Hmmm I'm trying to add you all by username using my iphone app but it doesn't give me the option. It asks for email addresses. Am I doing something wrong? -

I am finding that while my surgery gas has subsided, everytime I have anything to drink (still on full liquids) I get the shoulder gas pain. It then goes away in about an hour. Is this normal?

Hi, I was banded June 7 (last Friday) and yesterday had to have an emergency defill of the 3cc primer that was put in during surgery. Doctor said this happens to 5% of his patients and that I couldn't tolerate it and my insides were probably inflamed and swollen. That day I had woken up and after my Breakfast drink I felt that "stuck" feeling and couldn't even take in tiny sips of Water after that. I even started to vomit foam! Soon enough I couldn't breath and my doc told me to meet him at emerg. Some people have said maybe I'll be one of those people that don't need a lot of fills? Although I'm SO happy to be feeling better, I'm bummed that I "lost" the 3cc. Anyone else experience this? Any comments to share?

Thanks for your support Scorpio Girl. Why is that?

My brain knows that but I am a little bummed because (and although I can't confirm it) I am imagining that "bandster hell" will be worse. I know you're right, I'm just sad.

Emergency defill?

Oh Wow! I have never heard of that! Doesn't that mean they have to remove it entirely?? -

Thanks for your support bryanthebigguy. How did it feel after your first fill? -

I couldn't agree more. Even though the band is a "tool," it's a tool you never had before so losing weight will be easier. How can it not be if you are not AS hungry? -
Gaining weight :(
Wanna-Be-Healthy replied to ebssss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your baby!! I agree. And I also agree with Carolinagirl that "to gain you must take in more calories than you burn off. WLS or not" so it seems that you are consuming more than you are burning. All that said, I'm not sure you should really be focused on too much weight loss when breastfeeding but that is a personal choice. Good luck mamasita! -

I had my surgery last Friday June 7th so it has been 4 days for me. For the sake of honesty I had to have the 3cc primer amount removed a couple of days after surgery because I couldn't even get any liquid down - not even Water - which was odd because the day before that I was fine. Dr said this happens to 5% of patients and attributes it to swelling. Still healing from the stitches and being operated on (but that's normal with any surgery). I was a little bummed out because of the defill but others have told me this may be a good sign that I may not be one of those people that has to have a lot of fills to reach the "Green Zone." Apparently some people on here have lost over 100+ lbs with NO fill. Gas pains in the shoulder and back were a little bothersome, but avoidable with Gas X chewables/strips. I don't ever count pre-op weight loss because it is not "lapband weight loss." Even the post op diet is subjective because you would have lost the same amount if you just did the liquid diet on your own. That said, since Friday I have lost 8.5lbs. I don't want to speak on others' behalf but I have discovered that more people are happy with their band than those that are not. You should also note that the majority of people that post here are those that have had problems, questions, and are not representative of the entire lapband population. Typically when you are happy and have no concerns, you don't come here. If you have any questions or need a buddy, you will find lots of support here. Some are more gentle than others, but all mean well -
Food No Longer Is Appealing
Wanna-Be-Healthy replied to barepooh71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I have found myself "mourning" some foods, I'm finally coming to terms with the fact that this is my new life. Last night I had a cup of cream of tomato soup and I savored every sip. It felt like the most delicious meal I have ever eaten. -
This is my 2nd day and I tried to have watered down yogurt. I thought it was on my list of OK foods but I was wrong!! I even threw up because I got stuck. While most of it came up I still feel stuck! Help any tips? What can I do? I'm already dealing with the pain my insides healing.

When to return to work?
Wanna-Be-Healthy replied to readysetg070113's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you find that was enough for you? I work in an office part time and I'm a professor part time so no contact or physical activity. I was wondering if 1 week was enough. Was banded last Friday. -

No one attacked you but just making a point that your way/technique is too harsh. ...especially when people are so vulnerable. There is a difference between "honest replies" and kicking someone when they are already down. We all know that we need to "follow doctors orders" so we don't need someone yelling it at us or making assumptions. Maybe tone down your exclamation marks. -

I know. I've seen so many people complain about him. Even people that have pm'd me. Thanks for your support. -
Ok so I'm finally banded! I did well during surgery - enough they didn't give me any pain meds there! Dr. even put in 3 or 4cc's in my band during surgery. No Hernia repair was required and I had lapband with plication. (Not to confuse you but there are 2 plications - 1) the procedure that started in Iran and was almost like the sleeve procedure and 2) stitching the band to the top of the stomach lining) I did #2 because it almost avoids any kind of slippage. When I got home and the anesthesia wore off though, it got pretty rough, ie shoulder gas, stitches, insides, and very very bad headaches. Taking chewable Gas X and my pain meds because I don't plan on being a hero. The staff at Dr.Cobourn at SWLC/SmartShape were amazing. They define what healthcare should be! I also want to thank you all for being such a great source of support over the past few months as I was making my decision. A special thanks to Tom Tomander for being a really good friend Any words of wisdom or tips for my new life?
