  1. I am so glad you posted this because I think so many of us struggle with the same issues. When I made the decision to get the Band I was so worried about what others thought. Truth is, is doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks; this is your decision you are making for yourself. It is not one any of us take lightly. Those who love and care for you will accept you without pushing their opinions. I was banded in March and have found that my family accepts it much more now that they understand it. A lot of people don't understand WLS and push their fears onto you as their "concerns. " I am almost 3 months out, have lost 56 LBS (60 percent of my excess body weight), and feel better than I have in years! This is the best decision I've ever made for myself and I hope yours is to. Congrats on going through with your decision and good luck!

    Ist fill

Try not to stress... I just had my fourth fill today and I didn't feel much until my third fill. I now have 5cc in a 10cc band. Some people never need a fill; some (like me) need 4 or 5. Good luck!

    second fill on weds!!

Get job on the non- scale victories! Even though your number isn't changing, your body obviously is! If you've been following the plan and exercising as much as you have been then the weight will start falling off again once your body catches up. Good luck on your second fill!

    Banded 3/5...Finally!

Karina, Thank you! I am feeling great now and I'm having the opposite issue. I have no problem getting foods down but I have no appetite. Because I'm in recovery my surgeon said that I have to eat at least the minimum on my post op diet. I get full so fast! Obviously we all know the Band doesn't take away our appetite, it just restricts the food. Some of the reason I may be reacting a little different from you is because I had a major hiatal hernia fixed while he was placing the Band. In order for the opening of my esophagus to stay closed to prevent further hernias, my surgeon chose to set the Band a little different than he usually would. He said I may get some better restriction. I really really am! But don't get frustrated with your hunger.... I'm sure it will subside soon! Besides the hunger, how are YOU feeling? Any pain or do you feel pretty good? -Cozy

    New to Forum

Hi Margaret! I commend you for staying your journey again!!! That is so brave of you and it sounds life you are now ready for it now than you were when you got banded. I would recommend a class caked Success Habits and another called Back on Track. They were both developed for bariatric patients and changed my life! I would recommend them for everyone for long term success. If you want to, feel free to message me your state and I can look up classes and instructors in your area! Good luck! You will do awesome... best part, you already have the Band now you're ready to use it!

    would you do it again?

I too am just over 24 hours out. I had a severe hernia repair and the band at the same time. I expected awful pain; it has been quite the contrary! Minor pain around my incisions but nothing major, I'd compare it to a cat scratch. Some discomfort from gas, but have been walking and moving around whenever im awake. Even at night when I got up to go to the bathroom, I would take a 5 minute walk. Today the gas pain is almost gone and I'm already feeling restriction from the band! Aside from being a bit worn out, I honestly feel better than I did before surgery! Good luck on your journey! Feel free to read my play-by-play in the "Lap- Band Stories" forum. You will see similar anxieties I had just two days ago!
  9. Hello moonlightdreamer and welcome! Let me start by saying that you are not alone. I know that I have had an unhealthy relationship with food for the past decade and actually found that it stemmed from my coping with my moms alcoholism. It didn't affect me until I became a mother. I made a promise to myself that I wouldnt drink or become an alcoholic; I didn't realize that I was actually turning into a foodaholic! Like you, it wasn't until I was confident with my progress in therapy that I decided to move forward with the surgery. In the past my weight has fluctuated between 80-100 lbs each year! Eek! I was banded two days ago and I am excited for this journey! I commend you on seeking this tool for your journey as well. You have made a major decision that will dramatically change your life for the better. Keep us posted! Good luck on your journey! -Cozy:)

    Banded 3/5...Finally!

I'm back home from surgery and feel amazing! I was blessed with an awesome surgeon who I feel very confident with. I had a major hiatal hernia repair with the band; more than 1/3 if my stomach was herniated. I had prepared for some intense pain but it has yet to come. I had some discomfort from gas and a bit of pain from the incisions, but completely manageable. I've been walking A LOT and it feels so much better to get up moving than it does to stay in bed. I am so happy I made this decision. The surgery was so much easier than I had expected. I was also really concerned about what my scares would look like. Even just two days later they are so much smaller than I had expected. My surgeon used internal stitches and external glue as to minimize the scarring. If I could do it all over again than I would! Thank you all for your support... I will keep you posted!
