Where the May sleevers i just got my date!
Fixerupper replied to Luvlvnlyfe5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope surgery went well and you are having a smooth recovery. -
My doc has said no pre-op diet. I'm doing a modified one anyway. If you didn't have to do all iquids for two weeks before did you have to do any type of bowel cleanse? I think I am on clear liquids only for 24 hours prior to surgery.

Someone suggested an eye mask and earplugs so we might actually get some rest in the noisy hospital. I will be there three days so I bought some -
Am I A Success or Failure?
Fixerupper replied to NotANewbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been where you are. I was banded and due to problems unable to eat almost anything, that is until I discovered that a couple of glasses of wine relaxed things and allowed me to eat. That turned into a bottle or more every night. I grew up in a single parent household with a functional alcoholic. I love my mom but feel we missed out on so much because even though she was physically present she often didn't remember anything. I got a wake up call about six months ago when my eight year old daughter asked me if I thought I was drinking more lately. We were at Disney world and she should have been happy but there she was in my old shoes too worried about her mom. I didn't believe I could stop drinking but I did that day. It was so hard at first. I allowed no alcohol in my house and I had to tell my friends the same. It is much easier now but there are still triggers that I must deal with. I wish you the best of luck. It is not easy but you can stop. You are not alone in this struggle. -
I'm still pre op. Married 11 years. I was 5'7" and 140 when I got married. By year three I was 240 and by year five 270. My husband is pretty neglectful and rarely affectionate. He once tried to blame it on my weight until I reminded him that I spent most of our honeymoon alone IN A BIKINI! I realized then that he had a problem totally unrelated to me. I left him this summer and lost thirty pounds in three months. He begged, I came back and so did the weight. I go back and forth between being angry with him and feeling sorry for him that he is unable to emotionally connect with anyone, its not just me. I'm trying to make it work for kids but somewhere in the back of my mind I know I will probably have to leave for my own health.

Low BMI but want revision
Fixerupper replied to Purplrose323's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have bcbs of Michigan and.they are covering based on the BMI I had when I got my band. Mine is due to band intolerance but I now have a hernia, gastritis, and esophogitis from the constant vomiting. Those conditions will worsen if hhe band is left in place and can have some pretty scary consequences. -
Am I doomed? (Please say no!)
Fixerupper replied to Kellylynn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kelly, the OP on this thread had her surgery today. She is no longer pre op. I hope she will check in here when she can and that we all will try to give her the emotional support that she will need in these first post op weeks. -
That is wonderful news. Can you shre anything about what you are doing? You are having amazing success.

Am I doomed? (Please say no!)
Fixerupper replied to Kellylynn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have almost the exact same pr-op weight amd no pre-op diet reccomended. Now, I stopped drinking alcohol several months ago and generally try to watch carb intake. I also gave up soda and caffeine in March and haven't missed it. I trust my surgeons advice. I am doing some pre op restriction in order to try to make his job easier but definitely not a pre op diet. I was scheduled for surgery initially in March and I cancelled the day before surgery. I had not purchased my protein, soups, vitamins, nothing. I wasn't ready mentally but I know that I am now. I've started trying to get used to the protein and started eating yogurt which will be a staple afterwards. I also bought my vitamins and some things I will need for the hospital. That all helped to make it more real for me. Counseling never hurt anybody. But, only you know yourself and only you can decide if you are ready. Everything else is just the opinion of people who have struggled with the same issues that you (and I ) have and have done no better with them (or they would not be on this forum in the first place). It sounds to me like you feel you are ready and are just having a hard time right now. Sounds to me like you also have the pre-surgery jitters that almost everyone gets. I know there is a balance that people are trying to strike between giving you some hard truth which is post- surgery we must follow the doc ordered diet or we can cause a leak or other serious problems! (I am not saying that everyone that gets a leak causes it) and trying to be supportive. Think about talking to the nurse or coordinator in your surgeons office - it will probably give you some peace of mind. You could even pose it as a hypothetical "say a person my size had great difficulty following the pre op diet and only followed it about 50-75% of the time. Does that make the surgery too risky? Should that person cancel?" I bet it would give you some peace of mind. -

Old Story, Preop Gal
Fixerupper replied to palomarules's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Think it has to do with being revision and "lower" BMI. I've asked my doc twice and he has said no pre op diet necessary. I put myself on one anyway because I'm just paranoid . -

In exactly the same boat as you. My surgeon said pre op diet was not necessary and I am same weight as you. I am really trying to do one though just to make his job easier. But, so far I have really been out of control. -
Prayers for a complication free surgery and quick recovery.

How far out are you? I'm still pre revision. But right after I got my lap band I felt that way. So many of our social interactions ate designed around food!

You know with addiction now it is understood that relapse is part of recovery not the end of recovery. We are all on a lifelong journey. View this as a short relapse not a failure. You can choose to veer back on to the path to success. You've already done it once.

I'm gonna be a band to sleeve revision in may but I too have lost and regained. I understand the binge eating. I find it helpful when im on a binge to get back into a program requiring weekly meetings and weigh ins. Accountability is key for me. I'm sorry you are struggling.

Wavering back and forth which surgery choose the sleeve, about 3 weeks pre-op
Fixerupper replied to ccrim03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey. I'm a band to bypass revision scheduled for May 16! The band has been terrible for me and caused problems that could turn into cancer if not removed. I managed to lose forty pounds in five years throwing up multiple times a day.
