  1. From what I understand, a couple reasons why some have gerd after bypass (although extremely rare) is because their surgeons made the roux limb too short or that your LES isn't functioning properly and letting your stomach contents back into your esophagus . Perhaps you can have speak to your doctor (or see a second opinion). I sure hope you get it resolved.
  2. Pre-op was THE hardest stage for me. You can do it, and if you get tempted or frustrated, spam us lol.

    Vegetarians?

Not vegetarian but the majority of my diet are fruits and vegetables (7 - 14 servings per day). My diet is 50% to 60% carbs. Beans and lentils are great from the beginning (i e. pureed stage and after), tofu as well (soft at first, then firm). I love Tofu and vegetable stir-fry dishes or soups. Anything soybean helps a lot with protein. There is always vegan protein powder too.

    RNY maintenance calories?

I'm still trying to find my maintenance calorie level. After I got to goal, I added 50 calories per day every month, then 100 calories per day until my weight loss slowed down. I am in my 60s, moderately active, but no formal work out. I'm currently at 1100 to 1200 calories with a few days eating 1400 and still losing weight, albeit slowly.
  5. Wow, Kim. You are doing a phenomenal job during pre-op. You are an inspiration. I love seeing your posts and responses on this forum. I love your general outlook and your drive.
  6. Did you find out that at the time of your surgery your fundus was, in fact, not completely removed? There are cases of people who overate regularly (more than 4 ounces) and permanently stretched their stomachs (and top of stomach, fundus) within a couple of years.

    Hunger crushed and taste change

I still do that all the time too but thank goodness, I just close the door. I think I still do that because for years, I would graze all day. Eat all day and ended up over 300 lbs. Not by eating a lot at one sitting but grazing on Snacks. I guess I am still like the crazed, restless addict that wants to peek in the fridge or pantry. But it is a relief that I close the fridge or pantry door 99.999% of the time.
  8. I am married to a wonderful husband but he could careless what size I am so he is neutral on anything related to weight. My family are all asking and live across the nation and we rarely speak except happy birthday, Merry Christmas... Etc. so I think I would classify myself as going through it alone. No true support system but no adversity from family or others since I do keep to myself. I prefer it this way, to do it alone, to cook, log and track. I find it more difficult if I had to take care of kids or people who do not have dietary restrictions. If I need support, I have you all. As far as right after post op. I slept for day one and was fine after that.
  9. I come from a family of skinny people. The women are naturally under 115 lbs . Most have hypertension, a few have sleep apnea and a couple have diabetes. Sometimes it isn't due to weight but body composition, genetics, diet (e.g. too much alcohol or salt) or unmanageable stress. I honestly can't see a surgeon doing RNY to someone who has a BMI of 30 and is active as you say. I wouldn't recommend it but to your question, I know a few who had a BMI of 30 and went to Mexico to get the sleeve (not RNY).

    Gas and “smells”

Nope. No difference. You do go a lot less because you don't eat as much. Some get constipation.< br> I have never heard of it being a problem except one YouTube blogger mentioned it. I didn't listen to her and went ahead with the surgery. Glad I did. It gave me pause like for 5 seconds lol.
  11. I would contact your surgeon and let them know. If they haven't already prescribed ondansetron (aka Zofran), perhaps ask them for it. It is a good anti-nausea pill that melts on your tongue. I used to keep it with me in my backpack, so just in case, I can take it anywhere without water. Works in minutes.

    Hunger crushed and taste change

You are very early on. Embrace this time. Take this time to get into good habits now while you still have appetite suppression. It is called the honeymoon phase for a reason (after all WLS). The majority will get their hunger back within the first year if not sooner. Mine began returning around the 7th or 8 th month. I am 13 months post-op. It's annoying lol. After the majority of my protein is in for day, I eat a lot on fruits and vegetable soup for dinner on those hungry days. That is what works for me.

    Hummus and what?

I think a silicone baking mat will work.

    complications

I hope your surgeon gave you an upper GI and endoscopy to see if your sleeve has issues. When I first got my sleeve, I would have a yearly upper GI to check that is hasn't stretched (or leaking). Someone close to me cheated on her soft food post-op diet early on, and it ruptured her sleeve and caused leaking and sepsis so I was always paranoid in the beginning.

    RNY 9,01, 2011

This is inspirational because your outlook and willingness to get back on track is admirable. Celebrating with you!
  16. Sometimes I watch myself on cam and I am walking tilted or forward like an old person. I walked for years with my legs rubbing together, and it still feels weird to have space between my thighs. I run, exercise and jump fine, I feel great but when walking around the house I sometimes walk imbalanced too.
  17. This this this. It has been over a year since my revision and my quality of life has improved so much. I sometimes wonder how many years I have stripped off my life expectancy from the pain and lack of sleep I experienced for years because I tried to rely on PPIs, H2 blockers and more instead of just getting a revision right away.

    **Weight REGAIN**

Sounds like your doctor has faith in you since you originally went from 400 to 170 lbs. That is a huge accomplishment. Despite the weight gain, you are still way ahead in the weightloss game being 135 lbs down. Maybe he suggested the 10 day liquid diet to try to get you back on track. Similar to the post-op diets, kind of like a reset. I know resets can't shrink your stomach but it does reset some people mentally and they can go back to the dedication they had early post-op and continue doing whatever they did to be so successful before. Also, since you have vitamin deficiencies, maybe he feels you having a revision would not be a safe thing right now. I think you seeing your pcp is a good thing to address or exclude any other health problem that may be causing you to gain weight. If you really want a revision and he is unwilling, perhaps get a second opinion.
  19. Speaking of noodles. I made a roasted eggplant konjac noodles stir fry dish in spicy garlic sauce. I first roasted one eggplant (114 cal) and then stir fried it with the konjac noodles (10 calories, zero carbs), spicy garlic sauce (25 cal) garlic, onions, a splash of chinkiang vinegar and soy sauce. I didn't eat it all but it was great as leftovers too.
  20. Can he convert to rny in same surgery? I know it is a very common to do so. I think you will find the rny is a much more comfortable, more natural feeling of restriction compared to the band. Good luck and really hope you get your revision.
  21. As@summerset said, the weightloss is my reward. It is what I am so focused on and to some point obsessed about(for years) so it is a mini celebration each time I lose a pound. The pros of weightloss are good health and mobility so doing sports and things that are fun are always such a bonus.

    Hummus and what?

There are recipes online but the one I use is I pre heat oven to 400F, put little small heaps of shredded cheese. Like 24 little piles, separated from each other cause they spread out as they melt. I always use parchment paper. I once used aluminum foil, and that was mess lol. Bake in pre-heated oven until golden brown, about 6 to 7 minutes. Let it cool for 10 minutes before eating. They keep very well in a sealed container.
  23. I actually think that you were safer in the long run. When I got my revision to rny, I inquired about having it done as an outpatient like the other surgeons in my area offered and my surgeon said no way lol. I felt much safer with him so I stuck with him in the end.
  24. When I had my vsg I had it done at 8 am and was out the door by 1 or 2 pm that day.
