a quick day surgery on May 10th. So what I'm trying to say is I don't think you'll have any regrets. It does not mean you can eat everything after surgery. You still have to watch your calories and get exercise. However, the more you lose the easier it becomes. I still have a long way to go but I'm getting there. Good luck to you!

Four weeks then monthly until I get in the green zone.

Well, I'm glad some of you don't get sick but I think as we lose our layers of fat (yes, I said the F word - FAT! Lol), I think our immunity might weaken parts of our system. For instance, I need a sweater sometimes during the summer months (I live in FL) whereas before I lost 50 lbs I was always hot. It could just be me but I think the thermostat in my body has changed. I get more colds also.

Does insurance cover the sleeve if they already paid for the band? I mean it would have to be medically necessary wouldn't it? Good luck on your sleeve!

Oh man I would have cried over losing that coffee deink sounds delicious! Then again, don't get me started in my coffee addiction lol. I've cut my coffee consumption to no more than 2 cups a day. That is karma though and I would not be surprised if that happened to me. Oh well, stuff happens lol.

Is there a solution to your problem or must you suffer from your muscle being torn? I'mbreally sorry and hope you'll get relief soon.

I did. not and will not ever give up my coffee. I could give up food believe it or not if I had a choice lol. I told my doctor and his nurse that my pre-op diet was doing fine but only because I refused to give up my coffee. Then his nurse jumped in and said you can have coffee but to limit it. I drink two cups a day with my measured out half and half and log it into my calorie count on my fitness pal. I've been drinking my coffee since Dec 14th and I'm down 47 lbs! I wish it were more but I'll take 47 lbs anyday!

Good luck!

Banded May 30th in Tampa by Dr Aguilla
dawalsh replied to Livnlow's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well congrats on your surgery! I thought I had a long commute from Titusville, FL to St. Petersburg, FL! Lol. Anyway, I went to a center of bariatric excellence in St. Petersburg which is right next to Tampa. I'm happy with my decision to use Dr. Rehnke. I am concerned a bit because I'll be gone 1 1/2 months to San Antonio, TX. I'm hoping to connect with a doctor while in TX in case of any problems. So being you came all the way from VA, I'm sure I'll find someone in TX. Good luck with your weight losses! -
We're here to support each other not sell products that you can benefit from. We're here because of the lapband and to support each other not to promote your business. If you're doing so well on Body by Visalus you need to go on The Body by Vi support group, not here. I have nothing against Body by Vi but you're in the wrong group for that.

Can anyone else feel/see your port protruding?
dawalsh replied to daisies76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is not where B-52's is but as you lose weight it will stick out even more. Mine wasn't visible but I could feel it. Then one day I woke up and the port was sticking out really bad. My port had flipped and my band ceased to work properly. Well, I finally had a port revision which is day surgery. My port is in place and working again. You should feel something however. If it bothers you a lot call your doctor. -
That is great! I'm happy that you're dating. You deserve every happiness.

You could say your having a hernia repair or a hiatal hernia problem that will be fixed. I wound up having a small hernia so it all worked out. Or don't say anything.
