Hi I am in Saskatoon as well - welcome! I was banded in February. I am sure we can support each other even though the surgeries are a little different.

Thanks everyone. I think it was rice. It was the first time I had it and I don't even think it was a teaspoon full. I had hardly ate all day and took it in too fast. I know better!! I went the the bathroom and coughed and coughed as hard as I could until something came up. I just got up a little stomach acid - but instant relief!!

I had no problem with Protein shakes preop. I did three weeks of Optifast. I was banded feb. 19 and every time I drink a Protein shake - optifast or something else, I get an upset stomach and sometimes diarrhea. Any suggestions? I would really like to drink the as I have a hard time eating my protein. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks! Cindy

No, they are very low in sugar. I did discuss this with my nutritionist and she thought I was still healing (that was a month ago). I have to ask her again- she is out of town. Thanks for all your ideas. It is a weird one!

No I am not. I drink milk fine. Nothing else does this to me. I have tried two other protein shakes so far. Funny thing is pre-op it was fine- no problems.

All you do is go to friends on my fitness pal and add friends. Then you select to send an email. You put in your full email and you enter the persons user name in the 'to' and add a message in the body of the email if you like. The friend then accepts the invitation!

I just found your posts and I see that they are old by a couple of years but....I am from Saskatchewan! I live in Saskatoon. I was just banded on February 19, 2013! I had it done at Aspen Medical Surgery (used to be called Omni) Dr. Pooler is wonderful and the entire staff is terrific. I am still very sore and very full feeling. I have had a very upset stomach the last two days. I am now down a total of 23 pounds since my pre-op optifast diet so I am very pleased with my results so far. Cindy

Travelling (Canada) For Lapband -- Questions And Concerns!
Loulou730 replied to Shackwacky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wasn't sure where to post this so everyone could see but I noticed that a lot of people from Alberta were flying to Toronto to get banded. Do you know that you can get banded in Regina? It is a wonderful facility and Dr. S. Pooler is a great surgeon. It is just so much closer. It is called Aspen Medical Surgery. If anyone is interested I can give you their website too. I have been extremely happy there, the staff have been great. I can get my fills here in Saskatoon too. -
Hi Cat Whisperer, Yes, too bad you are not closer but we can keep in contact on here! Yes, I was banded yesterday - Feb. 19th. I am still pretty sore but everything went great. Is Dr. Pooler doing your surgery at Aspen? If so, they are all wonderful there. It was a great experience. I have nothing negative to say at all. Well, I am off to bed. It is getting late and the pain killers are making me very tired..... Talk to you soon. Loulou

Good luck! You will do great! I go Tuesday!

I would just give Omni a call. They are now called Aspen Surgery.

Great! I am having my surgery in Regina. Great surgeon and all the staff is really wonderful. It is done at a clinic there - I am going for the uninsured as then I can have it done right away. If I went thru the government paid one it would be about 2 years! I am afraid I don't have the time. Where did you have your surgery? Do you mind me asking what it cost you? It would be interesting to see if it varies from province to province. Not that it would have been convient for me to travel that far for the surgery/fills. It has been challenging enough to go two and half hours for all these appointments in the winter. I had to pay $250 just to meet with the surgeon. The actual surgery which included all my OptiFast and fills, meeting with the nutritionist and exercise therapist and psychologist is $16,500.00. This is a lot of money and it was a huge decision but I feel this is going to save my life and there is no price tag for that! You have done great since your surgery! How have you found it? Much pain? Are you hungry? I can't imagine you have much hunger compared to this liquid diet! lol Take care and have a great day!
