Lapband with plication added last week
dawalsh replied to Flylovesong's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm glad you were able to resolve your previous complications. Had I known about Lapband with plication I may have opted for it. I'm not sure my insurance would cover it as they still consider it experimental. My weight loss has slowed down but I've been unable to exercise for the last few days due to my arthritis. I used to take aspirin for the pain but aspirin is a no no with the Lapband. -
As far as I'm concerned it does not. The doctor sprays lidocaine in the area where he will inject the saline. Every person's tolerance for pain is different. You may feel a little discomfort but it should be OK. Also, I think you put this question in the wrong topic but being you asked I felt you deserved an answer.

You are most welcome here. This forum is like a family to me and I haven't been on this forum that long (my surgery was 12-28/12), but I started going to this forum pre-op and now it's like a second home to me. Again, welcome aboard!

Congratulations! I think I'm almost there. Iwl be eating then I get this sensation saying I've had enough but the head tells me to eat another bite. I usually try another bite and that's when I know - no more, I've had enough!

Should Be Getting Better - Right?!
dawalsh replied to RavenClaw779's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The only way to find out what"s wrong is to call your surgeon ASAP. If you can't see him right away go to the ER! Better to be safe than sorry! -
It's the same on the "sleeve talk" forum which my daughter is a member of. Unfortunately, you're going to get the good and bad of everything.

I've been the same route and I did buy a child's popcorn no butter and. I did drink a diet coke. My doctor has no problem with diet soda in moderation. Being 10 days post op I would not advise it for now. Carry sugar free hard candy to suck on during the movie. Also, bottled water is a good choice. It is a challenge with that popcorn smell however.

Awesome feat! Congratulations!

All right, I still don't see a weight loss on me personally but can this count as an NSV: I'n walking (yes walking, no mobility cart, yay!), I come across the lingerie section. I'm looking at bras and basically I could never get a strapless bra because I was a 46C. Well, I'n looking at the strapless bras because I have a halter sundress that I can't wear in public because let's face it, size 46C boobs jiggle. Well, I guess I'm losing weight even though I don't see it. My new bra size is 42C! It's always the boobs that go first lol. Oh, and I was able to wear a short sleeve button down shirt that I couldn't get passed my elbow before. So my question ladies is this, what did you notice on your body that you lost weight in first. For me it was the boobs lol!

Please don't feel discouraged. That's a game insurance companies play. I have everything wrong with me and it was medically necessary but I was denied the first time and my BMI was 39. It went on appeal and I was approved. Hang in there!

Congratulations on such a magnificent feat!

I'm a very slow loser and ALWAYS have been. A good weight loss average with the band is 1-2 pounds a week.frustrating? Yes, but if you lose a pound a week that's 52 lbs per year and that is phenomenol!

5 Days post op Bloat????
dawalsh replied to Kimmipuff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In answer to your question is this no? Well, yes and no. Everyone feels different but what you describe happened to me so I can say, yes that is normal but not everybody experiences the same thing. Good luck to you. -
Beginning to seriously consider getting banded and doing some research
dawalsh replied to jktefft's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with everything Ms73 said and to me it is not just a Lapland but a "LIFE" band! It's good you're doing your research because the Lapland will be a life alerting event. Personally the lap and is my life saver. -
What does it feel like
dawalsh replied to txsonicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spent 9 days with cellulitis in the hospital because I developed a full body rash from the meds they were giving me. They gave me cortisone and it helped finally. Otherwise, they were going to transfer me to a hospital 150 miles away. Just be careful and make sure they document everything, -
If you could give 1 piece of Pre-op advice, what would it be?
dawalsh replied to girlgetsLB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do not gorge yourself before you start your pre-op diet like there is no tomorrow. Eat sensibly because with the Lapland it is behavior modification so start with good choices. If you're on a pre-op shake diet, ask your diet what you can supplement on your diet food wise if you're still hungry. This is the beginning of a whole new life. -
Food Issues with the band need help!
dawalsh replied to Lee Lewis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I can't add anymore than what has been said already. However, sweet tea is just regular soda without carbonization. That as you must know is very empty calories! My son is a big regular soda drinker. He could guzzle down 3 glasses before the meal arrives. Free refills can be a curse is there anyway you can get unsweetened tea and sweeten it with Splenda? I hope you have broken the Mickey D habit because the temptation is too great. Good luck!. -
Banded Saturday. Should I be feeling this bad?
dawalsh replied to Amberley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds pretty normal to me. -
Feel free to write me as well, I'm a Dec 2012 banister as well. My e-mail is Dawalsh2@aol.com

Guy, What does your Mediterranean diet consist of? Just curious as I've been on Atkins and South Beach both. I had temporary success with both diets but I want to keep my weight off forever this time if I can help it.
-
Well, I leave for San Antonio in the morning but I'll be back in GA in a couple of months. Good luck to you.

I'm a lost bandster....
dawalsh replied to butterflymackey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm not going to lecture you on the evils of smoking but I gave up smoking 30 yrs ago cold turkey and I was up to two packs a day. It wasn't even health at the time I was worried about. They cost $1.25 a pack which was $2.50 a day which was $17.50 a week which was $910.00 annually which was almost $1,000. I started saving what I was spending on cigarettes and was able to take a nice vacation after a couple of years. I heard cigarettes are at least $8.00 a pack where I used to live in NY. OMG that's $56 a week! That's almost $3,000 a year! Wow, so if not for your health do it for financial reasons. Ms.73 got it right, choose healthy snacks and take time to prepare a snack or meal, get rid of the slider foods. OMG, if I had tortilla chips in the house I wouldn't be able to stop so I choose not to buy anything that is detrimental to me. I was asked to bring a covered dish two weeks ago. Normally, I would bring my lasagna or some other Italian baked dish. I chose to make a Greek salad with dressing on the side. If not for yourself (which you should be número UNO right now) do it for your family. They need you and for heaven sakes, go back to school and get your nursing degree! You're worth it! God bless and good luck! -
Well, due to my disability it is very difficult to do strenuous exercise so it is a slow process for me to lose weight at a higher pace. I am walking with a cane and not using a mobility cart for shopping which has improved my weight loss but not significantly. Like Guy said it's about 80% diet and 20% exercise.
