Is this how the band feels?
leeshabeesh replied to Blondie638's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going through the same thing too. I'm about 3 weeks out. I am hungry all the time and I am eating more then a cup of food and I feel like I can eat more but stop myself. I had a gill Monday. I felt a difference the first day but now I'm hungry again. When I went in for my fill they told me I probably wouldn't be able to tell a difference until I've had 4 fills. I have had done stuck episodes but that's due to big bites and not chewing good enough. -
Fort Worth is only 4 hours away right? how's everything going for you? I get my first fill tomorrow. I have to be there at 745am! So early. I hope everything goes well.

January 2013 Bandsters!
leeshabeesh replied to Mimi1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Shawn for your reply. I feel like I'm the only one struggling sometimes. I haven't had soda in a month. My dr. said absolutely no soda because it can make your pouch expand. And I also have no fluid in my band. They leave it empty after surgery until my first fill which is Monday. But I too am not able up eat nearly half of what I use to. They told me to only eat a half a cup of food at one time and I usually try to stick with that but sometimes it doesn't satisfy me. I haven't taken pain mess in 48 hours and that could be why I'm feeling different pains in my abdomen. I meant to call my dr office today but the pain didn't really bother me till after 5. Go figure -
I had bad gas pain. Had my surgery jan 23 and its been 2 weeks and I think I'm still having gas pain. My back hurts and my lower abdomen. It's not that painful now, maybe a 3 out of 10 but the day after surgery it was a 10! I got gas x chewables and they worked ok and the strips that dissolve on your tongue, those didn't help as much. Milk of magnesia helped some too. Walking didn't really help me. I don't remember how much gas x cost. Like $5 I think but I got it from Walmart

January 2013 Bandsters!
leeshabeesh replied to Mimi1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How are all you January bands gets holdin up? I was banded jan 23rd. I've lost 14lbs total. Problems I'm having are 1. pain in my back and stomach still. Maybe from gas still? It's been 2 weeks. 2. A bruised pain on the right side of my belly button. It hurts most of the time and when I push on that area, it's worse, like a bruise. My port is on the other side. So not sure what that is. 3. I'm having a hard time following "the rules". Portion size, bad foods, my post op diet, protein intake and water intake. I am trying small bites and then take bigger ones. I get my first full Monday. Any advice, warnings or similarities? Anyone else having problems? -
Cool let me know what you find out!

I'm not sure Tara. I think the study was just done on liquid Protein. In a study of 19-35 yr old men with a bmi of 20-22 they absorbed 15g of protein in one sitting. Everyone is different but that's something to compare it to.
-
I feel the same way Jenny. I've only been banded a week but have high hopes. I'm confident I will want to show off my thin naked body often I've only got about 90 lbs to go!! Ha ha
-
Your body can only absorb so much protein at one sitting do drinking a large amount at once doesn't help you out that much. Much to my dismay, I've been doing a little research on the subject. It takes protein in liquid form, like a shake, an hour and a half to pass through your digestive tract. And your body will absorb about 15g an hour. Everything not absorbed is excreted. Hope that helps!

I'll be there but I'll be late. Wearing black and a khaki sweater jacket

I've had the same problem getting in my protein in a day since I'm not eating that much. I found protein shots at Walmart. There is 2 different ones at my Walmart. One shot has 25g and the other brand has 42g of protein! 0g fat 0g sugar and 180 calories. I like those. Not much to drink and they taste pretty good!

I'm coming too!

I got cut off :-) anyway, I ate them fine. And it doesn't hurt. I know I shouldn't have. I just hope it doesn't cause any problems. It didn't hurt or get stuck though so should it? I drank some hot cocoa earlier slowly but too much I think because that hurt bad inside and I felt nauseous

I'm in the same boat. I was banded the 23rd too and the last 3 days I've been hungry. My dr instructed 48hours clear liquid then 1 week full liquids. I have till Friday to suffer through this. But I can have yogurt, Soups blenderized, thin and runny grits and cream of wheat. They said as long as its thin enough to suck up a straw or fall off your spoon. I've been having a hard time with it though. 3 weeks of this sucks. Yesterday, I ate 2 tater tots and a bite of a grilled cheese sandwich but spit it all out. Tonight I ate 2 chicken nuggets about 20 min ago and feel fine. I chewed it up to applesauce consistency and swallowed it. I

I'm 5 days post op and I know I'm hungry. I eat and feel better. I am SICK of liquids. I have ate some soup. My dr said its ok as long as if there's chunks in it, they are blenderized. Is that a word? :-) my post op appt isn't until Friday but I'm ready to eat real food again. How are you handling it?

Does anyone know if there is a way to add friends on fitness pal using your iPhone? It's only giving me the option to add from Facebook, email or phone contacts

Week 6: When will I start loosing weight?
leeshabeesh replied to Cloud_dance's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know how it's going to turn out for me, I'm only 4 days post op, but I had to meet with the nutritionist for 6 months before my insurance would pay for it, so I got to talk about good choices a lot. What she really pushed was getting in your protein everyday. For me it's 40-60g for the rest if my life! And taking a chewable multi vitamin and calcium, and making your plate the right way; I.e. half protein ( lean meats and fish) the size of a deck of cards and then 1/4 veggies and 1/4 complex carbs. Eat meat first and after you have finished your plate and if you're still hungry, have more vegetables. There are many slider foods that won't keep you satisfied longer like soup, crackers, deli meat, and others I'd have to look back over the paper she gave me but you get the idea. Hope that helps and if you have any questions, I'll ask my nutritionist for you if you won't be seeing one Good luck! -
The dreaded BM talk
leeshabeesh replied to cole&matt'smom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drink a tablespoon if milk of magnesia. It really helped me. My dr recommended a tbsp everyday till you have a bm or diarrhea. Im 4 days post op. My gas pain is getting better but I have that "needing to burp" feeling too. My back hurts and in stuff in my neck. I feel like I need a chiropractor. But the MOM did make the gas pain better. Hope it helps you -
I need some encouragement and motivation too! Add me giddiup222 and I'll add y'all! Can you see what people ate on there or how much they weigh?

3 Days post op in PAIN!
leeshabeesh replied to Mimi1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad your feeling better! I'm 3 days post op too. The things that have helped me were 1 tablespoon milk of magnesia, heat pad on my back or shoulder ( wherever the pain was the worst from gas) , a pillow fitted around and kind of under my belly when sleeping on my side, and a hot shower. Just standing there letting the hot hot water hit my back helped with the soreness and pain. Oh and I hot the gas x strips and chewables but found the chewables to work better. But the MOM made me release a lot if gas I think. And all that was per dr. reccomendations -
The dreaded BM talk
leeshabeesh replied to cole&matt'smom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctors advice was take 1 tablespoon of milk of magnesia until you have a bowel movement or diarrhea. I took a tablespoon of it my second day post op and had diarrhea later that day. And today is just my 3rd day post op and I haven't taken any m.o.m. And I haven't had a bm today. So, there ya go!
