What can I use to diminish the scars?
dawalsh replied to hockeymother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Breaking open a vitamin E gel cap and rubbing on the scar every single day and that should help fade it out. It takes awhile but it worked for me. -
Ok, look, I picked the worst time to go on a pre-op diet. It was 12/14/12 during the height of the holiday season. I had parties to go to and I did cheat a little but most of my choices were smart such as proteins, fruits and veggies but I did have a couple of those homemade Christmas cookies which let's face it only come around once a year. Anyway, eventhough I cheated I incorporated it into my 800 calorie a day per-op diet. I lost 10 lbs and it all worked out. You can't beat yourself to death because you had a cheat. Just jump right back on the program and don't look back. Good luck.

Please insist on seeing and talking to your surgeon. You sound desperate and desperate times call for desperate measures. You've got to get your health in order. Tell your surgeon that the pills don't help and whatever else you have done and that you seriously need help. I remember many, many years ago I had pains that were I not diagnosable. All my tests came back negative. Finally, one day I literally collapsed in front of my doctor and he admitted me into the hospital. An emergency exploratory surgery was done and it turned out to be my gallbladder. It was not showing up in x-rays because it was a solid rock instead of broken up gallstones. It was not showing up in any tests I had done. When I was in recovery the surgeon told me that my gallbladder was a mess. So I had it was taken out. So what I'm saying is be adamant with your doctor. I hope all works out for you.

how do you add the body weight ticker to your profile/posts?
dawalsh replied to aviva1979's topic in The Lounge
I'd like to know that too. I thought it might be some kind of app that synchronizes your weight. Not sure. -
Good luck Ron!

What are you NOT ABLE to eat?
dawalsh replied to Wanna-Be-Healthy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So far, I'm able to eat most anything. I had a problem with white rice before so I don't eat it at all I chew everything thoroughly so I've been lucky with food. -
Hi Ronn Did your doctor give you the option of a sleeve? I just feel that you were given only one option. I opted for the band but I originally wanted the sleeve. If I do have problems down the line I would probably opt for the sleeve. I'm in FL, and I live in Titusville but travel to St Petersburg which is 3 hrs away but that's a story in itself. I went to seminars for 3 yrs, I wanted a person to person relationship with my surgeon. I have that with my surgeon. The other places I went fills were handled by someone other than the surgeon. Then you never saw the surgeon again unless a complication set in. I couldn't handle that. I have to have a rapport with the doctor. Wishing you well and hope everything turns out OK for you.

My personal goal is 145. My PCP would be very happy if I was 180. I've got a ways to go to get to ONEderland. I weighed in at 222 this morning and I only lost 3 lbs this month. I'm frustrated over the slow weight loss but at least I'm losing. My PCP does not think I'm losing enough per month but my surgeon feels I'm doing well. My vitals are all excellent not just good but excellent. My cholesterol count is in ONEderland, it used to be 215, my sugar is good and even got taken off of diabetic medicine. My heart rate is 70 and my BP is like 113/70, so my health has improved immensely. So that's a NSV I'm proud of. Now if I could just get in ONEderland with my weight lol!

Tracie, I've been to Ireland 18 times. I have family all over Galway (well my late husband's family anyway). How do they handle the Lapland in Ireland? I know they have socialized medicine but I know there is private pay as well.

July 11, 2013 Band Date
dawalsh replied to CAishaGA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off you really don't need a good bye food fest because you will be eating food again. You'll most likely be on clear liquids after surgery, then full liquids, then mushy stage and then solids. You will be eating food only less, a lot less. A cupful of food per meal is the standard. If you read through these threads you'll see Mis73 (Missy), she has lost 200 lbs and counts calories and measure her food. Check her out because your doctor is your best advisor but Missy is amazing and I've learned a lot from her posts. Best of luck to you! -

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
dawalsh replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so glad I came across this thread. I'm still desperately trying to get a grip on when I will finally feel restriction. I go tomorrow for my post op 6 month check up and most likely another fill. Thank you for this post because I've actually learned things that now make perfect sense! -
I too was banded on 12/28/12 and still have not hit that sweet spot and because of that I have not lost much either. I truly have to work at watching what I eat because I could still eat more than a cupful of food and still be hungry. I'm going for another post op check on Monday. I hope and pray I hit the sweet spot because right now I'm struggling. I go to TX for the entire month of July. My doctor is in St Petersburg , FL. I don't want to wind up in an ER because of getting sick and have to be hospitalized.best wishes to you.

Call your doctor, perhaps he can put you on a high protein diet of solid food for a week. My doctor said if I couldn't tolerate the liquid pre-op diet that he would put me on the Atkins diet for 2 weeks. Fortunately I was able to tolerate the liquid diet, but my doctor did give me an alternative option.

1 Yr Bandiversary today!!!!
dawalsh replied to donna12's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations! -
Sorry got cut off. You'll be able to swallow most pills of reasonable size or cut them in half. I take a chewable multi vitamin daily but many people on this forum take the gummie vitamins. There are calories in the gummie vitamins and the chewable. Be sure to include them in your calorie count.

First a giant YES! Your stomach is swollen. Unless you take capsules you can crush your meds with a pill crusher until you can swallow better. You can mix it with some low calorie cranberry juice but eventually you'll be

You know, I have several acquaintances that I have not told about my surgery. However, my family knows. God forbid a serious complication comes along, you would want your family to know wouldn't you? I'm hoping your husband gives you the support you're going to need now that it's done. Unless you have serious complications that band is there forever. So don't hold anything back, you know the old saying - "love conquers all!"
