String cheese was one of my faves in the early months. I like trying to make the thinnest long string, it's fun, it melts in your mouth, has protein and calcium, and time consuming to eat (i.e. Keeps me busy) but most importantly, it's good for the early stages on most programs.

They don't remove it because the stomach is still needed to do its job making the necessary enzymes needed for food digestion. The juices will mix with the food in the intestines later. Usually no part of the stomach or intestines are removed in RNY.

I'm finally cleared for my revision, and I have a question
Tomo replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wear a PatchAid multivitamin every day. I currently take a daily chewable, BariMelts ADEK as well. I go by each blood test result to see if I need to change things. I was still in the normal range vitamin A in December but it was on the low side so I started the BariMelts ADEK shortly after that, and my last blood test this May shows good vitamin A levels. So for now, I will keep the BariMelts ADEK along with my patch. I've been using patches for more than a decade. That had been a constant. -

I make homemade kefir and sometimes I make way too much so I make labneh balls in olive oil. They make great gifts too since they last forever. The longer they sit, the better they taste. I have never tried it with Greek yogurt but now I think I may try it. [emoji106] -
Low bp/ orthostatic hypotension
Tomo replied to Krasavitza's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's natural to temporarily feel a little light headed no matter what extreme diet one may be on. Low calories can do that to a person. I had a friend who was on a liquid diet for months and she fainted every now and then. She did not have WLS. She was in one of those medical liquid diets. I have low BP since my weight loss but it was fine when I was 160 but after I got down under 120 lbs is when it happened. The doctors do not seem overly concerned, told me to drink coffee and tea, and add some salt to my food... Etc. I don't ever feel dizzy or uncomfortable. When I was over 300 lbs I often felt dizzy, unwell and always uncomfortable. I, too, am so thankful for WLS. -
Sure. First, the "everyone is different" caveat lol (different starting weight, different genes... Etc) But to your question, I lost ~16 my first month, and ~9 lbs my second and third month. Then 6 to 8 lbs a month till goal. Then after goal, while trying to figure out my maintenance level I lost 4 to 5 lbs a month for the next 5 months, then 1 to 2 lbs for a few more.

Anyone taking ozempic after having surgery?
Tomo replied to Vicky Sue's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know about Ozempic but your surgeon may be going by the recent studies that showed that starting WLS patients on pharmocologic agents after surgery stopped future weight gain. Studies show that half of the patients gain back a third of their weight back, and the medication prevented it. I think it's really up to the individual. I know for myself that I don't want to take any thing (not even "natural" otc appetite suppressants because then I would have to rely on it instead of figuring out the real reason behind me wanting to eat) but if my weight does creep up, I might consider it. I don't know. My fear of being over 300 lbs again has always been a good motivator. -
Post Gastric Bypass - Does My Unused Stomach Still Send Me Hungar Signals?
Tomo replied to boofie3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a significant decrease of ghrelin after RNY (statistically the same as vsg), and an increase in leptin (satiety). At one year post WLS, they observed an increase in fasting acylated ghrelin in both as well. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31680051/ -
Am I recovering TOO fast?
Tomo replied to JustJovi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
100% everything@Arabesque said. I wanted to add that cake, cookies, any of the comfort and slider foods (overly processed foods) generally won't fill you up and many can tolerate them but choose not to. They are designed to eat rapidly and they also get quickly absorbed so it's really hard to gauge the effectiveness of one's wLS. -
Yes, I have no problem with them raw (or cooked). I like them raw with lots of lemon and horseradish. They are good air fried too.

I don't think daily nausea is a common symptom 4 months after a sleeve. Please check with your doctor to look into the reason you are going through this. Feel better soon.

Food advice - travelling to the US
Tomo replied to Summermoose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
USA are in grams as well but not per 100g but by serving size, and at the top of the chart, it says how many servings per package. -
I am so sorry you had to go through this. I would definitely look into malpractice especially since ESG is the safest procedure... Endoscope and sutures, that's it. Usually done as outpatient. It really sounds like something horribly went wrong. I hope you are feeling better and I send you all my good thoughts and hopes for your next procedure.

Welcome!

I like getting a high protein nonfat Greek yogurt (I use fage nonfat), putting in some organic unsweetened cocoa (I use Cocoavia cardio health), and mixing in sugar free maple syrup (I use Maple Grove farms no sugar syrup) to sweeten it. Tastes so good. I wish I knew about this recipe when I was in the puree stage but I just recently found it somewhere on the net. I don't even remember where.

Thinking I might losing weight to fast
Tomo replied to Catina B's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My best guess is that it's mostly water loss as@catwoman7 mentioned. Some on pre-op diets lose a lot of water weight (mainly low carb diets do that) so maybe that is what you are experiencing. You may enter a stall soon since it sounds like your body is adjusting. Please make sure you stay hydrated and contact your surgeon if you experience other symptoms. -
Food Before and After Photos

Lettuce wrap with a veggie burger 159 cal total. I could not finish it without being uncomfortable. First meal of the day is always "tight". Sometimes it's annoying. -
None of that seems normal except maybe for the first day or so for most people. Especially not after 6 weeks. If you haven't already, I would contact my surgeon soon. Really hope you feel better soon.
-
Ok. Now you all make me want to try it lol.
-
For an overnight, as@Catwoman7 said you'll be sleeping most of the time. A phone with charger, a toothbrush, a large comfortable outfit that just slips on when it is time to go home, a small pillow for the ride home if bumpy (can hold it to your stomach).

Post-Op : measure by volume or weight?
Tomo replied to SemperVeritas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I have a scale, I weigh it otherwise, I measure volume or eyeball it too if I don't have either. I make a point to always measure my food, whether by volume or weight, otherwise little by little my volume would increase. I can't trust myself to stay around 4 ounces like others can so I have to measure or the weight may creep back up. I try to stay around 112g (4 oz) with a meal that contains any heavy food like protein. If it's a fruit snack, like watermelon that is mostly water, I weigh a bowl with the fruit before and then after to get the weight I had eaten so I could track my calories accurately. -
How did it go? Hope all is well and you got your answers. My alt and ast were high. It began a couple of months after surgery, and are still high at 1.5 year+ .
-
I didn't have any major changes either but the I did get the intensity of sweets in particular. I don't really like sweets to begin with but right after surgery everything was sickening sweet. Now it seems more normalized. To your second question, to what I wish I knew... In retrospect, I wish I didn't waste time watching YouTube videos on how awful RNY was because my experience has been nothing like their experiences. It's been a smooth ride with little or no side effects, like the majority of WLS people, on this site.
-
I just got back my blood test and everything was good but my AST was almost out of range and my ALT was out of range at 35. I noticed it climbing every blood test. I'm at 1 year 7 months after my RNY revision. I was so concerned so I did a search here and found this. Thank you. I don't drink or do any of those "don't do this or it'll hurt you liver" things, even the diet no nos are not foods that I normally like, so I wasn't sure what is causing this. I have a check up with my bariatric team in a couple weeks but seeing this calmed me. Thanks again!
