I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
dixienorco replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 59. I had a revision surgery from sleeve to gb on 1/17/13. I am losing slowing but am considered "lite weight". I am four weeks out tomorrow and have only lost 13 lbs but I am losing. It was a challenge going through menopause, hysterectomy, breast cancer, etc. I asked to have revision as I continued to struggle with my sugar addictions. I feel like I am back on track. Getting enough protein in per day takes commitment. -
Any sleevers in the Inland Empire??

I am a sleever in Inland Empire but work in Rialto. Not enough time at lunch to head out your way. Maybe next time. -
What to tell your boss??

It will depend how long your stay in the hospital is and how you are generally feeling. I stayed three nights in hospital as I had bout with nausea on the second day. I took two weeks vacation time off work. I am a secondary school administrator. Three weeks would have been nice but two weeks was fine. My dr. indicated that I needed to be sure and walk, walk, walk. I am now six weeks out and feeling great with no complications. I have not told my boss but my secretary knows, family and a few other folks. It will get around. If they are really interested I will give them the 411, it was a long and personal journey. A decision that took me ten years to make. -
Has anyone felt like they aren't...

Yes, I am in my fifth week and have lost twenty five lbs. Twenty lbs were lost in the first two weeks. I feel that I am losing not losing at a pace I should and wonder if it is going to work for me. Last week was only two lbs. On the flip side, it took me six months to lose thirty lbs and I had to work at it to keep it off. I just hope my excess weight comes off slow and steady. It is hard not to compare to others that have had good weight losses off the git go. -
Interesting enough, my surgeon recommended taking six weeks off because of low energy level in the afternoon and the body becoming adjusted to the low calories. I heard what he said and thought there was no way I was taking six weeks off. I did take two weeks off and am doing fairly well. There are days I get lethargic. I work at getting nutrition in. I usually have protein drink around 5 am then breakfast like cottage cheese and fruit at 9:30 am. That gets me to lunchtime. I am probably going to have to have a protein drink in the afternoon to balance out the long days. I am four weeks out to date.

Does Gastric Sleeve Surgery "cure" diabetes?
dixienorco replied to MINI-Me's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am diabetic and a month out from surgery. I was on 850 mg. of Metformin twice a day and now I have not been taking any of the pills. My blood sugar has been below 120 to 105 which is decent. I still have to be careful of too many carbs or sugars but have been having some. As I lose more weight, I am hopeful the diabetes will go in remission. -
Syntrax has Grab and go. I am purchasing that so I can have individual packets when I travel and I am at work. I am OK with Fuzzy Navel and Roadside Lemonade.
