Need suggestions of Puree foods for Puree Diet
Frederic replied to MysticalSoulss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Having worked with people on purée diets professionally my primary advice would be "don't purée your food" focus on foods that have a purée consistency naturally. Cream soups, mashed potatoes flavored/smoothed with broth instead of water or milk; cream of wheat, yogurt. Heck if you like spaghetti try a bowl of your favorite spaghettit sauce just eat it like soup. -
so frustrated 4 weeks post op

As long as your stomach didn't prolapse it's pretty elastic, 1 incident shouldn't be a huge deal but watch for signs the band isn't working and be sure to tell your surgeon anything you notice. -
Actually Caffeine (like most stimulants) is an appetite suppressant the problem is that it's a diuretic so it dehydrates you which slows your metabolism. I'm always mystified by coke soothing people's stomachs since it's actually highly acidic (that's why it works great for cleaning car batteries) but I know several people who swear by it.

I was told to stop 5 minutes before and wait til 30 minutes after. The reason to stop before is important during post op to make sure you don't feel full before you get your Protein eaten. The wait is so your brain fully registers your satiated; making it less likely you'll be hungry sooner. It's true Water will flow easily but the hole for the band is only so big and your digestive track only applies south pressure think of a sink drain. Big hole means fast drain small hole means slower drain. Right after surgery the swelling means it's a pretty small hole.

Speaking as a purely amateur chemist with a zany theory. I would suspect the issue with yogurt is how it's consistency is affected by your stomach's unique digestive bath. Even though pudding is the same consistency as yogurt outside your body it's Protein chains are much different pudding liquifies almost instantly in your stomach where as yogurt stays thick longer if you have weaker stomach acid that thicker yogurt might as well be a lump of glue that not only resists passing the band but also stops the natural exchange of fluids through the band. Adding kashi or blending the yogurt keeps the yogurt from lumping together so it breaks down more easily for some but possibly still not enough for everyone. Like I said pure hypothesis.

If you check with your local museums (both historical and art) and galleries they often have special events in the evening. You can also look into taking some classes together or doing something active like golf (full size or put put) or bowling. And of course there's always sporting events if there is something both of you enjoy watching.

I am going nuts right now. I'm all ready for surgery on Thursday and now a snowpocalypse is looming for the 18 hrs before and after. After a winter with minimal snow apparently it's all gonna dump on my town just in time to interfere with getting to and from the hospital. I've already called to make sure it wouldn't cost extra to postpone but it will be a nightmare to carve alternate recovery time from my work schedule. I'm just filled with impotent rage right now it's as if the universe is saying "I don't care how ready you are I am still fully prepared to stop you from moving forward" I know it's silly and I need to just roll with whatever happens but I needed to vent.

Over a foot accumulation with 3 ft drifts on our road. They didn't clear our road until early this morning.

The good news is I just got called and my Surgery has been rescheduled to the 28th. Hopefully 2 days off my pre-op diet out of 21 won't have done too much damage.
-
Well my surgery just got rescheduled back into February on the 28th, Hopefully 2 days off the liquid diet didn't expand and slime up my liver too much,
-
The not knowing was driving me nuts so I just rescheduled for 3 weeks from now. My surgeon told me to go off the pre-op diet for a week so I made some less than steller food choices after that (opting for things I won't be able to have while on the recovery diet) but still managed to stay under my calorie goal at least. I live as close as any of the hotels the real issue is the poorly conceived snow clearance plan for our city.

I'm in Nebraska where the weather is nice except when it's terrible. 2 days ago it was in the 50s today it's single digits.
-
I just got postponed to March 14th because of weather conditions for tomorrow.
-
So I just called to reschedule my surgery the newspaper just printed the snow removal plan and if I'm lucky they'll get to my house 12 hrs after my surgery time probably closer to 18. If I can't reschedule to sometime next week it will probably be months before I can carve another week out of schedule for recovery. I'm so angry I want to just throw things and start yelling. I need to center myself before I start taking it out on my coworkers.

Portion Size
Frederic replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My understanding is this. The band serves 2 purposes It creates a smaller passageway for the food we eat slowing the time it takes food to pass and it creates a pouch near our satiation receptors. Food can easily enter the pouch but leaves it slowly so we feel full sooner. The pouch is normally placed to provide 1 tablespoon of capacity but will naturally stretch to be approx. 1 cup and still be effective. The more and faster we eat the more the pouch stretches until eventually we expand the pouch to be as large as the whole stomach was originally. Our dietary guidelines may vary but they ultimately serve the same purpose teaching us to eat slower and use smaller portions so the pouch can tell us we're full before we over stretch it. -
The hospital is less than 2 miles away so I could walk it easily if it wasn't record cold temperatures and I wouldn't literally have to cross 2 cornfields. The fact the hospital is so close is what will be so frutstrating. SInce I live in a rural area even if there are only 6 inches we could have 3 ft high drifts let alone the 2 ft their currently predicting. Ironically these situations are why I want a jeep. My truck would probably make the trip but my wife is not as comfortable driving it and she's the one who will have to drive me home while the snow is theoretically still flying. My hope is that the temperature drops enough that the snow doesn't start to fall heavily until after I'm home.

I'm Fredrigo on My Fitness Pal. Feel free to send me a friend request I'd send you one but I'm on my phone right now.

My wife knows about my surgery but I can't say she's very supportive. Even now on the pre-diet she's obsessing about how I'm making her "feel like a pig" which is ridiculous I'm a diabetic whose been heavy literally since birth and she runs marathons and logs almost 100% above average for women her age on her Nike fuel band everyday. The two of us obviously have different metabolisms. It boils down to "I've decided this is something I have to do.". Hopefully your wife will eventually realize as scared as she may be this isn't about her.

That means you started a the same weight as me and ave the same target weight as me which I assume means we're the same height (6ft). If you don't mind I'd really appreciate talking to you about things like your exercise level before and after the surgery as well as how much loose skin you're dealing with.
-
The only reason I didn't have to do the 6 month wait was apparently since I've seen my Dr a minimum of once very 3 months for the last 6 years and my weight was monitored the whole time for my diabetes and blood pressure.
-
So I'm not a real runner by any means but I like to alternate running and walking in 6 minute intervals currently (so I can get 2 miles done in half an hour usually) How soon after surgery were people who do run able to resume it or start. My surgeon is saying 6 weeks but at the same time he seemed a bit surprised by the question so I assume I was the first patient to ask (or possibly just the first patient my size to ask).
-
Actually my fear is that 6 weeks of just walking will set my meager running habit back. It took a year to build up the muscles to handlle the 6 minute bursts as it is. I'll do as instructed by my surgeon I was just wondering about other people's experiences.
-
I totally understand that. My Surgeon has me drinking up to 2 protien drinks a day and then a normal dinner. I'm not hungry, I'm averaging 750 calories day, meeting my protien goals, and I'm losing weight but I keep thinking "am I doing this wrong?" I'm also thinking I've looked at too many different post op diets before my surgeon actually gave me mine. I keep telling my self "when you find a good mechanic you trust them to keep your car running once you've found a surgeon you trust you should trust them at least the same amount."
-
I am amazed by how different our pre-op diets are. I've seen everything from strict liquid portioning to "my surgeon said not to worry about it". On one hand I'm glad to see we're all getting individualized care on the other hand it boggles the mind how different we all are.

Seriously Embarrassed !
Frederic replied to Destined*Lady*D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've broken so much furniture at friends homes I started buying chairs and such for me to sit on at their houses. When new friends first join our group sometimes they're perplexed why no matter where we meet there's a chair that is designated as "Fred's" chair even though no one else (including the host) has "assigned" seating.
