I have developed an issue where I can hardly even drink anything. Tried to drink apple juice and even that seemed to stick in my throat. This had been going on since a few days after my last fill. I'm also having horrible heartburn. Anyone else experience issues with swallowing after a fill?

Which protein shake does everyone use? I have trouble with eating breakfast and need a good protein shake to have in place of food.

Thanks all! Luka Beth, I wasn't even aware there was a search feature so thanks for that helpful tip

Problems eating in the morning
HYAC replied to HYAC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all! Although disappointed that this is the case I'm very glad to hear its normal -
Recently I have had problems eating in the morning. I typically eat very runny oatmeal (same thing every day since surgery) about an hour after I wake up. Haven't had problems until the past few weeks and now it seems to stick. If I wait until mid-morning, I don't have any issues eating. No recent fills or other changes so I wouldn't think that was causing it. What would cause this? And is it normal?

I have had a few things get stuck. I've had the sliming happen (NOT a fan) but I've also had the sliming when food comes up. Its generally the last bite I took. Is this considered "vomiting "or just sliming? I fear band slippage but gather that the sliming is a common occurrence.

What are your signs that you need a fill? Usually I know that I need a fill but I've got a regular follow up appointment tomorrow and I'm waffling on whether I need a fill or if I should leave it alone for now. So what is YOUR indicator?

Bite sizes vary on which food I 'm eating....generally about the size of the end of my finger. I set a timer and wait 2 minutes between bites. Problem before happened because I did not know you were supposed to do liquids for awhile after a stick to allow swelling in esophagus to decrease. Kept trying to eat which caused reoccurring issues. Had 1cc removed to allow healing.

Thank you! I am hungry after about 3 hours and it is taking more to feel satisfied. I had to have some removed due to everything getting stuck and if I get a fill tomorrow I will be at that same fill level again which I think is what has me worried about it. Thanks to each and every one who responded

Is to wrong to force yourself to vomit?
HYAC posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When food sticks, I generally spend 20-30 minutes going through a series of "heaves" before I actually vomit. The heaves generally include the "slime" that is trying to force the food down but there is no food in it. (sorry for the details!) After I am finally able to vomit the food up, I am exhausted both physically and emotionally. Is it wrong, and would it even work, to force myself to vomit closer to when the series begins rather than waiting it out? I recognize that this is a sign of an eating disorder (which I obviously do not have since I was banded to lose) but do not feel that I would be forcing the issue to lose weight but would be forcing the issue to cause myself less trauma. Please be kind....this has happened twice in the last two days. I'm tired and simply looking for help. I have added the 2 foods to my list of "don't eats". -
Need some feedback about daily diet
HYAC replied to szavala22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During the soft food stage I struggled with same issue. I sliced up bananas and froze them. I could then use one frozen banana with peanut butter in a blender with skim milk. The frozen banana will give you the texture of a shake and you end up with fruit, dairy and protein plus some needed calories. Speaking with nutritionist is a must! -
This is my first post on this site and look forward to getting your opinions. I had my band placed on 11/9/2012 along with having a severe hiatal hernia repaired. I have lost 28 pounds so far. I am wondering if my expectations were too high as I thought I would have lost more by now. Surgeon says I'm doing "alright" but really didn't give me any help on how to improve weight loss. I am keeping my calories to under 1200 per day and trying to watch fat intake as well. On top of the weight loss issue I cannot lay flat to sleep, cannot lay on my left side at all and cannot put my arms over my head without causing quite a bit of discomfort in my chest/diaphragm area. (Like to lay on your back and put an arm over your head while sleeping.) Is this normal? If so, what can I do to work towards laying flat? And what can I do to amp up my weight loss?

I am using an app to track food so I hope that will give me some insight. I'm also working out at Curves and alternating that with walking. Thanks to you all for your kind welcomes and replies. I will speak to doc on Wednesday again and will try to be more demanding on getting a response to the continuing discomfort and sleeping issues.
