Metabolism plateaus from age 20 to 60, and then it declines 0.7% a year. So you will lose at the same rate as anyone under 60. The study was quite a breakthrough when it came to metabolism studies. It covered 6500 people, 29 different countries, 8 days old to 95 years old. So in essence, it's up to us to follow the basic rules, do what we need to do to lose the excess weight. People who gain weight in their 40s can't blame their metabolism anymore. The difference is usually due to their decreased activity level, lifestyle and diet compared to when they were 25.

I started about that BMI with multiple health issues as well. I had hit rockbottom. Nothing worked anymore. I just kept getting bigger. I felt like I had no choice or I would die soon . I'm glad you are considering it. It was the best decision of my life many years ago. All my comorbities are pretty much gone. I would do it every year if I had to. Good luck. We are here for you, many of us have been in a similar situation.

Happy birthday! [emoji324] Beautiful pastry. Looks yummy. -
Curious about no iceberg either. It may not have as much nutrition as other leafy greens but it is still good for your heart and has valuable nutrition and helps with hydration.

Sleeve to Bypass for GERD
Tomo replied to Keona1323's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Full broad revision. Helped tremendously. No more burning throat (silent reflux), and I never wake up in the middle of the night with acid burning up to my nose. -
I am struggling please help
Tomo replied to Muwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put off revision for gerd for many years. I'm so sorry I waited so long. I did so much damage. I feel so much better now. I'm sorry you are having a hard time this time around. But as others said, for some, it is very normal to have a difficult beginning but yours was exacerbated by a blockage.[emoji22] I think you made the right choice and had to get rid of the severe reflux and gerd. You will, with time, live a much more normal and painless life. Hang in there. -
Treating saggy skin on the face
Tomo replied to Dogmom68's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I lost tons of volume in my face post surgery. So I had more sculptra treatments. It has been used since the 1990s for AIDS patients for face fat volume loss. It helps me a lot and I'm in my 60s. The results aren't overnight, it takes 6 weeks at a time for your body to make the collagen so one has to be patient. I once had Radiesse but sculptra looks more natural since it is my own collagen instead of the filler. I used to only have to get 1 vial a year to top it off but now I will have to have maybe 2 or 3 vials a year since I lost so much face volume this time around. It can get expensive. It's like $800 a vial. -
New annoying, and painful, post op discovery....
Tomo replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a horrible experience with an IV. My whole arm was completely bruised from my fingers all the way up to my biceps. I had totally forgotten that experience until I read your post. Basically what I was told is if I have more than normal swelling, increased pain and redness, and especially a fever, seek immediate medical care. Feel better soon. -
I usually have a +/-3 lb range unless I eat pickles lol. I love pickles but whenever I eat them, I always gain 5lbs temporarily. Not sure why because I do eat other salty foods but pickles really do the Water gain job on me. I looked it up a week or so ago, and it said that the average typical and normal weight fluctuation in a adult is 4 to 6 lbs a day. Unfortunately for me, I have to be hyper vigilant because of my history, so if I hit 3 or 4 lbs over my normal stable weight, and if it doesn't drop in a day or two, I cut calories for a few days just in case.

5 days is my cut off point for most. For sashimi and sushi (unless cooked) 24 hrs. If I have a lot of vinegar or lemon juice in the dish, maybe a day or two longer. -
Had my revision from sleeve to bypass on the 28th...
Tomo replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No problem with small pills. Waited a few weeks for larger pills. No problem if I want to take them now. I was told never again to take NSAIDS but no problem with any food or spices. So tumeric would be no problem at all. I have never heard of no turmeric... The only reason they told me no NSAIDs after surgery is because it may cause ulcers. -
Returning to work post surgery
Tomo replied to ltdaniel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to do desk work and chores (except the heavy lifting, of course, as per my surgeon) on day 3, but I did feel tired for a couple of weeks possibly due to low calorie intake, borderline dehydration and general recovering from surgery. Some recover fast, some recover slower but whatever your case is, don't rush back to work if you can help it. Relax and heal faster. Good luck and congrats on your upcoming surgery! -
That is horrific [emoji22] and it's sad that even with evidence (other doctors who saw the errors), you can't do anything to get compensation for his malpractice because of the location of the operation. Contrary to your lawyers you have contacted here in the US, I think you can still seek a medical malpractice lawyer in Mexico if you have clear proof of the malpractice, and then you can probably get it at least arbitrated. Really hoping for the best for you and so sad you are experiencing this.

Curious About Post-Op Days
Tomo replied to FlowerGirl44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really depends on each individual and how good the surgeon is. After surgery I had a slight sore throat, and I slept through day 2 for the most part. I asked for nausea meds before surgery cause I'm prone to nausea so since they were prepared, and because if that I had no nausea. I was pretty much normal on day 3 but very tired. Didn't need any pain meds because I really had no pain except for incision pain and that was more annoying. -
I don't have a sweet tooth but it's so hot these days I had the craving for an ice cream sandwich the other day. So I had one of those mini Great value ice cream sandwiches (80 calories) and it was really good. I didn't dump but I never really have. I do have the foamies if I eat too fast or not chew enough. I can eat anything for the most part and not have issues. As everyone said, not many dump and you will pretty much be able to eat most foods unless you had become lactose intolerant... Etc.

I did experience a little dizziness even without the sun. Far lower calories compared to what I used to intake prior to pre-op and slight dehydration. Even on a liquid diet, still try to get in as much water as you can. At least 64 ounces. Many foods, like fruits and vegetables, give us needed hydration but that is not allowed on liquid diets. The sun will just add to your dehydration so keep sipping on liquids. If you experience serious symptoms, don't hesitate to contact your doctor or go to ER.

Questions about DS, talking myself out of it
Tomo replied to boat 4 fun's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since patches works for some but not others, you will know on your first post-op blood tests. You can make adjustments from there. I added the high ADEK to bring up a low vitamin A but it was never "deficient" per se. It's like a simple insurance policy that will cover those four important vitamins. I hope they will work for you because it is so so easy. I hate big pills too lol . -

My airfryer changed my life lol and made eating healthier a zillion times easier cause I really like crispy, crunchy... Etc. vs poached or steamed. I almost always airfry my fish too.
