    fifties and pre-op surgery support

Reading through this thread is the first I've seen anything on hair loss. Is it just a side effect for us 50 year old's?

    hiatal hernia

Mine was discovered several years ago when I was being treated/diagnosed for acid reflux. My esophogus had by then needed healing which the Prilosec did. I took it for several years. I have since learned what "not" to eat. Other than the obvious spicy foods--which for this "Northerner" could be taco bell; I can't eat lettuce of all things! I had my gall bladder taken out a year ago for pallups, my gastroenterologist said an overweight person should not take Prilosec or the like for any length of time--can't remember why. But I stopped right away. I take it only when I have hearburn now, which isn't very often. I'm going to ask about getting it fixed when I have my surgery.

    My new journey begins...

lilmispcl, I'm so happy for you. I'll be following you. I have my first consultation this week. Oh my goodness I have waited about 6-weeks for this appointment, it seems like a lifetime! I'm hoping to get a surgery scheduled by the end of April or May. Thanks so much for posting your pre-op diet. I haven't had a clue what to eat before the liquid diet. I've been trying to cut back on my eating, but what? I found a good protein drink at Sam's Club but I understand I should be making my own. There's so much to learn. I'm anxious for you and look forward to sharing your successes. Here's to a new you!

    No Soda In 2 Weeks

Yew, veg oil?! That is nasty! I really prefer plain old ice water or cool water as well.

    Out of the 280's!

Definitely feeding off your excitement. A shout out to you for your hard work and many more milestones come!
  7. flrosie~~You are making me laugh, and thanks, I need it. I'm personally in migraine hell. But that's another story... I have loved this site since finding it. I have learned so much from "Bandsters" as I wait to cross the line myself. I feel like I'm in hell as I wait to have my first consult for goodness sakes. I'm so anxious to get this thing started. Even all the negative stuff it seems I will have to encounter along the way. Or shall we say, along our journey. As you have been so fun to read, I shall learn from the answers that other members provide as I follow your thread. Glad to meet you. kkua in So Georgia.
  8. BubblyBandit I'm so sorry they treated you so badly. I have been a WW 3 times. While going to weekly meetings more than once I heard people, usually women speak as you said--so mis-informed on people that go with WLS. We all have our own journey and have no idea what another person has gone through in their shoes. I learned a lot of tools that I know will be of great use once I have a real handle on things after my surgery. I hope you can put that negativity behind you and stay positive. You've done what's right for you. Best Wishes.
  9. I'm hungry and I don't want to be.

  10. I am so very proud of you! You are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing.

    Gluten Free

Haven't seen any posts on or for GF. Am I going to be alone in this category?

    Last Meal Syndrome

I hadn't thought of a last meal. My initial consultation is just over a month away unless I get in early due to someone's cancellation (sure hope so). I'm gluten free which has its own obstacles. I've been trying to find out how to prepare for this liquid diet. Then the cut in carbs and increase in protein. How much of each?
