    Any February 2013 Bandsters?

My problem's been just the opposite. Coupled with te gas problem, it's not been a picnic!
  3. Noted! My hubby is totally going to chuckle though when I tell him that I need a bidet type device. We decided that we are going to make a tshirt, that says, "If you think wiping your a$$ is hard when you're overweight, try doing it with incisions!" LOL! Now I'm changing it to, "Try doing it with a port!" It's funny that it's these simple little issues that have been bugging me most. Knock on wood, I haven't had any of the nausea or heartburn, no vomitting at all
  4. Linda, Taking care of personal business in the bathroom is what's killing me right now! I swear every time I try to clean things up I pinch my port site by accident
  5. Hey all! I was banded on the 20th. Each day has gotten a little better, right now 90% of my pain is at the port site. It's to the left of my belly button. I have 5 incisions total, the only one bothering me is that one that I believe is the port. It's like an indent in my belly. I originally planned on taking 1 week off, but I think I might listen to my doctor and take 2 weeks. I can't walk upright yet because standing up straight pulls on my incisions, so I walk all hunched over like a little old lady right now. The gas pains are getting less and less each day for me. Hopefully this port issue will subside as time passes, as well.
  6. Hello all! I slept in my own pajamas, in my own bed last night, with my puppy sleeping on the non sore part of my lap! Feeling much better than I was. I think I've really lucked out so far, no vomiting, no dry heaves. The worst I've dealt with is the post op gas that's slowly dissipating through my body, and oddly enough it's given me a few accidents. How are you guys all doing?

    3 days Post Op Observations

I had a lot of trouble sleeping while I was in the hospital, just couldn't get comfortable. All the body gas would just sneak up on me lol but walking helped with that a lot

    Full liquid diet question

I'm 3 days post op, not feeling any restriction either, I ate a cup of beef broth yesterday. I am just taking it slow and trying to gauge when I feel satisfied, i find that if I do too much too fast I feel burpy

    Just had surgery. ..

Just had surgery yesterday. Went pretty well I guess, no complications really. However I'm miserable and questioning my decision.
  14. Well bandsters, it's really happening for me, my surgery is tomorrow at 3:00. I'm getting a little nervous. Just keep telling myself, YES, this IS happening! So much more real now that's less than 24 hours away. I'm scared, nervous, excited, curious...

Lap Band Surgery and Body Jewelry

Spoke to pre op today, they are allowing me to keep it in so long as I understand that it may cause a burn and/or get dislodged. I can live with that
  16. I am set to have surgery on Feb 20. I have my nose pierced, just a tiny little diamond stud. I know that they tell you to remove all piercings, but the problems is that I couldn't take this one out if I wanted to. I actually tried to take it out and put another one in about 6 months ago, and couldn't get it out without extreme pain. It's corkscrewed in the middle so that it stays in my nose. Apparently, it stays in a little too well. I am stressing out over this because 1. I know that I can't take it out, and 2. I don't really want to take it out. If I ended up having to get it re-pierced, I will cry; it was horrible! I am actually going to call my surgeon's office today and see what they say. I had read a few stories on the internet where people were allowed to leave it in, as long as it was covered with surgical tape so that it didn't get in anyone's way. I understand that I may suffer a burn if my heart stops on the table and an AED is needed, but that's really a risk I'm willing to take. Just wondering if anyone else has any similar piercing stories or experiences?

    Tomorrow, my life changes.

Thanks all! Mathis new support system is wonderful. I'm just worried about stupid little things mostly, like getting the catheter out, and the clear liquid phase. Be honest- what was the worst thing about your surgery experience? And then, to make me feel better, what has been the best?
  18. Well Feb 20 is the big day. It's such a relief to know that insurance has approved & this WILL take place. It's been a very long road. 2 years ago i was supposed to have this surgery on Sept 21, 2011 but my crap insurance, United Healthcare denied me 2 days before surgery. They determined that since I'd only been morbidly obese for the past 2 years not the past 5 years, I was not eligible. Basically, they told me I wasn't fat enough for long enough. I appealed four times, to no avail. I've since started a different job with new, better insurance, and they approved me right away. As long as I've waited for this, and as much as I want it, I'm still nervous, the closer we get to Feb 20. Can't wait to have the surgery & healing part over with!

    Any February 2013 Bandsters?

I know exactly what you mean! As the date creeps closer and closer my nervousness starts to eclipse my excitement of the newer, smaller me, and I'm thinking, "WOW this is happening.". Then I start thinking surgery, pain, etc and I freak out. I can't wait until this part is over with. Lol
  22. Well, I am 12 days away from realizing my weight loss dreams in the form of a lap band, and I don't really want to tell anyone! My husband knows, my immediate family knows, but other than that I don't want to tell anybody. At work, everyone is under the impression that I am having my gall bladder removed. I hate lieing, but I feel like if I told the truth, people would be like, "Oh shame on you for taking time off work to do this, it is not medically necessary, you are having elective surgery!" But that's not true! For me, it is very medically necessary! I've tried for ten years to take off weight that has steadily been packing on. I have asthma and sleep apnea, and am high risk for diabetes. I feel like people look down on those who have the surgery because they "took the easy way out" and didn't lose through diet and exercise, although I hear that the lap band lifestyle is anything but easy. Any thoughts? Anyone else hesitant to come clean, too, or am I just plain crazy??

    Social Stigma and Full Disclosure

Oh I absolutely hate having to make something up to my coworkers, it's a very close knit office. I just feel like it's my own business; I don't want to talk about it with my coworkers. I am taking one week off because I'm having medically necessary surgery. Isn't that enough of the truth for them to know??? I actually AM getting my gall bladder out at the same time, I've always had gall bladder issues, but that is kind of secondary to the fact that I'm getting the band. I'm only telling my family and my best friend. Like many of you said, I don't want to be the subject of gossip, and I don't always want people asking me how much weight I lost. Everyone knows I've been trying to lose weight and that I recently joined a gym, so I plan on attributing my amazing weight loss to that. I hate how people automatically assume that the lap band is a magic bullet. Yes, I am being lap banded, but I am also in the process of making major life changes here as well. I think that is the key; anyone can get banded, but it takes a lifetime of commitment and work to lose the weight.

    Pre-Surgery "LIST"

Well, my surgery is in 12 days, and I too am trying to get all my "lasts" in just in case. Had my last pizza, last bag of chips, last DQ Blizzard... This weekend I'm hitting up the best steakhouse in town for my last filet mignon. It's not sad really, for me to think of these things as all "lasts" i see it as exciting because these are the things that really made me heavy in the first place. LOL
