    Horror Story

My gastroenterologist told me the sleeve surgery is very different as the majority of the stomach--where lots of those hormones are made-- is removed. He said my metabolism will basically be reset, so long as I follow the post surgical directions. As someone who was on weight watchers for three years, lost 40 lbs in the first year, then lost zero in second and third years, my metabolism needs a reset. This surgery, according to my Gastro, will allow me to change my life.

    Roll Call!

Hi! I am 56-- does that ever sound OLD! I am married, have three grown children--22, 23 and 27--and one adorable three year old granddaughter. I have been obese since I was 28 and discovered a great big world of food I had never seen before. I was on birth control pills, felt happy and content and eating was wonderful Fast forward to three complicated pregnancies--likely the result of carrying around extra weight and myriad of health concerns. I want to live to see my kids have kids and enjoy every minute of every day instead of feeling yucky all the time. Can't wait for Feb. 28, my surgery date.

    Horror Story

All of us know someone who has had a serious problem after a medical procedure. I nearly died 12 years ago after a medical test went wrong. Heck, my daughter went into allergic shock from pineapple! If this is a true story- which seems questionable due to a lot of inconsistencies-- how terrible. That said, I found a surgeon who has done lots if these surgeries, is well known by my Gastroenterologist and pcp and is offering stellar pre surgery help and post surgery help. I don't think I would go an hour with a fever without calling the office. And even with that, we have no guarantee of anything, even that we won't get hit by a bus crossing the street. This much I know, I will likely not live another 20 years at my weight. And, I am a chronic diet failure. My Gastro, allergist, dermatologist, neurologist and pcp are positive about my having this surgery. Looking forward to surgery Feb 28.

    Any dryness

I am pre surgery, but have dry mouth. Biotene mouth wash is wonderful.

    Any Jersey Sleevers?

    Great to hear!
  6. I, too, work a desk job, but I've been advised to take off at least two weeks. If I feel great, I can go back early.

    Does Splenda hinder weight loss?

I'm going to try some. Apparently it's been used in china for a long time.

    Does Splenda hinder weight loss?

Has anyone tried the new sweetener, called something like Nutrisse? It's made from monk fruit.
  9. Yup. Me too. It's about all I can think about too!
  10. Good luck! Praying for smooth surgery and recovery! Keep in touch.
  11. Hi everyone! My stats: I am 56 (or a mature 30 ) and am 5'5 and weigh 286. I think that's 47 in bmi land. ( however I have been sick with sinus infection for two weeks and ate way too much and walked way too little) My doc's office is doing all the insurance work. Looking forward to surgery with Dr Andrei in Luvingston, NJ on Feb 28.
