my life is miserable since the sleeve
Fixerupper replied to luckyqueenbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it can. My doc puts people on gallbladder meds after surgery just to prevent it because it's so common. Mine was taken out with my sleeve because it was really making me sick. I feel so much better now! -
My Rare Complication
Fixerupper replied to blackfalls's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your story. It is a reminder to all of us that we have to stay in tune with our bodies and be our own best advocates. -
Trying to gain some stats please help me out.
Fixerupper replied to AutumnPunkin's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Height - 5' 7" Highest weight (pre lap band) - 268 Sleeve surgery weight - 240 Current weight - 179 Sleeve date - May 15, 2013 (almost 5 months) Goal weight - 140-155 I am 2 pounds from my surgeons goal weight range for me, which is 170-177. He came up with this after doing a body scan which measure body fat and bone mass but it still feels much to high for me so I'm definitely going to keep going. Things are harder now. Either I am honestly hungry a lot or my PPI meds just aren't working well anymore so I feel hungry. -
I'm right there with ya! I had my band for five years and I HAD to eat slider foods to survive. Otherwise, I would have starved to death. Literally honestly - I could not eat real food. My esophagus was so irritated that it simply would not fit down. I talked to my bariatric doc about it and she told me early on that there is a type of brainwashing or conditioning that we have from the band days and that it is really a struggle to overcome it. By the end with my band, my doc told me I had the Vitamin and nutrition profile (from my bloodwork)that they only really see in people from third world countries. That is how malnourished I was but I was till 240 pounds the day I got my sleeve! I was also pre-diabetic from all of that darn junk food. We have to work really hard at this. I often find myself wanting to reach for a slider so I keep them out of reach and dense Protein within reach. I also really have learned to enjoy all of the real foods I missed all of those years! I can't believe the joy I now find in eating a grape, apple, orange, vegetables.... I'm becoming a fruit eater and I never really was before. We don't have to be perfect, but we have to do better. We are conditioned to eat crap but we don't have to anymore! I know we can both do this!

Dry heaves . After getting sleeved
Fixerupper replied to Inactive Profile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. I had them horribly. It was so bad I was convinced I had caused a leak! I didn't. I really think it was one of the meds I was on in the first 24 hours in the hospital. They gave me one of those behind the ear patches and I started feeling soo much better. hang in there. It doesn't last forever. -
I don't remember a lot about comorbidities. But did extensively document knee and back pain. I didn't have any comorbidities.

Had my surgery at Beaumont royal oak four months ago. They were awesome! You're in good hands.

Back to the hospital
Fixerupper replied to Melissa1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really does get better. Just hang on. -
Fellow cooks! How do you do it?
Fixerupper replied to LipstickLady's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I do the same thing! My daughter rolled her eyes at me last night because as soon as I sat down at the table I said "I'm full". I end up just sitting and watching everyone else eat now. -

Coughing up brown stuff sounds like an ER issue. Please go. -
I am so sorry. I have not had a leak but have seen others here who have. It seems to be a really miserable experience but one they have come through. Sending prayers.

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?
Fixerupper replied to mrsplusamericajacksonville's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It must be time for another stall. We are sleeve sisters in terms of surgery weight and date. I'm at 180 and have basically been in a stall for several weeks. Hang in there! -
Low BMI but want revision
Fixerupper replied to Purplrose323's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My revision was deemed medically necessary due to band intolerance. Thry used my pre band weight ftom five years earlier. My weight at the time of sleeve approval wasn't even a factor. -
Probably not much. Are you feeling any better. Greek yogurt has a good amount of protein. You can strain it. You could add Some Protein powder to something too. I was on fat free cream Soups in the beginning and would add protein to it.

my life is miserable since the sleeve
Fixerupper replied to luckyqueenbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could have a stricture. If that's the case it can be opened up and you won't be so miserable. I existed like that for many years with my lap band. You shouldn't have to live that way. Call your doc and I hope you feel better soon. -
The Powerade might help but something with some Protein (like yogurt) might be even better.
-
I felt that way in the early days when I was dehydrated or hadn't had enough to eat. can you get something in your system fast?
-
I have already fallen off the wagon.
Fixerupper replied to Jenni77's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm just 4 months and 3 weeks out and 60 pounds down since surgery. So, I'm not losing super fast but I am happy with my pace. I am not perfect, never have been and never will be. I do try to keep junk out of my house but sometimes other people bring it in. I have found that it helps me to say that no food is a never food. It is just a last food. I have to have my dense protein first, then a little fruit or veggie, and then I can have whatever it was that I wanted. This keeps me from eating a lot of the stuff I would otherwise eat because I am just too full or by then the craving is gone. Don't beat yourself up over small slips just don't let it become a habit. -
Lap bend conversion to sleeve
Fixerupper replied to Carlotta's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have a pre-op diet but I cut out bad carbs, caffeine, and soda for a couple of months before surgery. My band was deflated for several months prior to sleeve and doc put me on Carafate to heal my stomach and esophagus from band irritation. Band removal and sleeve were done same day. I did get my doctor to keep me in the hospital an extra day or two. I was there for three days and went home with a drain. No leaks but it was really comforting to have the extra hospital time and drain since I knew I was higher risk. I absolutely love my sleeve. I eat real healthy food again and I am smaller than I ever was after getting the band. Good luck to you! -
I was given it on day one. Just make sure it is no fat and I'd avoid Chobani. I did have to strain it in the beginning.

Scared Shitless-8 years out banded rapidly gaining weight
Fixerupper replied to LifeLiver's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Banded five years here. Sleeved now for three months. I told my doc that if I never lost a pound with my sleeve it would be worth it if I could just stop throwing up all day every day. I'm down 48 pounds today and loving sleeve life! -
So so happy for you!
