My doc does 1 day liq 1 day mushies. I got a 1 cc fill today which makes me a total of 5 ccs. I felt a little funny at first. I had warm liquids today and so far I'm good. As my surgeon says just listen to your body..the amount of fluids is different amts for different people

    Jl,
Hi there. Did you do your fill under flouro or did you do a Water test to determine how much fill was needed.
First, I wanted to give you some reassurances:
    1) 3cc is a very typical starter fill. Whether the doc put it in at the time of surgery, or during your first fill, again, 3 cc is normal.
    2) Since this is your first fill, you may be more sensitive to the fill. What is happening is the increased restriction around the stoma is putting pressure on your vagus nerve (as it should). However, with all the increased inflammation in the area, the vagus nerve can be aggrevated and send off signals to other areas it innervates (like the diaphragm and chest). These should subside as inflammation goes down.
If at any time you cannot pass fluids, or you cannot transition into solids with frequent regurgitation be sure to get an unfill. These symptoms should not persist for long.
Also, I hope that they gave you some instruction on drinking only fluids for at least 2 days than slowly intro mushies than solids. This way you do not further aggravate the stoma and cause occlusion.
I am an RN and her comment wasn't the most professional. Especially if she failed to follow it up with her rationale or explanation of her expectations. I say, ignore her hahaha.
Hope this fill helps you...and the symptoms subside by tomorrow

PS 4 years post surgery I still get nauseous with fills lol

My first fill was 5 weeks after surgery....my 2nd fill was 4 weeks after that....between my. 1st and 2nd fill, I gained weight.....
After my 2nd fill, things became 50-50, where I was not hungry only fir a few hours between meals...
After my 3rd, and final fill, did I hit the green zone and my hunger-appetite was completely diminished...
That was over 2 years ago and still going as good as ever....easy as can be.
But those first few months, was a very difficult adjustment phase....and everyone reacts differently and comes out on the other end a little differently, IMO from reading posts here.....

Went to a work event today and one of my bosses gave me a huge hug and told me "You go girl, you look great!" I was glowing by the time the event was over.

Again, such a personal decision and it is all about how you feel about yourself. I have a lot of loose skin and I do catch myself looking in the mirror and groan but then I look at the alternative. Weight nearly 500lbs and not able to walk more then 10 minutes at a time. Even my Wife would prefer the loose skin over me not being happy and not able to physically do anything. Perhaps if I ever hit 199 I will look into plastic surgery.
Not to down play losing 18lbs but is 18lbs one way or another going to play that much of a factor in regards to loose skin?

I set my goal a little high so I can think about this. I want to thin, period. For me and mostly for my health. And the more I think about it. I want my goal lowered. That's why we had this done. Right? Those extra 18 lbs isn't much when you think about it. But it's much when you want to be done. I guess you need to decide what you really want. Yes it might mean you have to diet a bit longer. But it would be so worth it in the end. Just a thought. It's so easy to give up. But it's harder to stick to the end, it's reward is something that is priceless

It all depends on how you look and feel. I set my goal lower than my surgeon did. He set it for 150, I said 140. He insists that when we women get to a certain age, we can carry a little more weight and look better. Don't know?

I say do what makes you feel best. If you feel great where you are and don't want to lose more? Then don't. You can always change your mind and lose the 18 pounds later if you change your mind.
Do what is best for YOU and makes you happy.

I am down 70lbs and feeling great (thank you, thank you band). The dilemma and I know it is a good one is should I carry on and lose the final 18lbs??? I am 59 years old and so far the skin I can live with, it is not pretty. I will never be able to afford to have surgery, it almost broke us paying for WLS so no chance for more surgery. Has anyone got advice for me, or faced similar situation?

i was super morbid obese...it was either seek/get help or be cut out of my house one day..my dr wanted me to do the bypass (and my ins did not cover the sleeve or the ds).....and even though the dr tried to get me to do the bypass (due to my starting bmi of 62) i held fast to the band......he then told me of the plication but stressed it is new so he couldnt tell me alot of it.....i had to sign a waiver for this and he did it for free w/the band.........
he told me something i never forgot......he said no matter what WLS i got.....the bypass, the sleeve, the ds, the band, the plication or whatever.......that unless i changed what i ate....begin to exercise, no WLS would help me...
choose what works for you.....following the doctors instructions on how to use is for the best results.....sometimes things with any WLS happens (good and bad)....and this is a risk we all take.....no one surgery is better than the other....patient compliance in ALL areas is a must....
i went from hardly being able to wipe my butt and barely walking.. to now doing step aerobics classes on a 4 inch step bench 4 to 5 days a week and back to strutting in my 5 inch heels (because i can now).....in 17 months...for me i made the best decision for ME

    up to you...all the best

I'm 6 weeks post op and I'm down two jeans sizes! Today I put on a pair of jeans that were so tight 3 months ago that I could barely breathe with them on, and they were so loose all over that I could get them off easily without unbuttoning them!
Tonight I had hubby take measurements since I hadn't done any for almost 6 months. From June until now I've lost 2" in each calf, 2" in my hips, and almost 7" in my waist! It's unbelievable. Here's a picture comparing July and now.

What do you mean when you say you "Feel" like you can never have any of those foods again??? And no longer eat healthy foods....
There are certain foods I no longer eat, it is not because I "Feel" like I can't, it is because they do not work with the band very easily....like walking through a mine field....
But I don't ind, because when I look at that list as a whole, 90% of the foods there are NOT HEALTHY choices....no nutritional value....
I am being forced, which has now become a new habit, to explore and start to eat new food choices and ideas, I have not eaten this healthy my whole life....my friends think I have become some kind of nut by choice...they don't know I was banded and had to learn to eat better....
I have lost all my excess weight and body fat, eat the best healthy food choices one can expect, (and learning new things everyday) get plenty of exercise as if I was 25 years younger....all because of this WLS...

I have had my band since August of 2012. The best choice I have ever made. I do miss pizza from time to time and yes once in awhile I have a bite of my kids or my husbands. But can NOT eat more than that. It gets me over the crave of it though. Breads are not good for me nor is rice or Pasta. Every time I try to eat any of it I end up throwing it back up. So I don't but once in awhile I am still stupid and try a bite or two! Think I would learn!! I have lost 83 lbs and am very happy with the band. Its a great tool to help me. I do have a hard time eating any kind of fruit or veggies and beer or pork. I eat a lot of fish and chicken. If we go out to eat with friends I usually just get nacho's. It something I know will not make me sick. Not the healthiest thing to eat. But I do not like to be sick nor do I want to get sick with friends! I wish you all the best of luck with your band!

I am down one jean size! Broke into the little stack of 16 Lee longs in my bottom drawer. I have been in 18 Lees for a long, long time. Yippee! They are a little snug but I'm wearing them anyway. Considering going out to find the next size down to have on-hand -- an incentive.....

Thank you for your post. I to am riding out my last fill because of your post. I can eat and drink and my problems are small so it's not that I wouldn't have an infill if I needed to, but you do put a different spin on things. I don't miss the pizza, bread or chips I love that the band takes care of those things, and I love for the first time in my life I am a small eater, was at a function recently and could not believe what people put on their plate because it's free, please GOD that is never me again because the price you pay for over eating is so great.
