I have kind of started getting into the groove of my pre-op diet. I have a ten day liquid diet. I decided to start now and at least do breakfast as liquid. So today I had a protein shake and a yogurt for breakfast. I think this is a good way to ease into it all. Then I won't have a huge shock going from full food to full liquids in one day! Yikes!

Hello everyone! My name is Shanna. I am almost 36 years old and I live in MA with my husband and almost 2 year old daughter. I have been heavy since college and have never been able to make anything work enough to lose the weight and keep it off. I was a thin healthy child and the "Freshman 15" turned into the "Freshman 40" for me. And steadily over the years, I have gotten bigger and bigger. I have tried many things, and had some good success with Weight Watchers, but it doesn't stay off. My mom had gastric bypass 10 years ago. So last summer I started kicking around the idea of needing to have weight loss surgery myself in order to do it right and keep it off for my lifetime. Just before Christmas my mom and I attended the first Seminar meeting at my surgeon's office, Dr. Adam Glasgow, East Walpole, MA. It was very informative, and the program they have for the patients is amazing! So I quickly made my 1st consultation appointment and it was on January 11th. Dr. Glasgow thinks I am a great candidate for Banding and that I should have no problem getting insurance approval. My psych and nutrition appointments are both next Tuesday, February 5th. Then I have Pre-Op with Dr. Glasgow and at the hospital on February 25th. My surgery is scheduled for March 5th at 7:30 am. I am excited about taking this step and making this lifelong investment in my health. I want to be around to see my beautiful daughter grow up and I want to eventually add another child to our family. I am also a bit scared of the actual surgery and a bit overwhelmed about the sheer volume of life changes that I need to incorporate following the surgery. But I so want this and I am committed to geting healthy and can't wait for it to start.

My pre-op diet is actually 10 day liquid diet. My surgeon does it this way for a few reasons, but one of them is to make sure that we can maintain a liquid diet given that is what is required after surgery. I haven't started it yet, but need to on 2/23. I think in the next week or so, I am going to start doing at least breakfast as a liquid diet, so I can ease myself into it.

I am so glad to hear that everything was fine when he took a look at it today! I was in the office this morning and I was thinking of you. I hope the nausea subsides soon. Definitely a good idea to be seen and checked out, now you have peace of mind.

This is so true! There is no point in going through with getting banded if it isn't a turning point in your life and journey to health! Keep up the good work!

That's so awesome! I was just saying tonight that I hope something like that would happen to me. Good luck with your weight loss!

Psych and Nutrition Appointments on Tuesday
ShannaS posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have both my Psych evaluation and my required pre-op Nutritionist appointment this coming Tuesday, February 5th. I am so happy to have them both done and out of the way on the same day, but a little nervous about the 1, 2 punch. Can any one relate their experience with either or both of their appointment. I filled out a bunch of psychological testing and evaluations before the appointment was scheduled. What should I expect in the appointments? Both the Psychologist and the Nutritionist are affiliated with my surgeon's practice. Thank you for any insight you can offer! -
The transformation is so amazing! You look fabulous! I hope to be where you are 2 years from now! Congratulations! You should be shouting it from the rooftops!

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling so lousy following the surgery. I also have Dr. Adam and my opinion of him is that if you aren't feeling right, that you should call him. He won't view you as a pain. He doesn't want you to suffer in silence. Get some rest and call him if you aren't getting any better.

March 2013 Surgery Dates?
ShannaS replied to ShannaS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sara, you will be great! So glad you are getting so close to your date. I am as well! My mental journey with this started back last August when I starting thinking this was a possibility for. But the physical journey started on 12/17/12 when I went to my surgeon's Lap Band Seminar. I am so thrilled to be on this path. Good luck to you! -
Yikes! I have always thought that the pre-op diet would be the hardest part of the whole thing. I have to start liquid diet on 2/23 for my 3/5 surgery! You can do this though! Good luck and keep your eye on the prize!

That would be great! I will be waiting to here when you get your confirmed date!

This is too funny! My cousin told me I should name mine so that we are talking about it, she doesn't has to say "oh, how's the band doing?" I said you mean, like I should name it Sarah? So between the two of us, that is going to stick and my band will be named Sarah! I thought she was crazy when she said it, but now I see other people name theirs too.

Welcome Christi! Congratulations on starting on this journey. It's a big decision! My insurance is covering my surgery and I will be about 7 weeks from consult to surgery. My first consult with surgeon was on 1/11 and my surgery is scheduled for 3/5. I am having the psych and nutrition appointments this Tuesday. Then I have pre-op with surgeon and hospital on 2/15. I am looking forward to getting through the appointments on Tuesday! I am excited and nervous about the surgery, but I know it is what is best for me!

That's amazing! Congratulations on your surgery and your weight loss so far! I am new here too, but my surgery is scheduled on March 5th. I am looking forward to being where you are now. Good luck on your continued weight loss!

I love your Screen Name, MassPrincess! So nice to meet you! I am so happy to find so many people on here that are so close by. Thank you for the advice and the offer to answer questions. If i come up with any i will be sure to let you know!

i just found this link for you. It talks about the requirements for MassHealth and Bariatric Surgery. If you meet the requirements, they should cover it. Take a look. That way you will know going in if its doable or not. I hope it is! www.mass.gov/eohhs/docs/masshealth/guidelines/mg-bariatricsurgery.rtf ·

Good Luck Sharon! We will both do fabulous!

No, I don't believe they require the seminar in order to start the process there. It would be great if you could get it done here and not have to travel so far! You should definitely call them tomorrow and see if you can schedule a consultation appointment, It's awesome that your insurance covers Dr. Glasgow! I have read nothing but good things about him and had an awesome experience with him and his entire staff so far! It sounds like with your BMI and your WW history, you should qualify. The surgery with Dr. Glasgow would be at Norwood Hospital. His office number is 508-668-4400. Good luck with the call tomorrow, I can't wait to hear how it goes!

I have Harvard Pilgrim and they don't even require a supervised program or anything. I just had to show that I have tried and been successful at losing weight in the last couple of years. That is terrible that it took so long for your friend! My surgeon says if you don't have any of those requirements for supervised dieting, then it should take 6-8 weeks from consult to surgery. And it will be just that for me. I do have a smart phone. I will look for the app. I would call your insurance and see what their requirements are for covering the surgery and see what surgeons they suggest. If they cover Adam Glasgow, I would go with him. He is amazing and the practice and their program is awesome.

Hello everyone! My surgery has been scheduled for March 5th! I am so excited and nervous at the same time. My pre-op diet is a liquid diet that starts 10 days before surgery. I think that will be the toughest part of the whole journey!
