If it is uncomfortable eating or drinking, you need a (SMALL) defill. Otherwise you could end up dilating your esophogus - this leads to seriuos consequences. I am speaking from experience...

Congratulation, love your posts and all the inspiration you have given, so glad you mentioned it takes a year, I've been banded 9months and I still feel I have so much to learn.

    5am...off to gym as usual..run 5 miles, sauna..shower....
Get home to find today's clinics are canceled due to the inclement weather...so, time to catch up on my reports from last weeks evals...
3pm..all finished, climbing the walls with all this energy...so, BACK TO THE GYM....another 5 miles, just me, the treadmill and U2 LIVE FROM MILAN...
    Feel like a Million Bucks!!
Stop at Boston Market to bring home some chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, and beans....
IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!!! All because of this WLS - band!! Three years ago it would have been a very different story indeed, and I would not be around today to tell this one...
Not only did this surgery give me my life back, it gave my life back 10 FOLD!
Can't wait for tomorrow....it will be a 12 hour day at the Children's Hospital, working all day with some very sick kids and their families...which makes it all the more worth it...
And because of the band, I know my positive attitude and energy spills over into what can be a very grim and depressing situation....
BRING IT...I'm Ready for anything....again, all because of this Weight Loss Surgery that changes everything!
    No room for whiners....

i weigh at the dr's office once a month
as i had a horrible (scale addiction in my past) and its just better for me not too...id weigh after each pee and poop and base my happiness if i lost or not..and if i gained, watch out....may as well pig out.....that is my diet thinking..now i go by my clothes....if they get too big and i am better mobile wise, i am doing GREAT.....i know the scale goes up and down all day long....if it works for YOU, go for it..we each have our own journey to take and make our way to better health.....

I weigh myself every morning. It keeps me on track. I don't see it as anything odd or abnormal---the scale reflects me efforts over time and I like seeing the number go down. If the number is up (or stays the same for a significant amount of time), I know what I need to do. It's just another way I stay accountable to myself, along with my clothing and my photographs.

Well, one year ago today I was introduced to Mistress Band, 60 pounds lighter, down from a 46" waist to a 36". Shopping in the "normal" section and having to buy slim cuts shirts. Not getting winded when I walk a couple of miles, riding farther, faster and longer are just a few of the changes. First time I have made it through the holiday season without a substantial gain, let alone a loss. Funny thing is, I just feel like I am starting to understand my band after a year, I have another 40 pounds to loose, but I'm in no hurry. I am enjoying my life, and while WLS has not solved all my problems, it has made a substantial difference in the quality of my life.

One of my very closest friends of 4 years is now my VERY SERIOUS boyfriend. We had been buddies (yeah...some stuff happened every now and then) and in that time we got to know each other inside and out. Well now, he's mine and I can't put into words how it feels. See he's a "hot guy" who is also down to earth and sweet - even with my personality, I didn't think someone like him would want me. Guess what? Not only does he love me, but he's crazy attentive and goes out of his way for me. He lives out of state right now, but he comes to Houston every other weekend, so it's not so bad. I won't go into the details, there is so much to love and be excited about in this relationship. By the end of the year, he will relocate to Houston!
I never saw us getting together. When I was around him I felt like I was twice his size and didn't feel comfortable, even though we had so much fun together...I just felt like his buddy with benefits. Nothing more. Thanks to Miss Pealie...he can see what was hiding under all that fat and found his best friend and the woman he is seriously thinking about marrying. Yes, I'm in love.
Now that I'm a more normal weight...I'm quite a bit smaller than him now, so it's a great feeling for sure. Besides that, I'm a hot girl along side this hot guy and the world can tell he loves me! Wow!

So...I went from a comfy size 10 (12 for small cuts) to a size 6 in days. What's my secret? Ask Miss Pearlie, she's calling all the shots and I have no idea what she has up her sleeve (ha, ha...a band with a sleeve) these days! Not complaining...I'm overjoyed!!!

This is funny! I've had many "close calls" over the years, some very embarrassing! I've had to excuse myself many times while eating out over the years because I ate the "wrong" thing first. which plugged me up and I could not eat another bite and my dinner date was ruined because I got food stuck for hours.
This is why I tell other newbies, while dining out in public, ALWAYS get a warm tea, or hot Soup to help open up the esophagus.
I keep papaya enzymes with me and chew a few when I go out to dinner with my husband, this will allow easy digestion and I can eat food without getting stuck.
bread, grille chicken, and Chinese food should always have warning signs for lap banders...haha..

oh yes .. we went to a Irish Pub in Pensacola last week.. they served a pumpernickel bread covered in butter and honey I think.. I really thought about eating some but I knew I would get stuck.. I had ordered salmon -and a salad.. I have been stuck on bread before.. it hurts.. so glad you were able to clear it B52..I seem to have more issues with scrambled eggs (real) than anything. don't know why.. I can eat eggbeaters okay.. people ask me what I can eat.. I tell them anything that my band likes...

B-52 you are a lot farther down the LB road than I am, and I appreciate your candor on the things that you still have to watch for. For me, I am still learning to not take that second bite.

I'm sorry, I know how tempting that warm bread or rolls are. Last time I was out, since my son has celiac, we just asked them to remove them from the table! I haven't had an attack in awhile when at a restaurant. Happy New year, and great reminder B-52. Karen...aka.kll724

Last night went out to dinner with my Wife.....sat down, ordered drinks, then ordered our food....
They brought out the fresh bread.....it looked very soft, warm....but I should know better...I do not eat bread....
But it happens, you just don't think sometimes.
Cut a small slice, took a small bite, chewed and swallowed....BAM...it just sat there! I could feel it. Not quite stuck, but I knew if I took one more swallow of ANYTHING it would be a disaster.....
Now I'm in trouble...they have not even started to bring out our food yet, and I am unable to eat or drink another thing.....
I excused myself to go to the men's room.....I guess just from getting up and walking, the lump of bread finally passed....when I returned, I took a few sips of my drink to be sure all was clear.....it was!
This has happened to me a few times when I was still learning..the hard way...I may have had to bring my entire dinner home and not eat anything there....very embarrassing to say the least.
Once you learn your lessons, I should not think things will change over time.....I cannot go backwards with this surgery....
    Close call !

How about some mindfulness training? When I first started back on real food after my surgery I did some eating with the clock. My little fork up to my mouth with a bite then putting down the fork, taking my hand away. So hard for me to let go of that utensil! Pick it up at thirty seconds -- empty -- to the mouth, feel the sensation of the fork on the lips, then put it back down again. Finally at one minute another bite. This was to teach me what a bite a minute feels like and to get me to slow down. I probably need to practice this again as I'm trying to learn my body's signals for satiety.

You need to slow down and take that as a soft, or hard, stop sign! Unless you have nothing in your band, you will still have restriction of sorts, so you will still get those stop signs! Maybe you are still too tight! Are you still vomiting? If not, then you probably just need to slow down and not eat too much. Best wishes, Karen..aka..kll724
