Hair loss and now gallstones:( Yikes!
Xath101 replied to escott37's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wife had gallstones and pancreatitis!! She had antibiotic drip, ducts cleaned out and gallbladder removed. I guess there is a trend developing. 911 to hospital discharge was 5 days. -
My wife has had no prior history, and has low cholesterol. However, I do drink more Water than her if it is related. The doctors say that the gallbladder removal is a relatively common procedure. In fact his (the doctor's himself) was removed years ago.

Gallbladder attacks range, but can be very intense, scary and painful. My wife is actually in the hospital now after calling 911. Chest pain and vomiting like a heart attack ended up being a gallbladder stone and infection!! Fear of it spreading to liver and pancreas is cause immediate surgery for removal.

I had my surgery last Friday (2/15/13) and while in the hospital recovering they want you to urinate though I had no urge. My attempt was voluminously successful. The nurse said that this was a common side affect to Anesthesia. I also mentioned it to the doctor the next day who agreed. I am on day 5 and still no bladder sensation or feeling, so I am counting ounces to tell me when to urinate. Anyone else experience this?

Day 9: still no bladder feeling, but I have blood flow! Life is worth living thinner now. LOL

Wow! I am craving very specific food with great detail. (i.e: Olive & Canadian Bacon Calzone from Lampost; Eggs Benedict from the Hyatt; etc...). However, I am still on a liquid diet. I was thinking that this is psychological. Perhaps "Taste Memories" are meshing with cravings? Anyway, my plan is to find super yummy substitutions that are healthier.

Bread...Why did I do it? :(

I am sooo glad to read this. The goal is to lose weight, but being human with cravings is difficult. I am only Day 8 wanting a Breakfast panini with bacon. Didn't have one but maybe by month 2+, I can have a 1/3 of one?! -
How do you know when to go?

Head Hunger... Makes sense. I had no idea how strong these feelings can be. Now I want a Panini Breakfast Sandwich with yummy bacon. (I said about 12 other craving through out the day) Curious: Has anyone chewed anything and spit it out?

New Sleever, Excited and Terrified
Xath101 replied to Hopeful in Rochester's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My wife and I both had the surgery this month. I was very worried and had anxiety. Here is my Two Cents: 1) Ask your doctor/surgeon for a referral from someone that had it done by them. Call and ask questions. 2) Know that the sacrifice is worth the means. It is "tough" and makes you disciplined starting a week before surgery. However, by 4/5/13 you will be feeling much better and likely 15%+\- lighter continuing further weight loss. 3) Medication and Water become your friend. I was actually offered a relaxer prior to surgery. Hind sight: the I.V. was the greatest pain at the hospital; Trapped Gas thereafter. Sorry for the verbose response, but I hope this helps. -
My surgery was 2/15... I am on Day 8. Day 4 was my worst day. My Two Cents: Keep your mind occupied; Drink water (and remember sips at night); Mild exercise and let out lagging gases! Hang in there buddy.

No catheter was used per doctor and I have not taken codeine for 2-3 days. However I did hear that anesthesia can last up to two plus weeks. I need to be patient, I guess. Thank you all for your posts.

Needed a boost - 5 weeks post op

That is awesome. -
SassyGirl: Oh I really hope you are right! Bad news with Internet research is that even doctors have conflicting posts. As far as I know, no catheter was used. I am a male with no bladder urges and no penis blood flow post-op. (Worried). Hopefully they can give me a prescription or something.

Thank you Mystie: I will post what they say.

Well Mystie: Doctor's office instructed me to discontinue pain reliever and start Flowmax immediately. My follow up appointment is tomorrow, but my concern is that the surgeon snipped my nerves there. (Hopefully this is just inflammation). I should know in the next day or two.

God bless you. Who and where was the surgeon? Any other complications? Did you see an attorney for legal advice?
