I found my place!!!!!!!!!! I always feel so lost on this board! But its awesome to see you all getting banded the same month as me! My band date is Sept 22! Im so freakin excited! My name is Lisa...Im 29 and weigh 315! You all have to do the two week liquid diet before surgery? Oh and IM from Indiana!

I found out a few days ago I got approved! The six months really does fly by. Now just waiting on office to call and set up what I need to do.

Health4you......where did you get banded in Ohio? Im awaiting approval from my insurance now. I hope to be banded by Dr. Trace Curry!:mad2:

You dont really have to lose weight on this supervised diet do you? I havent. My doctors and dietician says its just insurances way of putting it off and to see if you can come in to your monthly appt.

I have 2more months left of my supervised diet. It actually flew by. But Ive also had alot goin on in my life as well. Before you know it ..your time will be up!

Nice to see a Hoosier thread! I grew up in Martinsville ...then live in Batesville now for the past 7 years. Im seeing Trace Curry in Cincy for my surgery. I have 2 more months of my supervised diet left before insurance approval!!!! Woohoo!

I weigh 307 now and wear a size 26. I weighed 220 and wore an 18. Id love to be a 14-16 or wear under 200. Im not askin to weigh 125-135....but at least under 200! lol I havent been banded yet. Im still doin the supervised diet and have 4mths to go.

Hey Hey! My name is Lisa... I am goin to be 29 in May. I weigh 315-320lbs...just depends. I weighed 215 when I got married 7 years ago and since them I ate the skinny me. LOL! Seroiusly though.....I felt good at 215. So Ive met with my surgeon...Dr. Curry out of Cincy. This Wednesday I have my second supervised diet consultation and my pysch. evaulation. Then I have 4 more months to go before submitting to insurance. Nice to meet you all!

I just had my first visit with my doc. I have to do five more months of supervised diet and then wait approval. If all goes well my surgery date would be late September early October. He then said to wait 18-24 mths. There is NO way Im waiting that long. Wonder why he suggests that?

I have Medical Mutual and have to have the 6mth supervised diet. I have my appt with Dr. Currys office this upcoming Wednesday. Im goin to call their office tomorrow and see if I bring in documentation..like receipts from Weight WAtchers, My diet logs, receipts from my workout place, receipts where I bought Richard Simmons etc. If they sent that in IF IF IF IF they would knock some time off the 6mth. Not sure if they will but its worth a shot. Of course Dr. Currys office might just say Medical Mutual wont have it ...and I have to do the full 6mth process. So I'll let you know more after Wednesday what they say. When I went to my meeting the insurance girl at Currys office told me she deals Medical Mutual alot and that the BMI requirement is 40. My husbands Union Hall told me it was 45. SO...who knows...I'll find out more this week.

Hey girlys! Congrats on your little ones or your soon to be little ones. Im in my 6mth nutrition counseling before I get the band. How soon after you had the band did you get preggers? Did your port stick out alot or hurt while being preggers?

Went to Dr. Currys (cincy) office today for the free seminar. I was scared that goin to it would make me not want to get it done..but its made me want it more. Him and his office folks were so nice. Right now Im debating whether or not to go the insurance route or the self pay route. Difference being having to do the 6mth supervised diet and then getting the approval. Just scares me to do that six months and not get approved. If I self pay....then its 230 a month and not sure how Id squeeze that in....Id for sure have to work a day or two more. So dh and I are tryign to decide what route to go. I say for any of you that are considering the band to go to a FREE seminar.....it answers alot of questions! I was the last one to leave. IT was so cool talking to people in persn that have had it done!

Im goin to go ahead and call Monday to set up my appt. Thats a $400 office fee that day which is nonrefundable. Not sure if insurance will make me do the whole 6mths or not. THanks.. Im even more confused now. lol Ive been reading more on Dr. C's site and they talk about insurance acceptance alot. Then I found a spot about how they dont accept any insurance. WTF???????? lol Guess Im goin to have to make calls tomorrow. Then they said something about a $400 fee up front. The other doc Im considering is $150. Decisions!

Oh ok. Well I think IM goin to go ahead and get signed up for a seminar for Dr. C and then one for the other place I have in mind. Guess I'll call insurance tomorrow to make sure Dr. C or the other is in network. I called my family doc and told them I needed all my records and the referral letter as well. So hopefully they will have that done in a couple of days. Then I can make my appointment with the doc I decide to go to. I hope it all goes smoothly! Thanks again for replying!

So you are saying that Currys does accept insurance....but it works that you have to pay up front first and then insurance gives it back to you? I really want to call tomorrow and set up my seminar and an appointment afterwards if I can. Im so confused! lol Thanks Elisa for helping!

Thanks for the reply Jazzy! I called insurance and they require a BMI of 45 or higher. Which my BMI is 46.5. Also a medical condition. They stated...high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. I asked if PCOS and high cholesterol counted. She said just to submit the form and the medical board reviews it. Our insurance pays up to 25,000 if accepted. I also had wondered if in the letter they doc could put how my mom has that liver disease that is hereditary and his advice of losing weight with Lapband for both of her children. So if I get accepted...I would have to do the 6mth nutritional counseling. Which I have a question about that. You do that to get hte lap band ...but if you lose while doin that...can insurance change their mind and be like.."uh you lost weight...we deny you now"? Does Curry take insurance patients? Does any of you know who had to self pay what a monthly payment runs? Thanks in advanced!

Hey all! Im new...actually not...been researching this for a year now. But have finally decided to get this done! Im still trying to decide on a doc...have it narrowed down to two in the Cincy area. We have Medical Mutual insurance through Local 392. I hope to make my decision on who I want to do my band if insurance approves. Still would like to know what it would be if they deny and what payments would be. My bmi is 46.5..so my family doc says. I dont have any real problems which insurance named off....they said....diabetes, hypertension etc. But my family doc said he could put in there that I have PCOS...Ive gained 100lbs in 7 years. My family has a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apena. I know Im bound to get it. Then recently mom was diagnoised with Alpha 1 Antitripysin and has to have a transplant. Her doc told her that if her children were obese that we have a VERY HIGH chance of getting the same thing and we need to get control of our weight. SO this kicked me into high gear and made me realize this is hte thing to do for me. Needless to say it was the 'icing on the cake'. LOL! So I went to my doc and he said he would write me a letter. So Im goin to call Monday and tell them I need all my records for when I finally decide on a doc so I can take it with me. Im just nervous that insurance will deny me since I have no real problems I guess...and IM hoping if they do deny....it would be reasonable payments so I can still get it done. lol I know...Im so long winded... So .....whats this about some docs in Cincy not even accepting insurance? That might make my decison for me!

Hey Hey Everyone! I came to this site a year ago and looked around. Then I stopped thinkin about getting banded. In that time found out my mom has to have a liver transplant due to a gene she carries which causes Alpha 1 Antitripsyn. :tt1: She met with her transplant doc last week and he told her if her children were obsese that we were likely to bring it out in us. :wub: He then recommended the LapBand for her to lose weight. So she calls me and wants me to research it for her...so here I am again.. Although this time....Im READY to get banded myself. :thumbup:Im still reading all the threads and getting as much info. Im calling insurance again next week. But if I remember right...they said...I had to have two co-morbidities, six months of supervized diet and a bmi higher than 39...I think it was 39. Anyways...last time I got as far as asking my doc if I had two co morbidities and we wondered in my PCOS counted. Soooo anyways I know Im long winded. LOL!:tt2: Ok...alittle about me.. I have two daugheters...Lucy and Emma. I am 28. I weigh 310. My hihgest being 320. :thumbup: I have PCOS and its really screwed with me. Im on the Met to keep stuff kinda under control. We are trying to have a 3rd baby and actually seen a RE..but I havent started now...so I feel like its Gods way of saying to wait...so we shall see on that front. Im wondering with my insurance if I got preggers now IF it would still count twoards insurance with the 6 mth diet plan...I need to find that out. Ok...whew Im annoying myself.. When you get the lapband..how long after can you get pregnant?
