Food Before and After Photos
Tomo replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I only ate one because I am still just over two months after my revision to bypass. My eyes are always too big. But it was good going down. I put tabasco and salsa on the top after (not shown). 3 x Mr. Tortilla pico de gallo (1 carb tortilla), 1 oz cheese, 1 oz rotisserie chicken sprinkled on the tortillas and air fried. Craving sweets 1 month post op
Tomo replied to alandk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sugar free pudding and jello are good early on. The Jello pistachio is probably the best flavor. I don't like sweets but my husband loves them so after that phase, I gave them to him and he said it tasted great. No after taste. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
It is quite a bit, but I don't know how many weeks you are at or what surgery you had. I could kind of see that much if you are VSG (different sized sleeves variation) and if you ate the refried beans first. But not if you ate the eggs first. If gastric bypass, one egg was max for me at a sitting during that time. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

Non-Dumping Syndrome Dizziness and Nausea?
Tomo replied to JDenby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weeks 3-5 were my worst for my stomach to veto certain things, and you are correct that it can be healthy things. After 6 weeks, it was almost magical. Rarely any foamies and/or disagreements. -
I had no problems with any temperature. I drink my drinks super cold with tons of ice and my tea/coffee hot.
-
I had my pre-op a week before surgery. My post-op was 2 weeks after my surgery. Based on the half-life of phentermine, it's good to stop (at the very least) 4 days before surgery because there are studies that it causes dangerous anesthesia problems (hypotension).

No Restriction - VSG to RNY
Tomo replied to 2badogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Totally normal. I didn't feel restriction until I hit solid foods. I feel restriction like crazy now. I can be full from one piece of string cheese, or a small pickle... Etc. for hours. I think liquids and purees to some extent are like slider foods. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
True, true. I got foamies quite a bit during the transition from puree to solids. Now I am much better (Thank goodness lol). I never got any other symptoms like the racing heart, flushing, nausea, malaise... Nothing. Just every 20 to 30 minutes, the saliva built up so much it had to come out. It is a miserable feeling, and I hope to never experience again (I am sure I will though. lol). Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

Bananas (and other fresh fruits without the skin,) a variety of baked fish, cottage cheese with taijin seasoning, string cheese, hummus. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

The learning curve is steep for me this time around. I was revised from VSG to bypass recently. I really have to watch the size of my bites now, it has to be really super super suuuper tiny or I risk feeling plugged or get pressure in my throat. If I do that, I'm good to go. I know that as time goes on, I'll be able to eat more at one sitting (I fear that actually lol) but those of you who are further out, do the size of the bites also change? No complaints here, I'm so glad I did this but I'm curious how things will change with time. Thanks in advance.

Another reason for Vitamin D. Hair loss.
Tomo replied to Tomo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
True. I just found it interesting lol. I do know that a lot of WLS patients have low vitamin D. There is a lot still to be studied but I thought the link between vitamin D and hair was a nice breakthrough for hair loss. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Just read this informative article. Sharing for those interested. https://www.eatthis.com/news-major-effect-vitamin-d-hair-loss-study/?utm_source=nsltr&utm_medium=email&utm_content=news-major-effect-vitamin-d-hair-loss-study&utm_campaign=etntNewsletter -
I would probably tell them a general number but if pressed on how, I'd respond a VLCD, which is what we are all on. I don't blame you for not telling them anything though.

Now thinking about it. It is possible with slider foods like ice cream, chips and more. I was thinking of my normal RNY choices (e.g. protein) where it is virtually impossible. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

My surgeon gave me ondansetron sublingual pills, and many refills. I didn't need it but it was nice having it available if I did. I needed it when I had my VSG but not for the revision. It worked within minutes back then. Perhaps you can give your team a call and see if they can give that to you. As far as restriction, I felt it as soon as I went to solids.

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Tomo replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Feet get thinner. I remember always having to get extra wide shoes... Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Yes. Every year after my vsg surgery, I did two things: Full blood test and have a check up visit with my team including a barium swallow to check my sleeve. I was always paranoid I had stretched it. I will probably do the same now with my revision. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

Not for me. I can't eat more than a couple of ounces of solids without feeling immense pressure in my chest. I'm not only forced to eat sloooooowly (or else lol) and a little bit. The food party in my head is where it stays. 😂

Quality/enjoyment of life with sleeve vs RNY
Tomo replied to E-mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No dumping here but then again I don't eat cakes, candy, sweets. It basically (to me) feels the same as when I had the VSG except that there is far more restriction. I feel great. -
No, not at all for me.
-
I usually try to get 1.5 servings of fruit per day and I always try to get some veggies in. Right now since I'm close to 7 weeks post-op revision to RNY, I am still keeping it in liquid form so I make a protein shake. I put a tablespoon of Genepro, baby spinach, 1/2 frozen banana, 4-6 strawberries (sometimes add plums and/or mango) with unsweetened almond milk (or lowfat kefir) and ice in a blender. Vegetables I've been either air frying zucchini or putting napa cabbage, spinach... Etc. in my broths.

I tolerate it just fine but I avoid it. I just recently got a mini airfryer (for 2 people) and am love with it. I love the crispy but I don't want the extra wasted calories.

Success with gastric sleeve starting with lower BMI?
Tomo replied to Mandy2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No problem with sleeve recovery. A few days of gas (took GasX which helped tremendously), sore stomach feeling like you did a zillion sit-ups, and sleepiness is what I remember of that surgery. My mistake was that I had reflux before VSG, hence my reflux got much worse and I had to get a recent revision because of it. That side affect wasn't well known when I got my VSG like it is now. My sleeve was done by a conservative surgeon who made the pouch 10 ounces which is much bigger than most but it still affected my appetite and definitely affected how much I could eat at one sitting. One cup of food was always my max throughout the years. I recommend all WLS once you find which one suits your needs. They are a great tool. I always feel blessed that I had the option. -
Although my husband was with me at home, I didn't need his care at all. I think it is totally doable. I had an easy recovery though. Make sure you stay hydrated though because its easy to forget to keep drinking water and you don't want to end up dehydrated, dizzy... Etc. And be alone at home. Another thing that was somewhat bothersome for me is we can not carry anything heavy for 6 weeks or whatever your surgeon advises. If you get a heavy delivery, for example, perhaps a relative, friend, or neighbor can bring those inside. Good luck and you'll do fine.

Current surgeon says after 3 months but I have already a few times. It causes me to burp but it is no biggy. Could be the straw. I have a steel straw, and it is super super narrow. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
