What Missy said is spot on. Counseling is more advisable in a situation such as yours. Lapband is major surgery and not a simple fix. I would be extremely surprised if a bariatric surgeon with ethics would take you on as a patient. I hope you find what you're looking for but honestly I don't think weight loss surgery is the answer for you. Please realize I am not a doctor and this is my own personal opinion. Good luck to you.

December 2012 --- Band Buddies Unite!
dawalsh replied to LadyLeigh2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, it will be 8 months on the 28th. Have hit a plteau at a loss of 55 lbs lost. I feel better but I've got another 55 to go before I start maintaining that weight. It's a little frustrating as I still have not hit the green zone but still count my calories. I am a slow loser, always have been. I'll know the band is working when I finally hit ONEderland lol, I'm trying my best and still believe the band is a great tool for weight loss. -

I've been fortunate. I have not been losing any hair yet. Did your nutritionist mention a vitamin deficiency perhaps? What vitamins are you using?

Will taking the extra skin off help you to reach goal? You look fabulous the way you are now! If you're doctor says you can do it now go for it! However, my own personal opinion is I think you look great the way you are!

Fought with someone .. having stomach pain.. Anyone else? Help
dawalsh replied to aug13hereIcome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you read through these threads you'll see band related symptoms due to stress. Many people complain of the band being too tight due to stress. Then after a fees days they're fine. The fast that you were still healing due to internal swelling as well as incision healing it's no wonder you were in pain! Stress can affect every part of our body just as the weather affects our bodies. Damp weather affects my osteoarthritis in the worst way that sometimes I cry. Since banding I can no longer take NSAIDs. If the weather is damp, I suffer. If I GET STRESSED OUT FROM AN ARGUMENT I feel my insides tightening so I try and relax as much as possible.congrats on your weight loss! -
Are my scales broken or do I need glasses????

Fantastic! I've hit a plateau and I'm waiting for that aha moment! -
I'm confused, will they treat you if you got your band in the US or Mexico!

No, but I'm a proud Pflag mom and I wish my youngest son would qualify for lapband surgery. Alas, his insurance won't cover it. My oldest son is also gay but he's into weightlifting and cannot relate to his Brother's weight problems. My oldest son and his partner find it very easy to lose weight and they feel my youngest shouldn't have any problem losing weight.

First off, I think you have accomplished a great feat with that awesome weight loss since May, Secondly, you seem to be doing everything right. You seem to be at the green zone but it doesn't last forever. You'll sort of know when you're out of the green zone. I've been banded since Dec and still have not gotten to green. You will still have to go for fills but less frequently than you did in the beginning and that will be an ongoing thing. Your surgeon may require quarterly visits instead of monthly visits. Whatever you do, don't stop going to your surgeon all together that's when failure is bound to happen. Too many people get to the green zone and stop seeing their surgeon all together. Then they have a weight gain and say they're going back to the doctor because they are gaining weight. So keep in touch with your doctor and you are sure to keep losing weight and keeping it off.

Good luck to you and keep us posted with your progress. We're one big happy family here! -
Honey, you're talking to the coffee connesieur (sp?)here lol! When my doctor's nurse asked me how I did on the pre-op diet I said fine but I could not give up my morning coffee with half and half and Splenda in it she said well you can have coffee just don't overdo it. I said if I can at least have my morning coffee I was fine. I've had coffee everyday. With no problems and it's always high octane! The chemical they use to decaffeinated coffee gives me severe heartburn, always did. My doctor's office all know that's the one thing I refuse to give up. Instead of 4or 5 cups a day I usually only have one cup with 2 tablespoons of half and half (yes I measure out my half and half) and I'm not cranky for the whole day lol. I love coffee more than a dessert believe or not.

It will be over before you know it! Happy banding to you and don't worry, you'll do fine!

Post-Band Eating Question
dawalsh replied to Bandista's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have absolutely no problem adjusting to any social situation. If it's in a restaurant I portion. Out what I can eat and ask for a take out container right away. If I go to a partyI'll take a taste of this or that and incorporate it into my calorie count. If I get samples from Sam's I always ask to see the nutritional label so I can add those calories in my count. I use an app called my fitness pal and I log the calories right then and there. There are a lot of good apps that keep you accountable and you'll be able to adjust to any situation involving eating. Let's face it, you can stop drinking alcohol but you can't totally stop eating. We need nourishment to survive. Before you know it your new eating habits will become second nature to you. Good luck! -
Wishing you all well on your upcoming surgeries.

Good for you! Happy losing! -
Hi there! 10 lbs is awesome! Never be embarassed about your weight loss. Until you're in the green zone which may take several fills don't expect a large weight loss. Just keep following the rules for your lapband and always, always go for your fills at the appointed times. Let's face it, that's how we got here in the first place (being too embarassed to go for a weigh in). Good luck to you, you're doing awesome!

I've lost over 55 lbs in 8 months.i'm a slow loser according to my primary care physician. He is not happy with my weight loss at all. I'm thrilled because it may be slow but it's going down. I keep telling myself slow and steady wins the race.
