1 year, 1 month after surgery and pregnant! Advice!?
whitneytij replied to smellslikecoffee's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I found out I was pregnant in Nov. 2013, after being banded Feb. 2013, so I was only 8 months post-op. I notified my surgeon immediately, and they told me I should be fine unless I was having a lot of morning sickness, then I would possibly need a partial unfill. During my first OB appointment, when I told her I was banded, she immediately recommended that I get 1/2 fluid removed, which I did (it was about 3ccs removed). I had lost 85 lbs in the 8 months before I became pregnant, and now I'm 14 weeks along and have gained 15 lbs even though I am sick ALL THE TIME. I am not upset in the least about gaining weight. I feel as though I look funny, because I still have a lot of loose, flabby skin on my stomach, and I am bummed that it will probably hide my baby bump. But I know my baby's in there, somersaulting around like the best of them! I am hoping to have a natural birth, but I read a lot of pregnant women who have had WLS end up having c-sections, but I hope that's mostly people who have had the more invasive surgeries like gastric bypass. I wish you the best with your pregnancy! -

I actually just weighed at my in-laws' house (because I have yet to invest in a scale at home lol) and if it's correct, I have lost 12 lbs in one week. If the broths and Popsicles is all I can have, I would just rather not eat. I have had 1 protein drink today, at about 2 pm, and that's the extent of what I have had today.

How did you make it through stage 1?
whitneytij replied to kileybug34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having this same problem. I am one week out today and I want something I can eat! My doctor's Stage 1 diet is broth, jello, pudding and Popsicles. Along with 3 protein shakes a day. I have HAD IT with these things. I can't have creamy soups, soups with noodles, mushy veggies or anything of the sort for another week. -
What was everyone's post-op diet? I am one week out and I am supposed to be on liquids, broth, Jello, pudding, and Protein shakes for one more week before I can move on to mushy/soft foods. I haven't really been eating anything at all, because I don't WANT broth or pudding or Popsicles anymore. I feel hungry, and know that it isn't just "head-hunger" because I am drinking my 6-8 glasses of Water a day, as instructed. I feel like I need something more.

Banded yesterday, heating pad ok?
whitneytij posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I was banded yesterday, now I'm going through the motions ("HOLY HELL WHAT DID I GET MYSELF INTO?!"). Either my gas pains haven't started yet, or they passed without much complication. My biggest problem is the deep muscle pain. This pain is ridiculous. My pain meds are helping, but only slightly. It's extremely hard to sleep, because I am a tummy sleeper and I just can't get comfortable on my back. Did any of you use a heating pad? I'm just not sure if it is better to use heat or ice. -

@GETNBAND I'm having my surgery on the 28th also... BAND BUDDIES! Thanks everyone for your input and well wishes.

The doctor gave me some suggestions for the shakes, but also told me that I could choose whatever kind I wanted as long as it was high in protein, low in carbs and sugars. The powder I bought is called Precision Engineered Whey Protein Isolate. It has 25g of protein, less than 1g of sugar and carbs. We'll see how it works out! Thanks everyone for your input.

Not doing well on pre-op :(
whitneytij replied to kvr1977's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op diet consists of replacing one to two meals a day with protein shakes. My doctor hasn't said anything about clear liquids or anything. -
My surgeon has not instructed me to go on a liquid diet before my surgery (in 18 days- eek!), but has instead advised me to start supplementing protein shakes for one or two meals starting two weeks before the operation. Has anyone else experienced this? I was under the impression that I would be put on a strictly liquid diet, but that isn't the case. Anyone?
