Soft food stage. When you go out to dinner, what do you get?
Fixerupper replied to Crissigus's topic in Food and Nutrition
I am so sorry to hear that! I love Dr. Krause too; he really took great care of me and I was a difficult case. But, I must admit that I have had a major run-in with the scheduler in his office. I think we were both having a bad day and I was in no mood for any snappiness. We got it worked out, but I blew up at her. I found the phones at his office frustrating too. I did find out that generally if I press 0 someone will answer but if I don't it seems like no one is ever there. But, I haven't even called or been back there since surgery. I go through the center and the docs there for everything. If you want to PM your email address or fax number I will send you the list I have in my binder. -
the fat fills in the wrinkles?

I feel like I see that look most often in bypass patients not sleeve. I did notice a new furrow in my brow the other day though. It may be time to start getting some fillers. -

Fixerupper replied to Crissigus's topic in Food and Nutrition
Hey! I just realized we had the same surgeon! Crazy! Did you go through the weight control center at Beaumont? If so, the soft foods list should definitely have been in your binder. If not, it was left out somehow and they should be able to give it to you. I also find the NUTS there very accessible if you have questions. I was just giving the disclaimer because I don't have my list in front of me, my memory isn't all that great, and I was advanced slightly differently through the phases because I am a lap band revision. -

For me, baked or steamed soft fish was a soft food. Also, baked potato ( or mashed) f you have not been instructed to cut carbs. I also loved mashed cauliflower. Hummus was good, applesauce and I think chili was also on the list. I am just going from memory it is probably a good idea to consult whatever lists you have gotten from your doc or NUT. -
Ever normal again?
Fixerupper replied to Samijo4391's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. couldn't tell you exactly when but it happened fairly quickly for me. -
this may start a riot.

My docs are all about moderation and that works for me. But, I'll tell you one thing: For me, eating + drinking too soon after = throwing up. No thanks. Did enough of that with the crapband. -
Yep. Unfortunately since my capacity has decreased my tastes have gotten more expensive. I would rather have a small piece of filet or a couple of scrumptious scallops than a burger and fries.

Wow. I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. Please keep pushing. I was once unemployed for two years (and I was so sick that I could not work even if I wanted to) before I started feeling better and started my own business which then led to a great job. In that two years, I went back to school. I knew the education loan money would be helpful financially and I improved my skills making me more marketable. Try to keep an open mind and think about the possibilities. I don't know about yours, but my mother is extremely competitive with me. She has been all my life and made comments about my weight and body all my life, and I was not even overweight. I know she loves me but her insecurity is something that she cannot help. Could it be that yours is the same way? Even with an eight pound gain you have lost a great amount of weight. I wish you the absolute best.

Trying to find the sweet spot at 5+ months out - Help?
Fixerupper replied to discoveringme's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am also five months out. I have always had a 2-3 pound bounce and then back further down. My capacity has increased a lot! I have been stalled for almost three weeks until 2 days ago. I ate 1200 calories for 2 day and lost three pounds. I have no idea why! I'll take it but it is very confusing sometimes. -
At five months post my capacity had increased. Enjoy and use this time to develop better habits. Make the most of it. Just tell the person you had a breakfast meeting as well so you can't eat much.

Sleeve vs lapband...
Fixerupper replied to Lioness813's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am a revision from band. Less complications and much better weight loss with my sleeve. I have two kids at home age 8 and 10. Surgery on a Thursday. Went to my son's baseball game on Sunday and back to work on Monday. I had a very smooth recovery but of course that will not be everyone's experience. I have a much better quality of life with my sleeve. -
People don't recognize me!
Fixerupper replied to MommyofFive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agreed. You were beautiful then and you are now but you look very different. This happens to me a lot now. I just reintroduce myself to everyone so it won't be awkward for them. -
Yep. Might be an acid problem. It feels like a raging or gnawing hunger.

These were my symptoms when I needed my gallbladder removed. Gallbladder problems are very common after WLS.

You're welcome! You'll be there before you know it!

My program offered it along with other things for a $150.00 lifetime bariatric club membership fee. I'm due for another in a month at my six month check-up (not sure if I have to pay again). I am a big advocate of them. I found it extremely helpful to have a goal weight range based on my body, bone density, and body composition. With my DXA I ended up with a goal weight range of 170-177. So technically, I am one pound from my doctor's goal weight. I still feel that I can lose quite a bit more so I am not going to stop. But, my weight loss has slowed considerably and this helps me to understand why. At this point I see every pound I lose as a bonus and don't view myself as a failure because I am not in line with standard BMI charts. I'm in Michigan.

Maybe I could just tape a chocolate bar to each hand and one around my mouth. But then I really would need to explain my related runs to the bathroom! -
Smooth Recovery? Anyone?
Fixerupper replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very easy. Surgery Thursday and back to work on Monday. No problems. Doc advanced me to soft foods early. -

Okay. So I wanted to take another look at this and make sure my PMS wasn't getting the best of me. Evidently it is. Amanda Rae, I don't really think we are disagreeing or arguing about anything. I agree with almost everything you said. As Laura ven said, there have been a number of these threads running the last few days and the shame issue keeps coming up. That is all I was responding to and not your post in particular. As I look at this thread again, based upon what the OP said, the people in her workplace seem deserving of whatever sarcasm or icy glare she chooses to give them. They sound like a bunch of aholes. -

LOL. I'm one and married to one too! You cannot imagine the maneuvering involved in regular family business! -
Hang in there. The stall will break. I'm in another one too. Grrr.

What did you tell people?!?!?
Fixerupper replied to LeahJade's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw a quote in my daughter's school this weekend: "The kindest word in all the world is the unkind word, unsaid". That being said, I am tired too, PMSing, and in another damned three week stall so I may be slightly iritable. Honesty and kindness are not always mutually exclusive; they just don't always fit together neatly. I totally agree with you Laura (as I often do). To each their own. And certainly, anyone trying to profit by lying or omission is just plain wrong. I have no desire to argue with anyone - just to inform people that may not intend to be offensive that it is. If the intent is to offend or people don't care - they should feel free to offend away. If the intent is not to offend or they do care - perhaps they may want to rethink the language used. I have no idea why this thing is underlining everything I say but I can't make it stop!!! -
What did you tell people?!?!?
Fixerupper replied to LeahJade's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No. I'm not missing your point. I get what you're saying; I just don't agree with it. I generally try to assume the best about people and see the best in people. So, I don't think that anyone here is trying to be offensive. I just think that people don't realize it is offensive. I also do not assume that people who ask me about my weight loss are motivated by something negative - cattiness, jealousy, etc. I assume that they are simply asking because they are curious. Therefore, I see no reason to respond to them in a "none of your business" manner that may be seen as curt, unnecessary, or unkind - even if it is true. The three (truth, necessity, and kindness) are often conflict and in that moment I choose to be kind. I offer a simple explanation that puts an end to the conversation without hurting anyone's feelings. I have not given power to anyone. Answering a person in the manner that you suggest would be giving up my power because it would allow them to illicit a response from me that is neither something that I am comfortable with or true to my values as a person. You are entitled to respond in a way that is in line with your personality and values but others should be free to do the same without all of the criticism of who they are as a person.
