  1. I love that guy lol. I've watched so many of his videos. He's a no-nonsense type of person. I haven't seen this one. Thank you!

    Phase 2 diet

So strange it isn't on your list then. My soft foods included all fish as long as it was mushy. Tuna salad with mayo is always mushy to me hehe. Either way, I think you're good.
  3. No hehe. Not back. My surgeon puts his patients on a PPI for a year after any WLS surgery.

    Phase 2 diet

I was going to warn you as I usually do with others who go off plan so early on but I had recently read a few responses that many were allowed soft foods right out of surgery so I think you are ok. I wasn't allowed any soft foods, only liquid with both my surgeries (VSG and RNY) for a week or more, but apparently others say their surgeons are ok with it so I think you will be ok. Just don't eat hard to digest foods or you may end up like my friend who got very ill a week after her VSG because she ate meat. Only reason I speak up about it all the time.
  5. A pillow wedge to sleep or rest on. It was invaluable right after surgery (and still is) to me. Some use a recliner but I'm poor so I have the next best thing, a big pillow wedge. Helped me get out of bed easier on the first couple of days.
  6. Thank you all so much for replying and those that will reply in the future.
  7. This will be very helpful in the future if and when I need a little protection once I am off Pantoprazole. Thank you!
  8. Thank goodness! I really hope you get it resolved. Of all the pains and illnesses in my lifetime, severe Gerd is one of the worst things to live with day in and day out. Keep us posted.
  9. Did you speak to your surgeon? That is out of the ordinary for RNY. Maybe they need to lengthen your roux limb or you may have a hiatal hernia.

    Surgery tomorrow morning

I was nervous, but more that I may fail despite the surgery. In the old days, I knew those who had open surgery for the same thing. I couldn't get myself to even consider that but now that Laparoscopic/Robotic surgery made it so much safer and it is an extremely common surgery, I couldn't wait.

    Sipping broth

@KimA-GA I really loved these broths during my liquid phases! It is really delicious, all flavors. I put in a little soy protein isolate powder in them for extra protein and sometimes it wouldn't dissolve completely but they tasted like little noodles floating in there lol.

    “Stuck” Sensation?

Perhaps call your surgeon. Could it be silent reflux? I had that a lot after the VSG. A constant feeling of a lump in my throat, along with a constant feeling of having to clear my throat... Etc. Although RNY usually don't have reflux problems, it still happens. Something to do with the length or roux limb.
  13. Aww I am sorry if I caused you any additional worry. I am so glad you let your team know and they told you what to look out for. I think ESG is safer than VSG overall too. If it was available when I had my vsg, I would have taken that route instead. Here is to your success.

    69 yrs old and unsure..

I am in my 60s. I just recently had a revision WLS. I will speak mainly about my first WLS since revision was made for other reasons. For the first few months, the post-op diet does feel like a sacrifice. Especially the liquid phase. Not actually physically since I had decreased hunger but more mentally, emotionally since eating was never really about physical hunger to me. After the first few months, things normalized. I was able to eat whatever I wanted, just a much smaller amount and social eating was pleasant again. Because of the rapid weightloss, and the positive feelings of losing weight, it was much easier for me to transition to a healthier diet naturally. Was the the weight loss worth it and did it offset the sacrifice? Absolutely. I feel so much younger now being able to move as my body intended. Most health issues resolved too. I would do it again and again in a heartbeat.
  15. I would call your surgeon. It's only been about a week since you had surgery. Even soft foods are dangerous, let alone meat. Just let him/her know. Unfortunately, I do know someone who caused a leak from eating so soon after surgery. She didn't have ESG though, but VSG. It may be more safe for ESG to slip up early. Stay safe.
  16. During my sleeve (when I didn't prepare lol), it lasted for like 4 or 5 days. Sharp shoulder pain, if I bent over to pick something up... Etc. But honestly, it wasn't that bad then either. When I did my revision, and I knew better lol, I began chewing them when I got home, and I was fine right away. This mentions walking, simethicone (e.g. mylanta) and other tips on dealing with post-surgical gas. https://healthproadvice.com/procedures/Getting-Gas-Pain-Relief-after-Surgery
  17. They may give you GasX, the kind that dissolves on your tongue. That seemed to work ok too. It's just I prefer the taste of the mylanta mini tabs and I still use them regularly if needed. Maybe you can call and see what gas pain relief they give you. My surgeon said GasX but any is fine. Above all, walk as much as possible. Forgot to say that part.
  18. Yes. And the fruit ones tastes so good and they are tiny tiny.

    Men are so frustrating!!!!

Whenever our significant other takes us for granted, it is a very painful and frustrating time. I have been there. I'm so sorry you and others are going through that. I was once in a relationship like that. I gave him a deadline to get his act together and when he didn't meet it (of course), I just walked out.
  20. When I had my vsg, I took Tylenol powder packs when I got home for a day, it went very smooth. I did have gas pains so when I went for my revision to RNY this past August, I remembered to chew on some mylanta mini tabs too. No gas pains, and was even smoother.

    Kitchen tools

I second the immersion blender. I love mine and how easy it is to blend things. Smoothies, homemade protein shakes, soups especially for the soft and puree stage. My current favorites: 1. Air fryer. Crispy yumminess without a lot of oil. I love air frying all kinds of veggies. 2. Denzin mini electric hot pot 1.5L sauté pan because it is tiny and easy to clean, make eggs, steak, soup, everything in it. 3. Hotlogic mini portable oven. Keeps food warm up to 12 hr. It also cooks many things, like salmon perfectly.

    Final %EWL

The most recent research also supports this, especially for those over 65 years old. I think in the end, I will settle at about BMI 27 since I am in my 60s too.

    Final %EWL

63% EWL after vsg. 122% EWL after revision to RNY.
  24. I would talk to other surgeons. My surgeon is a major vegetable and fruit fan. As soon as I could fit it in my diet, his goal for me was 7 to 14 servings of vegetable/fruits a day. "No matter what. Just make it happen." It is great for weight loss and health. He isn't specific about the type of protein, just as long as I get 65 to 100g a day.

    Discouraged

Yep, sounds like water gain to me. If I eat too many pickles (salt), I easily gain 5 lbs water overnight and for a second I think distorted self-defeating thoughts. We are all so good at distorting reality. Over generalization, all or nothingb thinking, discounting the positive accomplishments so far... Etc. Anytime your head starts telling you those negative automatic thoughts, just say "stop", and think of the alternative rational/realistic thoughts. I know it can be frustrating but you've done well. Hang in there
