Hi, I was banded on May 6th and my weight loss has really slowed down also. I have lost 29lbs now. I find if I really drink all of my water I can eat less. I strugle with emotional hunger more than physical hunger. I am going to try to stop eating around 8 each night and see if that will help. Are you drinking at least 64oz of water a day? ...Best of luck ... Keep us posted on your progress...Janie

Hi Janis. I think it is normal to be a little nervous. I really was scared. I wish I had found this board before my surgery. I was banded on 5-6-04 and have lost 29lbs. My first goal is to be under 200lbs. Just 19lbs to go. This board is great and has really helped me a lot. Best wishes...Janie

HI marie, I TOO AM VERY SORRY. Tomorrow will be a better day.You have two really great things going for you . (1) You are very young. I am 53. Iwould loved to get controll of my eating at that early age. (2) You are going to be loosing weight which is allways wonderful. And also the great people on this board. I think Church grooups are a great place to meet friends and a future husband. Hang in there... janie -
Darcy, I love your picture too. The first few weeks were terrible but my friends on this board said it would get better in a few weeks and it did. The 2nd week I almost asked the nurse how soon It would be before I could get the band taken out.It is still hard ( I was banded on 5-6-04 ) but I have lost 29lbs and that part is great. I still struggle with depression over it but it gets better daily. I think it will take time to completely get over the mourning of the death of the free bad eater that I was. But I have high hopes. Hang in there...Janie

I don't think I can do this anymore
Janie Jackson replied to SeattleCindy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Cindy. I am another sweet lover. I have found that I get by eating Dole sugar free popcicles when ever I want. And I have a skinny cow ice cream sandwich every day. I eat it really slow and savor it. The depression is something I deal with daily. I am allways asking my self WHY OH WHY DID I DO THIS? I have nothing to be really depressed about. I have 3 new grandbabies a good husband and a great family and Church. But ever since my surgery all my friends and family ask me what is the matter? They all say I am so quiet and I am on a anti depressant.Effexor. The thing that really helps is this board and my friends on here. I was telling my friend that I did not know why I was so depressed and she said you are in mourning for the old you that you knew so well. The old you that could eat all day long and eat very unhealthy things. Its like a death. That made sence to me. So now I am just giving it time so I can get to know the new me. And my new life style, my new way to eat. It is especially hard when others around you are eating so much. I guess I have a harder time with quantity. I too read about all these people who lost 100lbs in a year and hoped that would be me. But the weight is coming off pretty slowly now. but I am learning that thats o.k. You have gotten some great advice, just hang in there and read this board often... Good luck Janie -

Alex I can guzzle, But I try not too. I usually take 3 sips then wait a few minutes and take another 3 sips or really swollows. The nurse at my Doctors mandatory meeting told us that water was able to strech our pouches. Anyway I dont know a lot. but that is my 2 cents worth. And I am back. Thanks Janie

HI everyone. I need help from you all. Last night I went to my Doctors mandatory support group meeting. There were about 20 people who had RNY and only one other person who had lap band surgery. We are all treated the same and I think we are diffrent. I was mixed up about how much we can have at a meal from day one. I have been having 4 oz. or a little more and seem to be doing fine. I get a slightly full sensation and stop eating and feel satisfied. And I have lost 27 pounds now in less than 7 weeks. Thanks to this board.Reading about giving yourself a higher calorie day to jump start your metabolism, I have done that and got off my plateau and lost 4 more pounds. I have never pbing and I am so happy now that I can eat salads and popcorn. When I have popcorn I eat a whole snack size package but found out last night that I would need to measure it in a 3 oz. bowl. I found out that I am supposed to be eating only 3oz. at every meal. Thats so small. Is that the amount of food every one else is eating? Also the Doctors nurse told me that if I over load my pouch I could get an extended esophagus near the bottom of it. HAS ANYONE HEARD OF THIS? I thaught I was doing so good. But now I am so scared that I am eating to much. I talked to the other woman who had lapband last night after the meeting and she is doing the same as me eating more than 3 ounces. I dont want to mess up my esophagus or anything but I think that it would be difficult to go to 3 oz. when I have never been on that small of amount . HELP please tell me what you all eat. Thanks so much...Janie

Thanks so much for talking to me. I can allways count on you two. I know of one Doctors lapband patients that have a support group meeting once a month, but I dont know if they will let me attend since I am not that Doctors patient. How would I find out about another group. My Doctor does mostly RNY plus he is in Dallas over 1 hour away. Thanks again. Do yall know about how many ounces you eat at one meal? Thanks Janie

Hi Sultana. I am pretty new to all of this myself. I am curious why you dont think you have been succesful ? I am concerned about streching my esophagus after a support meeting I went to last night. I never have had any productive burping. I have been banded for only 7 weeks. But it seems to me that pouch streching might be a slow process as pbing would be more a quick response. Juat my thoughts,,,Sorry I am not so much help. Best wishes...Janie

I fell very satisfied with what I eat and it is so so so so much less than I used to eat. In fact it seems like I am not eating much at all and I do get a full feeling. but do you think what i am eating sounds o.k. Also since I have lost some weight in my face I am getting more wrinkles.I am 53 years old, I started out weighing 248 lbs I am 5 feet 5 inches tall. Maybe I need more wrinkles because of my age? Thanks to both of you for responding to me ...Janie

Hi, when did you have your surgery? I had mine on MAY 6TH. Mothers day was a few days later and I was recouperating at my moms, when they made this mothers day feast. It was very hard. I think I was probably more mentally hungry, but it was pretty miserable. Mqre than once I said to my self WHAT HAVE YOU DONE ? Now it is better but I have stopped loosing weight. My daughter just made brownies and I just had a taste and I am satisified, before I would have eaten 5 or more of them. I do think drinking all my water and eating Dole sugar free popcicles helps me be not so hungry. Best of luck to you!
