I love eggs now. Early in scrambled and hard boiled eggs were hard to eat. I had no trouble with a fried egg or a poached egg. For a while I ate only egg whites, but I am back on whole eggs and I'm doing great!!!

How about some NSVs!?!?
sassy14 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Smiley, I know just what you mean! I did the same thing. I'm now 22 months post surgery, down 134 lbs and it is awesome! It took me a bit of time, but now I am so comfortable in my size 10/12 body!!! -
I'm 5'6 and started at 291 and size 24-26. I am now a 12/14, sometimes a 10. I look at myself and don't know who it is! I'm having skin removal and abdominal wall reconstruction next month, so it's likely I'll be a 10. I weigh 158 now and if this is the end of weight loss, I'm great!!!

Hi-- you might want to consider Botox for migraine instead of the meds. I am 21 months post RNY and love the Botox. It is really good at preventing migraines and my forehead is wrinkle free! And you may want to have a few mini snacks during the day to help with fatigue. That did the trick for me and helped stabilize my blood sugar. Hope you feel better!

Call your surgeon. If it hasn't come back up in a short time, you need help. -
FINALLY! I have found not one but TWO things I **HATE** about my sleeve.
sassy14 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
I had RNY and down 132 lbs. I didn't like the cold before but now I am freezing. I'm sitting in front of a fire wearing wool socks and insulated sweat pants and shirt. I have a giant wool sweater at work-it is a size 24 wrap sweater that keep wearing because it fits over everything and goes to my knees now. Maybe it will pass? Don't know but I have a nice electric blanket and lots of layers!! -
I'm central jersey-- Freehold. I had RNY in Feb 2013. Who's your surgeon? Mine was Dr Andrei. You'll do great!!!

What types of food can you enjoy down the road?
sassy14 replied to jjyogalove's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm 21 months post surgery, down 132 lbs with 8 to go. I eat a normal healthy diet. I don't eat nearly as much as non surgery people, but I eat a decent amount. I can eat a chicken thigh and some veggies, or steak and salad. I eat only good food. I'm wasting no space on food that doesn't taste really good and isn't nutritional. I do eat a little dessert-- but it's a little. And not all the time. I also drink a little wine-- before I eat. People who don't know I had RNY can't tell by what I eat. It takes at least a year to settle in to the new smaller stomach and learn what agrees with you! -
Yes! What you are feeling now will pass. Sip a little warm tea or even warm water. Go slowly-- your little tummy is very sore. It needs to heal. It's really hard to believe it, but you will feel so much better each week and month. And when those pounds fall off, you will know it was all worth it. I'm 19 months post op, down 130 lbs.

I'm 18 months post RNY and while I'm not losing much hair anymore I am thrilled with L'Oreal's Volume Filler line of hair shampoo/conditioner/gel and most of all the ampules of "fiber amplifying concentrate". It is fantastic! It makes my hair look thicker than ever.

Question about Nutritional/Vitamin Deficiencies Several Years Out
sassy14 replied to Redsfan19's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
And then there are people like me. I had RNY 2/28/13 and lost 129 lbs. my body is very happy being normal weight. I have regular blood work because now my body--for the first time ever-- is absorbing Iron and b12 better! You have to have your regular bloodwork and make sure your doctor goes over all the results. -
I love monkfruit. It's at the grocery store, called either monkfruit in the raw or nutrisse It has been used in China for decades as a treatment for diabetes and tastes great.

Umbilical Hernia

Glad you are almost home! I'm sure every day will be better! -
I agree with the metabolic factor. My gastroenterologist told me that both the RNY and sleeve essentially reset the metabolism. He told me that years of obesity alter your metabolism significantly. For me, 30 years at more than 250 lbs meant that I would do weight watchers, etc, eating about 1400 calories a day and starving, and I would lose 40 lbs in two or three months and then lose nothing more and start the regain. I regained all the way to 291 lbs in dec 2012. My RNY was 2/28/13 and I am down 125 lbs. I eat 1200 calories a day-- some days 1400. Still losing and I don't feel controlled by food.

I was invited by friends to a buffet brunch. There were wonderful protein choices. I ate slowly and made sure I tasted what I wanted to. And zero guilt about one bite of something that wasn't wonderful and throwing out the rest! It was fine and I didn't overeat. I think as long as you see the buffet as not a place to "get your money's worth" you'll be fine. I had the surgery so I could be in control of my life. It's not easy but i am doing it!

Who is over the 5 year mark from surgery? 10 years? Over 10 years?
sassy14 replied to CTRose1160's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is very interesting to me. I am 18 months out and about 15 lbs to goal. I lost 126 lbs so far and am still losing, but slowly. I know someone who had the surgery about ten years ago. She lost some weight and ultimately gained it all back. Watching her was key. She always drank while she ate. Always. When I started to wait a full hour after eating to drink and making sure that I ate dense food, I found I was losing better. I find the hour wait to be critical. Of course, once the hour passes, I drink a lot!!! -
Umbilical Hernia
sassy14 replied to JeanaLuvsKisses's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have one and can relate to the crazy noises and rumblings. Every time I eat I can feel what I think is food passing through. I also have a separation of 8cm between the abdominal muscles. I am seeing a plastic surgeon tomorrow for a date to repair the hernia and to do a tummy tuck/pannilectomy. He will tighten my abdominal muscles. I have not had fever with this, but I am having constipation. Last year I had a small bowel obstruction and ventral hernia. I was very sick-- pain, throwing up and severe constipation. That was an emergency. Listen to your body and call your surgeon if something seems wrong. Hope you continue to heal. -
A bad side effect from bariatric surgery
sassy14 replied to James Marusek's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I developed reactive hypoglycemia at about 1 year post RNY. I am very careful to eat enough at meals --at least 300 calories. I also eat a high protein snack if I feel hungry. It's working well. After the first severe reaction--passed out--I can stop it with a drink of something like skim milk or a bite or two of cheese and crackers or apple and peanut butter. It's really scary the first time and now I have controlled it well. -

Rode my bike 6 mikes today! Last week I started riding a little bit around my development. I hadn't ridden in 33 years! It was so much fun to ride along the ocean and feel like I was flying!!! -
Oh and the margarita? Had a hall of one last night. Before I ate any food!

I am 57 and was 56 when I had surgery. I was out of work 2 full weeks. I did well -- very little throwing up. If you are throwing up a lot something is wrong and you need to see your surgeon. I lost some hair but the biotin helps.17 months post surgery and I am down 124 lbs and feel great. I rode a bike 6 miles today. I have my life back.

I can drink regular coffee, and could starting a few weeks post surgery. I drank decaf for a few weeks because I was overly cautious, but started on the regular coffee by a 6 weeks post op. I do have milk or half and half and I have found a nice hot skim latte is a great afternoon pick me up and a decent source of Protein. I did take protonix for about a year and four months post surgery, but have never had an issue with coffee. In fact, the issue would be if I couldn't have it. The no carbonation rule is ok with me....but no coffee would have been a disaster!!

Are your family & friends telling you to stop losing weight?
sassy14 replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Great topic! I hear this too. I had surgery 2/28/13 and started at 291. This morning-168. I am 5'6 and want to lose another 10-20 lbs. I am in a size 12 or 14--- huge change from 24-26! I have not told my parents I had surgery. They are 87 ( I'm 57) and very judge mental and I see them only a few times a year. However, my mother after congratulating me on FINALLY losing weight, said you have a lot of wrinkles! Really!!!!! I have upped my moisturizer, but dear lord. My friends are supportive and tell me daily I look great. But the best thing was a friend who said to me, "you were always professional and dressed well. Now you're just beautiful!" Oh, and I am having that awful skin removed and an abdominal lift. The doc says there is about 10 lbs of skin, fat that will go there. It's more than just cosmetic as I have rashes and several hernias so all will be repaired in one surgery. -
