Eating too much!
Chris_tina83 replied to Mizz_Megan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One week post op I wasn't hungry at all most the time and lost 6lbs, the following week I had no restriction at all and gained 3lbs. I started drinking protein shakes again at breakfast, and sometimes for lunch (but not always) with a normal meal at dinner, and started walking. Did a lot of walking that week and I lost 9lbs in one week. I weigh myself weekly. So I make sure I get my walks in for the week because if I don't I feel like I'm gonna gain weight lol.. I don't eat what I'm suppose to either. Portion sizes I mean. But I do eat healthy. I am 3 weeks post op and definitely have no restriction, but I can go hours before feeling hungry again. Sometimes I'll eat dinner and in an hour my stomach starts growling, but I know I'm not hungry, so I don't eat, I just drink, drink and drink and it goes away. As long as you're eating healthy and getting exercise in, I'm sure you'll lose. That's what I'm doing. Everyone is different tho..but you should give it a try. I usually walk (fast paced) for 30-45 minutes a day..I had my post op appt on Friday and asked when I'll be getting a fill, and he told me 4-5 weeks, my mouth just dropped! Lol that's 7-8 weeks post op..but I think I'm doing ok without the fill, but as long as I get my walking in. I usually get satisfied/full with 1 1/2 to 2 cups of food, with the exception of a salad, I can eat a pretty big salad . You'll be ok, just stick to your protein and veggies. Do you by any chance count your calories? I feel that has been a BIG part of my success so far, to be able to keep track of my caloric intake.. -

Had my post op appt today, and I'm 3 weeks post op exactly. I've lost 35lbs since the day of my seminar. I was banded April 26. First week post op I lost 6 lbs, second week I gained 3, third week I lost 9..starting weight 301, current 267. I'm totally proud of myself for losing as much as I have, but the last 2 weeks have been all willpower!! I lost any kind of restriction I had on the second week (hence the 3lbs gain) so I put myself on protein shakes again for breakfast, don't eat lunch most days because I'm asleep (I work graveyard) and have a normal dinner. But I started speed walking every day and using an exercise bike at work for 30 minutes, and that's how I lost the 9lbs.. I asked my doc when I'll be able to have a fill, since I have no restriction, he said 4-5 weeks!! My mouth dropped! I don't know if I have that much willpower left in me!! Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna try my hardest, but I was hoping for next week, or even the following week..

Thank you bubba!! Been walking every day, but band feels the same, no tightness for me yet

I don't think I'm in bandster hell. Or maybe I don't know the meaning of it. I'm not hungry between meals. Although, I eat a bit more than just one cup of food. I'm eating super healthy, just more than what it says I should be eating, like a cup of food (sometimes 2) and a small salad, or steamed vegetables..but I don't know how I'd do if I had a meal three times a day, which is why I take my protein shake for breakfast, and sometimes when I wake up at 3, then a regular meal around 9pm because these shakes sure keep me full for quite a while.. but I only do that when I know I'm not gonna have time to do any type of exercise..but I've been consistent so far, so we'll see how it goes. If I lose the 1-2 lbs a week, I'll stick to what I'm doing, if I don't, or ever gain, I'll definitely be calling my doc for a fill..but this experience has be great so far!!

Back to work/school after surgery?
Chris_tina83 replied to rbmk14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got six days off from work. But I could have went back on the 4th. The first 3 days (for me) were not painful, but uncomfortable. I didn't get any gas pains, so I was lucky on that part. Took pain Meds for one day (found out I was allergic to codeine that day lol) good thing I didn't need pain Meds much every one has a different experience tho. The pain, for me, was very tolerable..I really hope you have a speedy recovery with not much pain. But like I said, everyone is different. You might want to ask for maybe Monday and Tuesday off just to be on the safe side..a couple of classes is better than a whole week if you really can't miss.. -

Seeking info about Anthem Blue Cross *** Insurance
Chris_tina83 replied to Megbd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I also have anthem blue cross. I spoke to my PCP about the lap band, and she told me I'd have to see her for months before I could get approved. I went to a seminar anyway and they checked my insurance and whatnot and told me it covered. I never went back to my PCP. I didn't need a letter or anything from her. My seminar was March 1st and I was banded April 26th. My BMI was 45, with no other issues, diabetes, high blood pressure etc..having a BMI 40 or more is really all it takes, in most cases and with insurances.. -
Best Protein Shakes?
Chris_tina83 replied to rbmk14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the vanilla premier protein from Costco. I've never tried the chocolate one. I don't like to drink it by itself, so I add different fruits to it every morning. Strawberries, blueberries, banana, etc. it has 160 calories, 1g of fat and 30g of protein..my smoothies keep me full for 4-5 hours -

I didn't have a BM till a week post op, I don't want to scare you, but I had the most horrible experience when I did go..I wasn't allowed to take any fiber of any kind. So if you're allowed to, take it!! Even if you're still on liquids..I'd rather have a runny BM than go through what I went through.. -
I didn't drink much of anything the first 3 days. I didn't have an appetite either. By the 4th day I was drinking more..just keep that water bottle(or cup) in your hand and take little sips. Good luck on your journey!

I was on Clear Liquids for 3 days, 2 of the days really didn't count cause I was not hungry at all and I slept most the time. Was on purées on the 4th day..every surgeon has their own directions on what and when you can eat, I'm on soft foods now. 3 days clear liquids 1 week purées 2 weeks soft foods, then regulars. I'm sure you'll be ok. As long as you follow what YOUR doc tells you. best wishes on your journey!!

My BMI was over 40 too, but I'm as healthy as can be. I was approved right away also. Seminar day was March 1, surgery day April 26..I have anthem blue cross..

Haven't really been posting much, but just wanted everyone to know I'm finally on the other side. Banded 4/26, so 9 days post op. I feel fantastic! One day of pain Meds, and no gas pains! I feel lucky lol I'm currently on soft foods and everything is going amazingly. The first day I scolded myself for doing this to myself lol but as I got better I knew this was the right choice! Can't wait till I'm able to get some jogging in and lift things, post op appt is on the 17 of May..

I lost 12 -
If you have the pre-made kind (vanilla preferably) add a few frozen strawberries or any kind of frozen fruit you may like and you'll have yourself a smoothie. Very delicious and very filling i can go 5 plus hours before another shake good luck!! Today is my last day of pre-op, surgery is tomorrow!! Yay!
