Anyone from Houston, TX? Need some real barbaric pals!
knmcd replied to Savannah Lee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live South of Houston. I'm using Dr. Audencio Alanis. I'm getting a revision from the band to sleeve. Right now I'm getting through insurance red tape, so no exact surgery date set yet, but tentatively it's looking like September 22nd, or 24th! -
Hey there September sleevers! Any one out there?

Was banded 3/13/2013, my tentative band to sleeve revision date is September 22nd, or 24th! So excited to get this thing OUT of me!! -
So frustrated! After calling True Results in Houston, I waited 2 agonizing days to hear back from them to find out if insurance would cover the procedure. DENIED! My boyfriends company has an exclusion for ANY type of bariatric surgery. Soo they asked if I have acid reflux or heartburn, which yes I've dealt with that for so long, it makes me miserable. The lady told me that there could be a way around it. If they checked me for a hiatal hernia, and if I have one, they could go in and repair it and put the lap band in at the same time. That would be a way to get insurance to cover part of it, I would just have to pay the $5500 for the band itself. I was told to come in for a free consultation and they would sit down and talk to me, get some lab work done, weight me, etc. So I went yesterday and they told me that my insurance is claiming there was a lap in coverage, which is bull, because when my boyfriend switched companies last January we made sure to get Cobra because I was 6 months prego. So I had to call and request proof of coverage to take to the Dr's office. Now I'm waiting on that paperwork, plus my lab work results to get back, so they can schedule my EGD to check me for the hiatal hernia. This will be the only way I can get the lap band!! It sounds awful to say this, but I really hope that all this heartburn and reflux is caused by a hernia!!! Yes, yes, awful I know! Don't judge me!! Has anyone gone through this?? I'm so worried that I won't be able to get the band and I'm a nervous wreck right now. I feel like I'm already hitting a ton of road blocks and I'm only 2 weeks into this journey!!

I was banded in March 2013 and before I was never a "belcher", but I sound like a grown man now! I dealt with a bad bout of gas pains a few nights ago. Need to invest in some Gas X strips for those hard to bear times.

I am weighing in at 163 right now, and have been jumping back and forth between that and 165 for over a month. I weighed 169 at my last fill appointment, and only lost 4 lbs. I am feeling defeated! My goal is to get to 135-140, which is the recommended weight for my height of 5'2". I go for jogs every day or every other day, and I do no less than 2.5 miles in 30 mins. I don't eat breakfast, I just have 2 or 3 cups of coffee. For lunch I may eat a piece of meat or some boiled eggs, and for dinner I eat a meat and veggie. No more than 1/2 cup of food whenever I eat. I track everything I eat on My Fitness Pal. I don't understand because I am watching what I eat, how much I eat, and I'm exercising. I even did a 4 mile walk/jog last Thursday, I'm pushing myself further every time I get out and jog. Has anyone been through this, that can give me some advice on how to push through this plateau?? I would greatly appreciate it!

Over month long plateau - Need to break through!

I don't know how many calories a day I should be eating! The nurse practitioner at my dr's office was absolutely no help with that. They just gave me a list of things I should and shouldn't eat. I asked about calorie intake, and she said it's not about that it's about what I'm eating. No help at all!! Also, in the mornings I'm not hungry at all, and when I do eat my band is tight. Any recommendations on things that are easy to get down in the mornings? Thank you! -

Clothes are definitely fitting looser! I have thought that maybe I've just been losing inches, because I can see a difference in the last month in some areas shrinking. Just thought that it wouldn't last as long and I'd start losing lbs again. I'm all for losing inches. Guess we just get it in our heads that the number on the scale has to go down for us to be losing weight or getting healthier. Thanks for the advice! -

So I am 5 days away from my 5 month surgiversary. I'm down 62lbs, and feeling great! BUT, I am finding myself over eating, and KNOWING that I'm doing it. I have somehow quit paying attention to the amount of times I chew my food, the size of my bites, and I'm finding myself scarfing my food down. I need to break this cycle, and quick. Would love some pep talk from fellow banders!

That's exactly why I'm here! Not here to sugar coat anything, and I know that I can speak my mind here, and hear what I need to hear to get back on track!

It's not an easy thing to admit, but I have to be honest to get to where I want to be! I'd only be kidding myself!

Thank you by the way!! Good luck on your journey!

I think I'm going to do the 5 day pouch test, to get myself back on track and making better choices. I would really like to use My Fitness Pal, but I don't know how to make the portion sizes smaller on that app! I don't really track my calories, although I know I should, and would like to.

Yes it restricts my eating, but I'm eating so fast and not taking my time, that by the time I realize it I am full, which means I'm overeating. Not supposed to get that full feeling, you're just supposed to eat until you're no longer hungry. It's a process to get used to!
