    multi vitamin

I have hunted the shelves and the internet on this subject. I have concluded I'm going to take the vitamins that are sold at my surgeon's ofc. I think the brand name is Celebrate. They are made especially for WLS patients. They are formulated based on the type of surgery you have had. I am still pre-op but am looking to start taking them before surgery. I tried a sample of the formula for lap-band patients (chewable), it was tasty and disolved in my mouth quickly.

    Military??

As I understand it; any weight loss surgery disqualifies you in the military. I currently work for the AF (have for the past 33 years), The standards are always evolving see what is "current".

The Big Book on the Lap-Band

I downloaded the Kindle version yesterday. The price for this format is much easier on the budget.
  6. You are getting closer! I see my surgeon tomorrow for my 2d visit with him and 2d weight check. I'm feeling pretty good about things so far.

having trouble staying away from chocolate

The peanut m&m 's in the freezer sounds doable. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions. I've looked at the packaging on the Centrum chewables. They aren't Gluten Free. I see my surgeon tomorrow and will ask. I've got to do something soon.

having trouble staying away from chocolate

I'm in your boat too. I gave up Dr. Pepper, no problem. Potates, rice, no problem, but chocolate, dang just shoot me!

    It's Been A Long Time...

Shelleymb, thank you so much for your honesty. I sometimes go several days without "checking in". I'm still pre-op. Keep your chin up, you're doing great! Look at your list! Some doctors are great docs and surgeons but are horrible at being compasionate with their patients. Sounds like that might be your docs deal. Happy thoughts!! You can do this! karen

    Gov. Christie gets Lap Band!!!

So thankful!! I appreciate Gov Christie's desire for privacy but also would want him to know, we are all in the same boat. We want to be around for our loved ones. Enjoy life to it's fullest. We just can't do it as an obese person. We miss out on so much in life. Cheers to him and his journey!

    Getting into exercise

Stept04, That's a good question...but we have to start somewhere. I have the bad feet, knees, hips, and back. I got a personal trainer at the local Y. I have had a membership for probably 5 years and only started going when it's obvious I must do something! Please, for the rest of your life; start somewhere, you will feel better for it. Those endorphins are amazing buddies. I'd be happy to help encourage you along your journey. Pick something and do it routinely, like an appointment. Your appointment to better health. I am pre-op, just met with the dietitian today. I don't expect to get a surgery date for a couple of months. Whatever you do, start slow, but be steady and make a goal of it. I'm on My Fitness Pal (kkua). We can do this together. Best Wishes

    Starting With a Personal Trainer

Working out at the YMCA is going well. Up until last night I had been doing just treadmill walking. My knees and hips are in horrible shape so to be able to do anything is a blessing. Last night my trainer took me around to the weight machines for an assessment. I have my marching orders for the next 4 weeks. Weights and Cardio! WooHoo!!!! I had my first pre-op weight appointment today; I've lost 6.5 pounds since seeing my surgeon.

    Beginning the process

Thanks for the advice Aeromech. It's basically what my surgeon said. Food or carbs especially, is a drug, I'm an addict. I'm not sure I ever looked at it, food that is, as an addiction. Other than the endearing Chocoholic we call our selves from time to time. I've got some retraining to do as you pointed out in getting my head straight. I understand that. After the "come to Jesus" meeting with my doc this past Thursday and painting a very clear picture for me. Thanks for your mentorship.
  18. I'm in information overload. I respect his approach. I've got a lit if work to do, which I expected. To start, I have to start immediately with 30gms of carbs per day. Good holly Molly! That's not going to happen overnight. But my husband is being very supportive and I plan on getting there as soon as possible.

    Beginning the process

Hi Connie26. Right there with you! I'm just starting my required 3 mo.th pre op lifestyle change. I'm allowed 30gms carbs per day. Boy is that an eye opener. Im also gluten intolerant so it also makes for not so fun choices. The sight is so helpful.
  20. Heck no! I'm 53, and I'm just getting started on this journey. Everyday is the first day of the rest if your life. This is an investment in the rest of that abundant life! Don't consider living in misery and discomfort, watching others do what you wish you could do. Do this for you, you are worth it!

    rack of lamb

To be hely88, gonna look you up on Facebook for those recipes, I need all the help I can get.

    rack of lamb

I'm wondering now after reading this thread if lamb could be my replacement for pork? This past year I had to give up pork, I always got migraine after eating it. Aaaarrrgggghhhh!
  23. Ok, this is a milestone for me. I can go several days without a drink of soda. My vice being Dr. Pepper...I don't drink much at a time. Because of migraines but when I get a migraine, sometimes a cold swig of the doc or (rarely) the whole can, will kick the migraine when my arsenal of meds won't. Go figure! We've just been through several days of horrible overcast and some rain. I pushed through a 72-hour migraine with no Dr. Pepper! That's huge for me. I lift my glass of ice water, Cheers!

    No Soda In 2 Weeks

Steph04, Wow! I took Topomax for years, as a prophylactic against headaches. No mention from my Neurologist about using it to kick a soda habit. That's really pretty interesting. Crazy some of the things you learn on these threads.
