What was the first habit you changed?
leannel90 replied to TheDuchess's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm on preop until tomorrow and abandoned the diet Dr pepper two weeks ago and haven't looked back. I did have some diet soda at a restaurant and it tasted terrible. I'm trying to change my.habits to living in the now...and not worrying about anything else. Its tough though...that self doubt can creep up and bite you in the a$$!! -
Thanks Creekwood...you're really great and we appreciate the posts!! Thank goodness you said sandals...and that the snow is gone finally!!

You've got it cased!! The only other things I can think of is something comfy to wear. If you have a favourite pillow for the car ride. And Gasx strips. We're doing this tomorrow...its crazy. I'm feeling nervous today...now that its closer.

Who am I if I'm not fat?
leannel90 replied to Gizenhoffer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was one of the most interesting posts that I have read since being on here. I've struggled with the question in your title for quite some time. Basically food has been my soother. I've found thoughts I've never had before have come bubbling to the surface. The difference now I think is that I turn 40 this year...my confidence is great...and I welcome that thought process now. I used to be scared of it! Its basically time to deal with this and put it away and live my life the way it is supposed to be lived. I answer my self doubt now with confidence and gusto...I am me...just able to do ANYTHING I set my mind to...like ziplining, riding in a plane comfortably, and knowing that I made the choice to be that way. Thank you all for your amazing stories...what a great read...its like I wrote a book of my innermost thoughts! Have a great day...and to all you moms out there...have the best day ever...you deserve it!! -
Tomorrow is my day!

Anyone cheated on the pre-op diet, but did great with the band?

I'm exactly one week prior to you...I'll keep u in the loop. Good luck!!

I am going on the 14th!! Good luck to us...you'll do great!

I was nearly identical. All of the same thoughts you have listed and then some! I was very honest...laid it all on the line. If there is a medical way to make you healthy with the lapband then they will do it. Work closely with your lapband doctor...it'll be okay...but be forthright with ALL your data and feelings.

What an amazing book! I finished it in one weekend...it is a BIG book. Tons of information and I would recommend it to anyone that would like a ton of information. I currently have a ton of stickie notes in it...it looks like a university textbook. Has anyone else read this book and what were their thoughts? I love that Alex Brecher wrote it (along with Natalie Stein). Someone who has been through this...and created this web site has to know a few things.

I recently found an app called FIT Radio. they make sure to play music that has the right amount of bpm (beats per minute) and keeps you going. You can choose the genre, and the app is FREE. I couldn't believe it. Also, if you check mens or womens fitness magazines or websites and scroll through all the home exercises, maybe you'll find one that grabs your attention and you think you might like. Most of them are archived for free and you can print them off. I just invested in a treadmill for the exact reasons you mentioned, except here in Canada where I'm from it's the COLD that's ridiculous. Instead of spending money on the gym, this is a one time expense that fits with my lifestyle. I justified it by calculating the money I will save in one year by no longer eating out. Turns out I could have bought a Gold's Gym!! Find something that you love - don't set unrealistic goals, and know that you can do it. 1 minute off the couch doing a jumping jack is one minute you're not sitting on the couch. You've totally got this! Good luck!!

You don't have to drink your Protein (I don't think). My nutritionist said that she'd much rather I chew my protein and eat "real food" than drink my protein. Talk to your nutritionist. I believe though, in order to get your proper protein in for the day, it can be a real boost. It is also vital to the healing process immediately after surgery as you're still on liquids for weeks after your surgery in most cases and protein helps to HEAL you. One of the best effects is that it makes you feel full longer. Definitely ask your nut to help out. Many of the Protein Shakes out there aren't milky and there are other ideas out there. Get your medical team involved - they're there to help!

Any smokers prior to surgery?

Yes, I know the answer is to call the dr, but in the interim until tomorrow, need help
leannel90 replied to finallytime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh good deal. If you feel okay that's what matters. Hopefully just a little irritation on your esophogus from stomach acid or being stuck. Hope all goes well tomorrow with the doctor and he'll likely dismiss it as not too big a deal if you're okay by then. Have a great night and a good rest. -

Darnit. For sure switch to fluids (no solids to eat until you see the doctor). If you are in pain...or if the bleeding worsens...just take your daughter and get to an ER. They can call your doctor in if need be. Help is there if you need it. Sorry I can't help more! -

I know you're not going to want to hear this but I think you should go to the doctor now. This seems like a bit of an emergency to me. And switch to liquids to be safe as well. -
Mine is on the 14th. I am getting nervous...mostly for the loss of my old life though. I could go and eat anything I wanted anywhere I want. 8 days of liquid diet has taken care of that though. And I'm not pleased with how I look when I do that so this is the best way for me. Good luck...in no time surgery will be over and your new life will start. Yay for us!!

I guess I wasn't expecting much to come out so I wasn't disappointed. Perhaps there is more to come out though? Should I try something or leave well enough alone?
