Well, just came from my PCP's office and I am a fuming!!! He just informed me that he considers my weight loss surgery a miserable failure and he's not going to recommend it to anyone else. I've been hovering between 216/217 For the last few days. Well, I didn't take my normal water pill that I take daily because I don't like to take it until 'm home and near the bathroom. Anyhow, I weighed 220 on his scale this morning which of course I was upset over as well. I was OK until he called me a failure at this WLS and he also said it's ridiculous if you have to keep going for fills and you're still not losing fast enough. Well, I had enough of his negative talk and blasted back that I am not a failure and considering when I first saw him many years ago I was 289. I started my lapband journey at 267 on 12/28/12. I said I've still lost weight and that is what counts. Last time I saw him 3 months ago I wanted to cry because he felt I had not lost weight fast enough (at that point I was down 37 lbs. according to his scale I'm ONLY down 47 lbs and that's not good enough. I should be losing 2 lbs a week, every week according to Dr. "DOOM"! Anyway, I didn't feel like crying this time. This time I wanted to scratch his eyes out. I've still lost 10 lbs in a 12 week period. I still haven't taken my water pill yet but taking that pill makes me lose 4 lbs like in a 12 hr period. Hey, I'm proud of my weight loss and I'm not going to let anyone steal my thunder especially my PCP! I've had many NSV's as well like fitting in smaller clothing, being able to walk more in the stores, etc . If my PCP knew how serious I am with my calories etc., maybe he'd get rid of that negative attitude of his. As far as I'm concerned my PCP is the failure! Not me! I'm still fuming but I'll calm down after awhile. They say 3 strikes and your out. Well, considering the fact he's not a BARIATRIC doctor, I'm giving him one more chance. In Nov. I'll have my 3rd visit with my PCP, if he so much as suggests I'm a failure again, that will be my last visit with him. I already have a new PCP in mind and he's about a mile from my house so I could walk there Just letting everyone considering the lapband, that I love my my band! I may be a slow loser but at least I'm losing. Don't let any doctor talk you out of it. I think all PCP's should all take a course in bariatric medicine before they judge anyone.

Let me get this right...some of you drink soda? Whoa!!!
dawalsh replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have an occasional Diet Cole or Diet Pepsi. I have to with until the carbonation is out fizzed a bit before I can drink it. Very rare I finish a whole diet soda. Taking a few sips and I'm happy. -
I'm inclined to agree with your nutritionist. I've been banded since December. I was an overnight patient. I was given straws to take my Clear liquids with. Taking gulps would have been hard on my swollen stomach. My doctor is not against Carbonation either but in very small amounts. I guess drinking too much fizzy drinks could dialate the pouch.

All I can say is wow! My highest weight was 289 before pre-op. I got down to 267 when my Lapband journey started. I'm down to 215. Waiting patiently to get to ONEderland. I'm at a plateau and I just increased my calories by 200 extra per day temporarily. I'm hoping that will get my weight off. Then hopefully I'll look as good as you!

Such an Amazing Group of People!

Thanks! I agree! We're like one big family! The good comments far outweigh the bad comments and every once in awhile there is a troll who wants to badmouth the band but they are few and far between. I love this forum because it helps keep me accountable and I've learned so much reading all the threads. Good to have you onboard as part of our lapband family! -
feeling better each day . . . finally!

Story Apart - A Different Journey to Lap Band (Hernia Repair)
dawalsh replied to tigers1998's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for sharing your incredible story! There is a solution to every problem. In your case it took 33 yrs! Congratulations and good luck! -
Love it! Congratulations!

Yes, you can do it on your own but when I lost my husband (I was in my mid 30's), I gained 70 lbs. it was psychological. I felt like I had to eat because there may be no tomorrow. Of course I'm better as the years went by but I needed the band because nothing else was working for me. So glad I got the band!

Good luck!

I wish you success on your lapband journey. If I could have kept the weight off through Weight Watchers alone I wouldn't be here. I'm doing better with the lapband than any other type of weight loss method. My health is improving everyday since being banded.

Calling all lap band veterans!
dawalsh replied to Heathermarie0407's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I have absolutely no problem drinking a dirty gin martini, in fact, I had one today. That being said however, I only drink occasionally and it's in a social setting usually. A Margarita however has ALWAYS given me heartburn. I try to avoid them like the plague. It's too bad because I really do like margaritas. They just don't like me. As far as liquid Motrin is concerned ask your doctor first. I know Guy has no problem with it but my doctor said absolutely no NSAIDS! I used to use aspirin for my arthritis but don't anymorej. Aspirin always helped me but it's been rough since I'm off aspirin. I'm hoping as I lose more weight that I'll have less pain on my joints. Hope you feel better. -

It all depends on your BMI. How tall are you? A low BMI would be considered like 30 for WLS. So you have to ask your doctor and you have to have a condition such as diabetes or sleep apnea. If it's just for vanity reasons you probably would not qualify through insurance but if you have a threatening health condition you might. I'm 5'8" tall. And would love to weigh 185! I was 178 lbs when I got married way back in the 70's so I've always had a weight problem. I would not have qualified for WLS if I only weighed 178. I was 267 when I started my surgery. The highest weight I ever was is 289 lbs. I'm now between 215-216. I qualified because of my health problems. My insurance turned me down the first time because they said weight loss surgery was considered cosmetic according to their guidelines. I had to have at least two co-morbidities to qualify. I had several health issues so I qualified on the second try with my new insurance. -
No one knows but my immediate family. Friends are noticing my gradual weight loss. I just tell people I'm writing down everything I'm eating and I'm more aware of what I'm eating. Technically, I am watching everything I eat and always have. It's just a bit easier since being banded.

Awesome! Good going girl! Keep up the good work! -
Wow, what a bummer! Where are you located? Is there a place that will let you pay it off? Best of luck to you!

Hi, I used a corset for back surgery and it helped but I wouldn't use it on newly banded surger. The pressure would be too much on your port. You don't want to disturb your port post surgery. You should really ask your surgeon however. I had to wear loose clothing post op for the first couple of weeks with no pressure on the port.

I'm convinced that if we didn't get in a rut occasionally we wouldn't be normal. It's like newlyweds on their honeymoon and everything seems perfect. Well, the honeymoon eventually ends. It's the same with the band, the honeymoon is over and we tend to get lax. Well, good for you for giving yourself a fresh start! Good luck with your second honeymoon !
