  1. I worried about it in the beginning. I make a point to not overeat often because of it. My habit is to stop at about 80% full. I can eat 2 cups at one sitting, on a hungry day and depending upon what it is. But as some say, just because I can doesn't mean I should or will lol. I have to rely on filling with fruits/vegetables, healthy low calorie foods, on those super hungry days or I would gain weight.
  2. I think most doctors tell their revision patients not to expect much weight loss. It disappoints many. I remember mine telling me 20 lbs. at most and only in the beginning since hunger comes back by year 2. Something like that. I had my revision done due to complications of the lapband, and then gerd from the sleeve. I think you'll find the RNY much more comfortable to live with compared to the lapband. For one, it's a lot easier to eat. I remember I couldn't eat bread and many things without gagging when I had the lapband. I can eat anything I want now without that feeling. I think if one wants to lose a lot of weight after a revision, they have to really follow the rules and work at it. Especially after the hunger comes back. I really think you'll be able to maintain the weight that you are happy with.
  3. I have been following the rule the way @ms.sss has, I have always drank up till the meal but afterwards, I've been hardcore about not drinking till at the very least 30 minutes, but usually go much longer, until I feel my stomach has emptied. The times I have drank after 30 minutes, I feel hungry much sooner so I wait as long as possible. It applies to snacks and meals, any time you have anything other than a liquid, including soup.
  4. Some of them may have been their private thoughts that they are sharing with you now. That they were truly worried, especially if you're a good guy[emoji3590] and worth worrying about. I have been concerned about others who have put on a lot of weight but because I had a history of obesity myself, I know better how to phrase weight comments. The ones making fun of others is unacceptable behavior, period. I label them jerks, and would avoid toxic people. You've done great, congrats.
  5. I bought my clothes in stages through the years. Most of my pants that are too big are still really cute with a belt. I like oversized clothes overall. I use one of those adjustable no show belts (even under sweaters) that work with everything. I forgot the name off the belt but I really love it. The hardest is finding a good bra through the stages. I have a zillion bras in so many sizes and keep them in a big bag. I don't know what to do with them lol.

    Weight gain

Ups and down throughout the whole first year is expected. Mainly due to your body adjusting to the surgery and water weight gain too. I'm not sure how much you gained but I can tell you for myself, a 3 to 5 lbs. gain is very common, it is temporary but sometimes lasting 2 weeks, then a big drop in weight follows it. It was a normal thing for me. Still is, actually.
  9. In 2015 I had the sleeve in the morning and went home that afternoon.

    Gained 5lbs out of nowhere

I am going to guess that it's water weight (as @catwoman7 said) unless you ate 19,250 calories extra. I often gain anywhere from 3 to 7 lbs of water, sometimes it takes a week to come off naturally and sometimes it takes a little longer.
  11. I didn't tell anyone. I am a very private person and pretty stubborn when I've made up my mind about something anyway. Instead of friction, I usually choose privacy and peace. I have shared with those who are sincerely interested and in need, like those sitting in the doctors offices debating whether it is worth it or not.
  12. I went that exact route and the bypass was the easiest recovery for me and with no side effects except constipation which is easy to treat. I take miralax (a tsp a day) is perfect for me. But I have to add the common "everyone is different" so this is my story. I had to go from band to vsg due to serious complications of the band, and then I had to go from vsg to rny due to developing severe gerd.I really think the band created that environment by damaging my esophagus before the sleeve. The best way for me to describe the rny revision is... Finally a feeling of normality. I feel so good and normal now, pre-any weight loss surgery normal except I can't eat as much. No severe gerd, no side effects, no hassle anything except taking daily vitamins which I always did anyway pre WLS.I hope this helps.

He's so awesome. He is so knowledgeable and he always seems so sincere. Thanks for sharing this. Watching it now. [emoji1]
  14. All the great responses above and... For me, 100% worth it. Like@summerseeker said above, if I had the chance to do it when I was young, I would've done it in a heartbeat. I wanted to, but didn't have the $ resources as well. My family was deadset against it so no support system at the time. Not financially nor emotionally. When I finally did it, I was much older (40s), and I did it completely alone. I was a "healthy" active heavy young adult, but in my 40s, all my commorbities flooded in. I was miserable. When I was younger I felt that anything would be better than the life I was living, and I was right. lol. It would have saved me years of pain, suffering, embarrassment, isolation. I really can't be happier about finally getting it. I'm in my 60s now.
  15. I had a revision from vsg to bypass due to gerd over 2 years ago. I don't regret it. I'm sorry I waited so long. I don't know the future but up till now, it's been a very smooth transition.
  16. I'm a fan of konjac noodles. This is very tasty. I use it as a base and added some veggies. For the soup, 30 calories total. I ate it all. The kimchi flavor was my favorite but the Miso and Tomato was good too.

    Chia seeds, Ideas anyone?

I mix them with all kinds of blended fruit with lemon juice in it. Basic recipe: 2 cups fresh or frozen fruit 2 tablespoons chia seed 1 tablespoon freshly-squeezed lemon juice 1–2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (only if needed for others) The other day I had 6 lbs of extra plums and they were overripe, so I chopped them up, sauteed them for a couple minutes, and pressure cooked them for one minute, natural release. Afterwards I added the chia seed (and lemon juice to taste)).. It was so delicious!!!
  18. It's not really a matter whether it hurts or not but that it is quite dangerous to eat solids too early on because your sutures have not healed until about the 6 week point. It can cause serious damage either now or in the future. I would speak to your surgeon about this.

Just had The Talk with my doctor..

I have had both sleeve and then a bypass revision. I had to get revised because of GERD due to the sleeve. If you've had any type of gerd in the past, go bypass instead and save yourself years of pain and suffering. Both are life changing as in you lose weight, and it stops you from binging, but other than that, once you are are completely healed, I don't really see it being any different than living as a thin person. You still have to watch your weight, watch the things that you eat for health purposes. Be aware that one can eat around the sleeve. You can't eat around the bypass though. I think the only thing that is different than life pre-surgeries is that I have to use a daily multivitamin patch (so I don't have to deal with a lot of pills). I added one chewable adek after I had the bypass. If I had to do it over again I would skip the sleeve. At the time, I was afraid of the bypass. I got severe gerd from the sleeve but please know that not everybody gets gerd from the sleeve. Now I realize that having a bypass was absolutely nothing for me to be afraid of. It's been a problem/side affect-free experience. It resolved all my problems I had with my sleeve.

    The value of a Recliner

For me, a recliner wouldn't have had much value. Although if someone has a hard time getting out of bed, then I can see the value. I do love my large pillow wedge. I got it when I had gerd. But it was very helpful after surgery too.

    Craving sweets

I usually don't use artificial sweeteners either, neither adding it nor in products. I absolutely second fruit as@Arabesque mentioned. There are so many delicious sweet fruit. Peaches, crispy grapes, strawberries and more. They are wonderful for upgrading any yogurt, cottage cheese, oats... etc. If you like honey, that's a very healthy way to sweeten things too.
  22. I was told wear them during my waking hours for a day or two, and never when I sleep.

    Worst compliment

Yeah, I've received quite a few comments like "you look so thin you look like a cancer patient" and "you should gain some weight because you will look much younger". I usually reply with "well, I'm the healthiest I've ever been. So given the choice between transitory looks vs great blood tests and regular blood pressure... Etc. I chose life." It goes in one ear and out the other ear and accompanied with a scowl lol, but I say it for myself.

    WLS + GLP-1

Just watched that video. Great video. Thank you [emoji847]
  25. I didn't have a 3-week stall but I did gain around 10 lbs due to IVs right after surgery, and it took awhile for that to come off. My weight loss pattern is/was like steps, my body likes to hold on to the weight, then drops, hold on to the weight, then drops.
