3 weeks Post-op, Hungry?
dawalsh replied to Rgreen99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 months post op and I'm still in bandster hell but with the help of my fitness pal I'm doing OK. I know that when I go for my fill in August I will be where I should be. My doctor is extremely conservative with fills. I don't want to be overfilled so I'm OK with that.i'm also glad that my surgeon does my fills so he is on top of any complications that might occur. -
Practical question - bending down after surgery
dawalsh replied to heather316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to do everything right away but it took me two weeks until a full recovery. I was just cautious bending over but every move I made was very helpful with my recovery. -

For the gas keep walking and move your arms a lot. It will help break up the gas. It took me a full two weeks to feel totally normal again. This too shall pass! -

It's not that bad, having multiple surgeries I would say the gas pain is the worst. Make sure you walk, walk and walk some more. If you feel like you want to cough just hold a pillow to your stomach. The best part is waking up in the recovery room and feeling like you've had a great sleep! Good luck!

I've been there only once in the 6 months I've been banded. It's a horrible feeling. I don't eat white rice for several years now because of that stuck feeling and it hurts my chest. I've only had PB episode and I don't want it to happen again. My problem is I'm not eating enough calories but it's more out of fear of PBing than anything else. My PCP feels I'm not losing fast enough but I'm still losing. I have not hit the green zone yet and hopefully I will with my next fill will be in August. I'm still counting calories and although a slow loser I'm still proud of my accomplishments.

I always love your stories Ms. 73. Whether you're a religious person or not God has you on this earth for a reason. I am truly motivated by your posts. I think that may be a reason that we are blessed with your knowledge and experience with the Lapband. Great job! -

Hi everybody, I've decided that a cruise is going to happen in either December (beginning) or February, what is your easier? I also want a conce Consensus if you want to make it a 4,5 or 7 day cruise. We will leave out of the Orlando area (pt canavdral) or the Miami area. I've got a motivational speaker lined up who also is a certified personal trainer. This person lost 80 lbs and knows what it's like to be in our shoes. Please click my name to leave me a personal message I will publish the full details as soon as plans are finalized. I want to clear this with our forum founder Alec. If anyone is interested please let me know by sending me a PM. You can PM Me by clicking my name on top.

What a tribute to the band! You gave a great visual with your pictures! You are a great advertisement for the Lapband with all those great pictures. Thank you for sharing! -
CONGRATULATIONS! I'm at a stall at 217. I so badly want to get to ONEderland in the worst way, sometimes I think I'm trying too hard to get that magical number. I haven't been in the one's since 1987! I was banded 12/28/12 and I'm down 50 lbs. I'm sure I've hit a plateau and need a kick start to get that scale moving down again. That's so awesome that you're in ONEderland!

Considered a BIG NSV for me!
dawalsh replied to Spaness2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is such an awesome victory! I'm still not comfortable with the roller coasters but I can remember when they couldn't put the safety bar down on Thubder Mountain Railroad at Disney. I was mortified but I now fit comfortably on that ride. That's about the tamest I go on a coaster lol. I live in FL and visit my surgeon in St Petersburg often. One if these days I'm going to get to Busch Gardens! -
Well, I see the infomercial all the time for the Lifestyle lift. It looks like it might work. I might consider that after Zi reach my goal.

Wow, a 5 year wait through the public system. I'm afraid that will be in America as well as our healthcare system is changing through what we call "Obamacare". Anyway, I appreciate self pay as my daughter just had gastric sleeve surgery yesterday. She was also self pay. In San Antonio, TX it was pretty reasonable. She paid $4500.00. Of course she has less follow up because she won't need fills with the sleeve surgery. I look forward to going back to Ireland again.

Great NSV's! Let's hear it for the "girls"! My only complaint was that my boobs were the first to go. I'm happy though to be in a smaller bra size.

Pain in my left shoulder
dawalsh replied to debpaige's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That my dear is gas, you must walk it off and walk and walk and walk. You can try some Gas-X to alleviate it but walking and moving your arms around as much as possible are going to be your ally, good luck! -
I must be insane, I still have an emotional attachment to all my clothes. Not having a lot of money I hang onto something until I literally can't wear it anymore. The one exception were the beautiful clothes I wore as mother of the bride and mother of the groom. I donated those to charity because I would never wear them again and I knew some plus size lady would appreciate them. I spent a lot of money on them and why have these gorgeous outfits just sit in the closet? Anyway, getting back to my emotional attachment, I will eventually get rid of them.most of my clothes are classic not fad styles and a lot of my clothes go back as far as 25 years old. It's time to move on, I know.

OK, so I started my pre-op on 12/14/12, my LB surgery was 12/28/12. I've lost a total of 45 lbs so far since 12/14/12. Well, I saw my PCP on Monday 5/6. I had not seen him since February 6th. The first words out of his mouth were, you only lost. 8 lbs. since I last saw you, that's not very much. I wanted to cry, here I am thinking wow, I've lost 45 lbs in 5 months, that's pretty good or so I thought. Mind you, my band is not working because my port flipped and I'm going for revision surgery, Fri., May 10th. Anyway, I was kind of feeling down because of my primary care physician's remarks. I have no feeling of restriction or the sweet spot since my port flipped. My surgeon said he will give me a fill on Friday after he corrects the port. Just curious, am I over reacting by my PCP's comments

All I can say is hang in there. I was banded on 12/28/12 and my PCP is very disappointed with my weight loss. My starting pre-op weight was 267. My weight yesterday was 222. So I'm 45 pounds down. My PCP feels I should be losing 10 lbs a month. He feels I should be 65-70 lbs. down now. I'm a slow loser, always have been. My surgeon is happy with my progress and I'm happy I'm losing weight no matter how slow it is. Due to my disability there are not a lot of exercises that I can do but I'm walking with my cane more and not using a mobility cart to get around in the stores. Hopefully the walking will help me lose a little more than a pound a week. So don't get frustrated it will happen as long as you stick to the plan. Good luck!

Reintroducing carbonation?
dawalsh replied to aviva1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no problem drinking diet soda in moderation. I let the bubbles settle down a bit before I drink it. My doctor said some people have absolutely no problem with it. So you have to test the waters on that one and be honest with your doctor. Tell your doctor of the addiction and ask him if you can settle on a happy medium.
