Week 3 post op and starving!
Jona8698 replied to cgcsweetpea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They want to wait for the swelling to go down before giving a fill:) -
It does not hurt at all. If you are afraid of needles, as I am, do NOT look. Other wise it is less irritation than a flu shot and your in and out in less than 3 minutes. It really is no big deal:)
-
Call the office. They will have an answering service and someone will call you back. My doctor said always call them before going to an emergency room. If they feel its necessary to go, they will meet you there.

My goal size was more relevant to my than weight. I wanted to get to a stable 145 to 150 and be in a size 8. Both are achieved. I only had protein shakes for the preop. I don't care for sweets so I only have food I can chew now. A lot of protein:)

My insurance required all of that as well, but I was required to see the nutritionist once a month for 4 months as the teach you how you will have to live, think, and eat with the band. This appointment will likely be a final consult before they submit all the paper work to insurance. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for approval. Be prepared for another 4 weeks for surgery. Your surgeon won't put you on their schedule until you have been approved. Most are a month or so out on their bookings. I had your basic stats when I started and hit my goal weight 2 weeks ago (7 months post op). Best of luck.

Good luck!! My surgeon is out of FW. I was banded in August.

You will know the green zone. If your asking, you are not in it. I feel really tight for a week though and then great. I only go every 3 months now. You have to get your calories in. If you can't do that then you may want a little taken out.

Protein!! Eat that first before anything else. I make sure to eat chicken or fish daily. I love morning star vegan sausage patties for breakfast. I have an egg, cheese, or peanuts for snack. Good luck!

How Much Do You Weigh Yourself?
Jona8698 replied to sunnysweety's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh every morning. I don't worry unless I have more than a 3lbs gain that doesn't go down in a day or two. -
surgery was almost 4 wks ago

It took my 3 months to not be bothered. -
Has my gall bladder removed same day as my band was put in. Recovery sucked. I'm happy it is out because a lot of people have to have it removed after the surgery. No complications:)

Try premier. The chocolate is good. Vanilla, not so much. You can get them at SAMs or Costco.

Three month mark and lost 42 pounds!!

Great work!!! My doctor says no carbonation at all. It can ruin the band. I put mio liquid in my water to make it taste better. I can't swallow well until I have been up for 2 hours. I do take musinex before bed a few days a week and that helps. Good luck. -
I had the iband in TX. It is still in trial, but my insurance did cover it. I have lost more inches than weight for sure. I have had zero complications (6 months in).

No longer feeling out of control/ ready to move on...
Jona8698 replied to NYC1992's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't get discouraged. The liquid diet is in place so your liver and other organs will be as small as possible. It's not a deal breaker to have a little hic up. You want to eat now because of the obsession with food. It does get better after surgery. I will tell you that until you have had 3 fills, you will probably feel like you can eat more than your allowed. You have to be strict. Then after the 3rd fill you will most likely have restriction. Best of luck to you! -
Put ice packs on the area that itches. That is a sign of healing I believe.

The pain in the side near port will subside as you heal but I was very tender for 6 weeks. I could not sleep on that side until month 3. Now I don't even know its there. I'm at month 6 this week. Best of luck!

First Fill In A Couple Weeks..QUESTION!!
Jona8698 replied to ashchap13's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You need to get to at least the 3rd fill to feel any restrictions. Go slow and follow the rules now. It's tough but it will help once the restrictions kick in. Right now you are still swollen and healing. The fills are based on how much swelling and weight loss you have. Patience for the first 2 months is key. -
Stay away from rice and bread. Both continue to expand after you swallow. Stay calm and don't drink. It should pass in about 2 hours.
-
You will feel like your dieting until 3 to 4 fills. I am feeling great at 5 but felt good after 3. I have to eat slow and not get to a full feeling. You will regret it if you go that far. Eating protein is a key to weight loss.
