anyone over 60?
Tomo replied to elizabeth having the sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'll be 61 in October. I just recently got a revision from vsg to RNY. There is gas pain, some stomach pain but never over lvl 6 pain for me. The nurses told me that they thought I'd be one of the ones that needed most help but I never called them in. I stayed one night. There must be some truth to the older the patient is, the better they do in surgery and handling the pain. I think you'll do great. -
4 Days Out -PLEASE TELL ME IT GETS BETTER!
Tomo replied to Linjord's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had surgery the same day as you, and from the beginning, I could drink water and have had no nausea from the time I got out of surgery to today. Did your doctor give you Ondansetron? Little white pill that dissolves on your tongue. I lived on ice chips at the hospital, and popsicles. At this point, my doctor said 64 oz a day, sipped 1-2 oz every 15 min. -
Weight Gain 5 Days Following Surgery
Tomo replied to MCinTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. It's very common. I stayed at the hospital for only one night, they weighed me when I entered, and weighed me when I left. I had gained a whopping 10.5 lbs. from their fluids. -
10 days post op living on Skim Milk and Cream of Wheat
Tomo replied to AlleyKitten46's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm on that stage as well (i.e. eating cream of wheat thinned). I know it's considered more like a liquid, and was wondering how much I should eat of it. Have you finished a packet of instant Cream of wheat with no issues? -
New feeling. Not hungry. Update.
Tomo replied to Tomo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Ahhh, I wanted to add that my throat no longer burns all day and I can sleep without acid rushing up to my mouth. The revision was successful (so far) for the original purpose and that was Gerd/esophagitis. -
Bypass v Sleeve....help and advice needed
Tomo replied to Lou51's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've had both. I had the sleeve for 5 years and revise to a bypass just recently. The urgent diarrhea happened with the sleeve too, and some of them dump. I dumped with it, unfortunately. This is just for me... But if I had to do it all over again, I would skip the gastric sleeve and go RNY. Post-op sleeved, I was hungry from the beginning and not too long after I develop Gerd. I'm post-op RNY now and I don't feel hungry at all. The VSG surgery and RNY was basically the same pain level. Having said that, they are both good choices. Not everyone develops Gerd from the sleeve. -
Recommendations for unflavored protein powder
Tomo replied to Christina Phillips's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Genepro and if you want vegan then soy protein isolate (by bulksupplement). I use both. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Clear liquid diet for me. I am looking forward to a regular liquid diet now. This one really bites. Do any of you have to do a magnesium citrate bowel prep? Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

I, too, am sorry for what you've been through. I think it's great you have an appointment with a therapist. Here is hoping to her/him helping you out during this difficult time. Cheers to you making an account and reaching out. You'll be ok. Hang in there.

I had to do a clear liquid diet and that is what I'm on right now. I'm looking forward to surgery just so I can go to a liquid diet. lol It's maddening. Congratulations on your surgery date!!

Extremely Dilated Fundus...Anyone Else?
Tomo replied to EllieV's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
That is absolutely abnormal. Did your doctor say that it has been stretched over time? Did you get a barium swallow right after surgery to compare? I don't have a dilated fundus, my sleeve looks good but my esophagus is really dilated instead, so I think that is the cause of the really bad reflux, Gerd Etc. and why my doctor suggested I get a revision to bypass. I hope you feel better soon. -
Doctor prescribed pantoprazole. How (and when) do I take this right after surgery if I can't crush it? Thanks in advance.

Thank you all!

Revision from sleeve to Rny bc of gerd
Tomo replied to Maria Castillo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
When I first met up with a doctor for revision, I told him I couldn't sleep at night because food or acid would rush back up, and if I didn't take my PPI (which I've been on for quite a few years), my esophagus burned, and I didn't want to up my PPI and be on it for my entire life. He then said that I needed a revision to bypass to help with Gerd, and maybe it'll help me lose a little bit more weight. -
I'm going to have a revision to bypass. I have the sleeve. With the sleeve, I went home right after surgery. I'm kind of stressing about staying at the hospital overnight. Like what to pack? I was wondering what they give you at the hospital as far as drink/food. Should I bring drinks, protein or broth... Etc.? Thanks in advance!

Revision from sleeve to Rny bc of gerd
Tomo replied to Maria Castillo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Getting sleeve to bypass in August as well for Gerd/esophagitis. It's horrible to feel gnawing pains that feel like hunger but it's uncontrolled acid. Equally as bad that I can't lay down, even hours after a meal, because it rushes back up once I drift off the sleep and a burning throat even during the day. Look forward to have that fixed as all of you do. Scared this time around since I'm worried about abdominal adhesions from my previous surgeries. Cheers to all of you. -
I'm going in for a revision from sleeve to bypass soon. I can not do RTD protein shakes. They are far far too sweet for me. I do not have a sweet tooth at all. What I've been doing since my sleeve these past few years is just using fruit for flavor, like a few strawberries without sugar or artificial sweetener... Etc. So I feel like I'm a fix because after surgery, I have to go 14 days on liquid diet which includes protein shakes but I don't think I can add fruit even if blended well, right? Any ideas what I can add to my water (or other liquid) and unsweetened protein powder that will work post-op bypass? I know I can add my protein powder to broth but would really like to have some type of protein shake. Can I use PB2 (peanut butter powder) on the 4th day Post-Op? Is there such a thing as fruit flavored powder unsweetened that I can add to it? I don't know. I think I'm nervous and am overthinking things this time around. lol Thanks in advance!

Surgery Tomorrow and The Anxiety is Kicking in
Tomo replied to kmalagon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through 2 other surgeries and well, I'm scared this time too. You're not alone in your fears. What I keep telling myself is... I have a much higher chance of dying earlier if I don't do this. This is for our long-term health and well being. You got this. Hang in there. -
Should I bring broth to hospital?
Tomo replied to Tomo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you and all for responding. I'm nervous this time around lol. Wow, you stayed 4 nights? I hope you are okay now. That seems like a long time. 😢 -
Yeah, something to go with my low-fat dairy... Etc. Thank you. You are right, I need to ask about PB2 to my team.

Should I bring broth to hospital?
Tomo replied to Tomo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you, I am asthmatic too! -
Whenever a hospital requires a COVID test, I go within 48-72 hrs to a Walgreens drive-thru and swab it myself since you don't have to go deep for that particular test. You get the results in a day. Then I either fax it or bring it to the hospital. Has worked every time.
